For textbooks you should check out libgen.io for illegal PDFs from a Russian site. I probably shouldn't be telling you about it but textbooks are really expensive so if it's going to help your learning to find a free copy online then I think you should know about it. Hiring books from your university library is also a good alternative.
It really really sucks. I'm 17...a guy...and a large proportion of you viewers watching probably have an aptitude in maths or physics...sadly for me, I am not one of those people. I have always found mathematics and physics to be very difficult. I could memorise a whole list of equations and formulas and then during an exam I read the questions and I cannot understand them at all. Getting that all familiar head ache as it slowly burns and starts to hurt. Heading onwards to university soon hopefully. The applications of these two subjects in life have always been VERY interesting to me but it pains me to know that I know my limit. Even though I enjoy the subject and see how interesting it is. I've never been good at it. I remember years of crying and tearing up when I am alone, dreading for my exams for these subjects in my school. The fear was real :") To all my brothers and sisters who are planning or who are already undergoing a degree in university and pursuing these subjects in life, I salute you guys. Use this knowledge to help expand our explanations of nature and this universe for the next generation. I really respect! Y'all cool
Marky Zuccy Don’t worry bro I’m the same, I study Business at university but have an interest in physics and maths. Although I used to know little about physics, reading books and watching videos has helped me greatly. :)
Damn!! .. that looks like my shitty Indian education system :0) .. where are you from?? :0) ... I stopped giving shit about grades and just enjoyed the subjects in college(and I know where that attitude takes you in India)... Today I dont do anything remotely related to physics and maths, but I still enjoy learning and finding those little things which I missed. Its just "THE PLEASURE OF FINDING THINGS OUT" :0)
study everyday at least 1 hour or something , you dont need to push yourself too hard but if you dont study everyday you will have troubles specially at tests
The emission of spontaneous radiation of positive energy through the soul of this girl always makes me feel curious about the subject and makes me feel good about myself. More power to you girl .
In particular, courses in the first year or two of university in the American/Canadian system consists of great halls with hundreds of students. It doesn't matter so much where you do that. Considering how expensive US schools can be, staying at home for a year and attending a less expensive State school is an option to consider. Especially when you consider many students change their interests when they get exposed to new topics ... or realize how tough their original area actually is. After a successful frosh year, you can go on to a 'better' school, and get the attention of experienced profs.
Thank you very much tibees and John Baez too . From last 3-4 months ,I was looking for the right guidance to lead me to the right path to learn both physics and mathematics . This is precisely the right video I was hoping for
Taking both HL Math and Physics next year (IB System, not sure if you’re familiar with it) but this and the other video helped a lot for ideas on resources!!
I would like to recommend an author for your bibliography, Lewis H.Ryder. His books on General Relativity and Quantum Field Theory are extraordinary if you try to learn by yourself these hard topics. Really excellent. Thanks for keeping us motivated on learning Tibees!
Good to hear from someone who is successfully involved in Science and Maths. Someone who has developed their faculties through the higher education system.
I love your channel, I'm quite weak mathematically even though I'm studying Engineering. But your videos been absolutely lovely, keep up the good work.
Thank you for helping people to understand complex subjects. Many teachers do not really understand what they are teaching and that makes them untrustworthy for learning accurate information They do more harm than good.
Thank you very much. It was very useful for me, it was a dude that I was asking for how to tackle it, and in your video I saw the answer. Your channel is amazing.
I agree with you wholeheartedly about not having to go to a prestgious school, especially for undergraduate degree. At least here in the US it's not only crazy expensive, but truthfully there are VERY intelligent instructors at schools all across the country. No matter where you attend, you can learn a lot.
Tibbee is absolutely awesome if only the world 🌍 was full of such teachers, we could all be genius Einstein's . This generation can do amazing things, go get em 🐅.
Hi, dear Toby! You touched a very important subject - staying into science. I guess we straggle with such thoughts sometimes due to really hard process of studying but primarily cause we want to apply our knowledge by creating something tangible and not only abstract. In a comment down below you say you wish to study more ai and as you mention before you're really into CS studies. So how to decide between smth more practical and fundamental? Though I know that you can't have the 1st one without the 2nd and our degree isn't a limit. But anyway how do you decide for yourself andcan you pls give your advise on that?
@@pepaxxxsvinka3379 Because the field of AI is already moving so quickly, everyday you got a new github repo to check out, a new paper published about a new use case of that algorithm normally used for something totally different. Since huge companies make the field move so fast, keeping up means making sacrifices..
Hi Tibees, I´m curious about your opinion on the Walter Lewin courses. I am watching them (currently course 8.02 electricity and magnetism) as just a way of reinforcing my study of "Physics for scientists and engineers" extended 5th edition of Tipler and Mosca. Love your channel Tibees!
I'm a foreigner where I study physics, I have no friends, I'm almost going to finish my undegraduate and it has been so difficult to do the things on my own, all by myself without anyone to be able to discuss problems and have others point of view. At the beggining it was so sad and was difficult to manage, but with the time somewhat I have been able to do it by watching a lot of video lectures so I have another way of approaching the problems other than my professors. Your videos are nice :)
I'm in a similar "predicament" as you. All throughout my econ undergrad I had my friends and classmates with me. But I've recently figured out that I've been depressed partly due to my major which I had very little interest in. I've just started my mathematics major this fall and I was psyched but I know no one and I just don't seem to click with the ppl in the program(which is quite small) and I don't see it happening in the future due to a number of good reasons. I thought that I'm sufficiently good at coping with things by myself but honestly working/studying with a friend or two would be so awesome and the time would feel less frustrating but the prospect of no friends is affecting me more than I thought. Can you elaborate more on how you managed in your undergrad program and what were some of the reasons which made it difficult to have friends?
You could talk about science. Meet other people in science and interview them. Like how Lex Fridman started interviewing people. Tibbees your communication is excellent, and very approachable. So you would help spread the word about science even more.
i have to go and check out deriving the golden ratio. i could not quite remember though it started by dividing a straight measure into two unequal lengths and then calculating the ratio of one part to the total length.
Just quick comment...since Feynman's "Lectures on Physics" are actually transcribed from lectures, I find them easier to follow by actually listening to them (Six Easy Pieces). On RU-vid there are also his lectures on the Character of Physical Law. Also a book, but easier to follow by watching lectures (and after that, I find reading the book easier, actually).
i’m currently in grade 11, taking AP physics. even my exams are AP styled, which makes this subject REALLY difficult to deal with. i’m not sure if i actually love physics as i once thought after seeing all of this difficulty, and whether i should major in it once i’m in uni. any advice?
m // if you enjoy it, do it anyway. The subject matter, the way of thinking, all of that is what is most important. Those early classes are meant to wash people out, once you get through the grunt work of training you to think like a scientist, the upper level courses, for most math and science fields, allow more expression. You get into the greatest subject matter once you get deeper into the field, and those introductory courses are far from the real product. This is especially true for chemistry. I absolutely hated General chemistry classes that I took in high school and first year college. Fast forward two years and finally there’s a light at the end of the tunnel when you’re ready to roam free (almost) and that’s the beauty of research.
Hi, really helpful video! I have a question: i am a high school student at my 4th of 5 years (in italy) and i want to study Physics at Uni, but all the physics theachers i had in the past 3 years and the one i have this year were pretty useless and we as a class are really arretrate in physics. i want to know if i need to study again from scratch the whole physics high school program in order to survive in uni (and if this is the case, what textbooks would you suggest) or if i can just have good maths and start physics at uni from a low level. thanks!
Its very good advice for young up coming physics. And if you guys are confused about any concepts, look me up and I will create animated video to explain that stuff.
Quahntasy - Animating Universe Took one look at your channel and subbed immediately, it’s exactly what I need. Why do you hide your sub count tho? Weirdly bugs me haha
hi Tibees, these were precious advices that help me to get understand where & how to handle that , thanks . one thing hv been very confusing for me yet ,, i'm undergrad student of physics but i love to learn philosophy as well ,, little conflicting rumors i hv also heard b/w these two disiplines ,, please guide me if i can pursue physics with philosophy & how ,, also to choose a carrier of pure scientist or a field named as philosophy of science or Physics ,, thanks .
I hope you still do the video regarding to what he said about applying to a prestigious school for physics major. Just wish to hear your thoughts on that matter
Hey , would you be able to have a look at the open university mathematics and physics degree ? is it worth doing in , I mean it I know it is to some extent, I used to love mathematics and physics when I was younger , then I lost my interest for a while when I moved country , now I wanna study again, and wonder more about the universe..
look for symmetries in your everyday life... keep your childhood memories alive... when you ride cycle first time u required a support from a person because u don't know how to deny gravity with rotation of wheel... some point u learned that... remember the joy... remember the 1st day when u controlled the cycle against gravity... Try to teach Yourself and get the joy of teaching yourself... U will fall 99 times out of hundred but the 1 success u might get could give u the joy of lifetime... take advise from ppl but don't get obsessed with their thought... your thought is unique and this uniqueness would surely put a carbon footprint in your field... Before arguing with others brk your own argument again and again and one day u will find and unbreakable argument is pushing your head just like a bottle fly larva... Bring that argument in front of public... Doing so many thing.... no... one have only 1 life to live... so just enjoy the life....😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I like both of these topics but I very easily forget things that is causing problems in my way of becoming theoretical physicist can u suggest something
I find it difficult to really grasp the more complex algebra Maths and some of the physics like (eV to wave length), I want to train my intellect to really understand the equation. 6/3=2 that's simple, but I want to understand, things like change in volume with the Ideal gas law, can anyone help me?
Understanding mathematics is vital thus please read Morris Kline’s books , mathematics and the physical world , calculus an intuitive and a physical approach, Mathematics and the loss of certainty, why Jonny can’t add. You and Jonny will then enjoy maths and physics and know what’s it all about.
There is also a physics FAQ website Dr. John baez hosts which contains two sections called 'a physics booklist' and 'a guide to relativity books' math.ucr.edu/home/baez/physics/Administrivia/booklist.html math.ucr.edu/home/baez/physics/Administrivia/rel_booklist.html
Hello mam... I am thinking of starting a physics based youtube channel where I explain ideas in physics in a more easy but yet point to point way... Any advices since you seem to be doing so very well!
You've mentioned in one of your previous videos that group theory was one of your interests whilst doing your undergrad, so would you please recommend some self-contained textbooks that cover abstract algebra from an introductory level to an advanced level.
I think John Baez has some group theory books on his page for learning math, i personally didnt use a textbook for group theory because my lecturer gave me comprehensive course notes of his own.
Hi Tibees I really appreciate your videos I'm very grateful that I found your channel, i'm starting my physics undergrad and your videos have helped me out a lot. Do you have any advice on how to stay positive throughout your studies? I tend to get discouraged when i don't excel or when others seem to be doing better than me (I'm a perfectionist). So how do you stay positive and focused during moments like this? How do you make sure to fully learn the material when taking so many difficult classes at once and having so little time? Any extra advice on things you can do to ensure getting straight A's ? Lastly, how do you keep yourself from getting distracted by your social life? :) Thanks.
hey Tibees, can you please suggest some good unis ! I am a 17-year-old science student from India. I want to be an astronomer and I don't have any guidance for it.
Hlo. Plx make a video on From whre we should start and what are the basic needs for Studying Quantum physics .Also what are the basic things(i mean topics )we should know how and (plx mention the topics also) What should we know ist for understanding quantum physics I am an undergraduate student (ist semester)and what math we should know... For Studying Quantum physics .. Plx ......i see many videos on RU-vid but no one is giving a clear way how we should start and from whre we should start...plx .
