As to your other points, I work in emergency medicine. We still get stab wounds, along with blunt injuries, so people are still using hand weapons instead of firearms. You'd be surprised, but I would also point out that the Armed Forces all over the planet train their troops in hand-to-hand fighting for a reason. Ranged weapons are great, until your magazine runs dry when your opponent is too close to allow you to reload. In that situation, the fight goes to the guy with the better hand-to-hand skills.

So how does you going to jail with the person whom attacked you or made you feel unsafe enough to baton their ass, equal practicality? In fact the only place I know of that these are allowed to be carried is america , and even then some states ban them being carried with out justification. Again ...I think someone just threw together a video that folks would find cool , helping the creator to get paid for ad views. No practicality was used in the making of any of the above video man....that came from hunger to get paid.

@@engmed4400 also, in the military , hand to hand combat is a last resort and only used in extreme situations..no body goes over the top anymore and the most common scenario for hand to hand is breach a Known insurgent domicile, safe house and or compound. I also know from personal experience that the most common environment for hand to hand is from obstructed means of egress or other forms of cover. None of what is taught in this video makes any practical sense I. A street fight and would get someone killed in a real combat scenario. On a side note..perhaps get away from the Hollywood soldiers and check out some real soldier. The 22nd were exceptional at hand to hand combat and prefered it to loud guns and grenades. When they returned in 44 and were absorbed into the British army as the 22nd regiment ,they were the pinnacle of H2H. However, resorting to covert control techniques is limited to very special circumstances. The way the soldiers eliminate enemies in movies by sneaking up behind them, in three feet of foliage and dropping a k-bar into their super sternal notch is a sad farce at best. In real life combat scenarios , the probability of sneaking up on an sentry , whom is being not being thoroughly distracted by something else, is very low, and they are going to hear someone approaching their position and take a defensive posture..training is one thing, but common sense in war is everything if you want to live long enough to survive the nightmares after. Hollywood and RU-vid creators make no money from common sense only from advertisement contracts! the people don't care about reality, they want the endorphin high of blood soaked green backs and violent silliness that sees a soldier use a trash can lid to defend against an area denial device or use a cars cockpit as a hard cover point.durring a fire fight, first if you must use a car as cover, the only place you stand a chance is to keep the engine block between you and the one that has you pinned......but just as I am wasting my time saying this, folks are not interested in someone's mental penny opinion on their realism of their content, they only care about the revenue they create by getting folks to watch stuff that relates to their environment today. While it is true that collapsible batons are prohibited in some areas, I'm thankful to note that I don't live in such an area. They are entirely legal in my state. Bear in mind that FMA, of which this video is an example, is a martial art that's centuries old, much like Karate, Kung Fu, etc. As such, it has techniques that include various types of weapons, and even empty hand techniques. From what I understand, there are parts of the Philippine Islands where such an art is still put to its original purpose. A good source on that would be Doug Mercaida (not sure on spelling). Just about any martial art can and will be useful when applied correctly. Not all criminals walking American streets are carrying guns, popular opinions notwithstanding. As I noted before, I've seen my share of stab wounds because people simply don't know how to act, and use whatever they hand to hand. I'll finish with this thought. Having been violently assaulted in the past, I'd rather have as many tools at my disposal as possible. The US Army's hand-to-hand system, known as "Combatives", is based in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. As a system, I like it, but I'm always branching out. I like the look of FMA, to say nothing of its simplicity. As I have been known to carry defensive weapons from time to time, it never hurts to learn new techniques.
