The first step is to look for any floorboards in the room that have been lifted before, these floorboards will be easy to spot as they will have gaps between the wooden floorboards. If you find one near where you will be working, you have had a result! lift this board so you can check for any pipes and cables near where you will be working.
Using a multi tool or circular saw cut down the gap between the floorboards taking care to only cut the tongue off the floorboard and not the actual floorboard itself!
To lift the floorboard start at one end and gently lift the floorboard up using a thin crowbar, chisel and claw hammer. If possible, remove the nails as you go and it makes the job easier.
Once you have finished in the floor space you can refit the floorboard. Although this is a straightforward process, I would recommend pilot drilling the floorboard and joist and countersinking the floorboard. This will help recess the screws into the floorboard without applying to much pressure and splitting the board.
Before refitting the carpet or flooring I would recommend walking over the floorboard to check for creaking and squeaking, this can be fixed by tightening the fixings.
