I'm a produccer and give to you thank you for talk very good about productions desing, prodcutions is very important and the most principal goals for you proyects.
Great content as always. I know this is for music video but how you priotise your lighting setup for every shot. The first shot you simulate the sun from the actor's right shoulder, and the second shot is from his left. Both shots are great as an individual but when you put together as a continuous shot from the same scene, the sun orientation suddenly looking wrong. Of course this doesn't really matter in music video.
Hey Tom, great tuorial video, thanks a lot for putting this up. One question I got is how did you pull focus for this video specially for the tracking shots you did? did you have a focus puller or did you do it by yourself?
Detailed review. Nicely managed such a small space. I'd like to purchase my first set of LED lights. Here in India, Came-TV fresnels cost much and I've decided to purchase Godox SL LED lights. Though those are not fresnel lights but the bowens mount let me put 3rd party fresnel fixtures like aputure. Can you please advise what lights from Godox (out of SL150, SL60) and how many of them shall be good for a mid sized room with two to three actors in frame?
Hey Tom, good to see a new video. we met in tampa late last year. Was going to ask you if you had any experience with the cob120 from aputure as far as how that and the larger boltzen compare in terms of output? Thanks man
Animus Visual Aputure 120d is great. I did a review of it on my website. I did not compare the two in terms of output so can't say which one is stronger
can you use that small came tv light at main key light or is not have that power to compare that big one

can you compare the came-tv 100 watt led to a 1000watt tungsten? That would be so helpful because the efficiency of led is something strange... I was at a ARRI lightworkshop and they showed us calculations that led are only around 4-5 times as efficient ... so a 100watt led would have the lightoutput of a 400-500watt tungsten according to them but i don't know and i sont have both ... i only have 60watt leds and 1000 watts tungsten lights
Hi Tom, are you still using the Boltzens? I have two 55w's and am thinking of getting a 100w and a 150w to add to the kit. I'm wondering if they are still good to buy in 2019. Thanks!
Nice to see you still using the moza. I got one after watching many reviews including yours. I didn’t get the remote, do you find yourself using it much?
A really great tutorial that provides insight into the production/lighting process. I know you meant no offense, but your constant use of the word "poor" like some incidental characteristic or texture is absolutely cringeworthy. My gosh. I assume it's just a language thing, as you guys don't come across like jerks. But yikes!
By your statement I assume you don't know what color data is and how it can be manipulated. Perhaps you should watch some of the blind tests online where people compare Sony to Canon and Panasonic etc and choose which colors they prefer. You'd be surprised if the results. In the end color data is just that. It's what happens when thst data is transferred to a visable RGB image that matters either using image profiles or by grading it. Perhaps you are talking about the fact that you like other companies image profiles straight out of the camera. In that case you can actually install 3rd party profiles that make Canon C200 look like any Sony camera or make any Sony camera look like any Canon camera. You still shouldn't be using any of those profiles for final output if you want best results. That's why all pros shoot raw or log without any profiles applied.
I'm watching this for maybe the tenth time thinking about how all these rich kids are running around with their RED cameras making crap. They'd have been better off learning a few things from Tom Antos about real film-making, and stuck with what they may have already had.
Another amazing practical tutorial, thank you so much. It would be very useful to also get the aperture and iso setting of some of the different shots. Thank you :)
I don't think, that he means it as an insult. It doesn't look like an apartment in a Manhattan skyscraper. More humble, which some would describe as poor.
It's amazing to see the setup and you think nah that's not gonna look good but then you cut to the camera shot and its beautiful. Great work thanks for sharing the process. Lighting is key above all else, great vid!
Hi Tom. Hi should want to know your opinion about lighting in action film, such Roge One or similar. My question is: The light is always White and they grading in post production only? Many thanks
Hello Renato. I am not sure what you mean by the "light is always white." All color grading takes place in post production, unless your applying a LUT for a monitor which can be argued is technically "grading" the image being received from the outbound signal on the camera. When lighting a scene, the team is focused on a few key aspects such as exposure, color, and story. The exposure can be broken down into a basic function, which is how much light there is for the scene. Color is a bit more complicated as you want your bulb and lamp choices, along with your diffusion and gels, to blend well with the production design and to match the story being told. Comedies are more high key and generally have more vibrant colors all around and dramas are more low key and tend to have no vibrant colors or a select number of colors (such as red) that give extra meaning to the story. Lighting in an action film can be done in a number of different ways for each scene depending on what the story is calling for at that time. The hero is happy, then the lighting is warm and soft. The hero just lost a battle and the lighting is cold and harsh.
Hi Tom. Looks great! One question. Why add crop bars to make it look cinematic instead of actually making a 21:9 timeline? Now I get black bars all around the screen on the monitor i'm looking at :)
great stuff to see how you solve those challenges - i have yet to get some decent strong lighting ive been scraping by with a couple of Aputure H198 but im torn between getting larger panel LEDs such as Aputure 672 or what attracts me more is the idea of a kit of 2 or 3 Boltzen 30W - are both light types worth having?
awesome work . here in India its really s**ks , in Punjabi music industry most of Music artist come with a small budget but want to have video done on Red Camera , they don't understand expensive camera can't improve cinematography , emotions and story . your result turn out really awesome with mirrorless camera .
Awesome tutorial as always! I have an a6300 as well and have been having a hard time finding an on camera monitor like you have.. which one are you using? The built in screen is virtually useless for composing a decent shot.
