Great video! Loved how you provided a comprehensive lesson on home lighting, with clear examples. I'd be interested in a video about choosing artwork and decor, and distributing it throughout the spaces in a harmonious manner in a way that adds, rather than detracts, from the whole look.
Thanks to this video I was finally able to fix the lighting temperature in our home. Incorporating warm white lightings in our room indeed made it more cozy. Keep on doing more videos like this :)
A mistake I've made is not using the same brand lighting. Color temperatures are not the same from different brands even if it says they are the same on the packaging.
@@reynardlowell yes. But what then about led lights, whereas there is different tones from the kitchen - to living room tv, or tv stand… open space?? There’s tons of rooms with different shades of light.. so That’s the part I’m not really clear on…
Thank you so much for this informative video! This will really be helpful when I’m looking for light bulbs that produce a warm glow rather than the harsh glare that the “daylight’ ones produce. Fantastic video!
Hi Reynard. Thanks for the informative video. Could you make a video that treats multifunctional spaces. Homeoffice in the living room type of situation?
Love how this video is straight gets straight to it and loaded with information! Im moving from a studio to a much larger apartment that I plan to be in for the foreseeable future. Going to need a lot of tips to make it more livable. You got a new subscriber 😄👍
I love philips hue, the only lights I use. Sometimes even the option with color as indirect light. For hallway and bathroom I use neutral light, around 4000k
Thank you! I rolled my eyes when you were explaining colour temps but boy did I get schooled by the end of the video. Didn't skip once, subbed too - thanks for taking the time to make this
Love this video so much!! It is such a struggle for me to do lighting designs, as I do not have a false ceiling to play with. But with this video, really learned a lot more! Thanks so much!!!
Great video and great explanation of every aspect of interior lighting :D Maybe next step could be choosing the right color palette or furniture overall following different styles (industrial, mid century, scandinavian, japanese, ect)
That was great, comprehensive and conceptual, yet also full of practical tips. Excellent, can't believe it's only your second video of this type. And I am hard to please!
I subscribed because I enjoyed your very thoughtful and easily followed video. I have also watched the one about art in spaces as well as rug sizes for you space. You did a great job and your voice is very easy to listen to. Good job. I am more of a traditional decorator. I noticed that most of your pictures go toward the modern, minimalistic style of design. Perhaps you can do a video of more traditional/vintage style homes. I can't be the only one that loves these old things.
The colour temperature of your bulbs has a very huge effect on what your paint colour looks like. Never put warm coloured light bulbs with blue walls. I loved my pale blue but needed to go to your condemned Daylight bulbs to get the correct lighting on the walls. Those Daylight bulbs are in my bedroom (also not what you recommend) and reinforce the pale blue walls and actually give the room a very restful, peaceful feel.
I loved this video and always stress to my friends how important lighting is in their space haha. Your content is always so informative and relaxing to watch! I also really love that dome table lamp in the “Use Dimmers” section! Where is it from?
Hi Reynard If you ever get the time .. a topic that find mostly elusive, a coverage on the types of ceiling lights (if you're renovating)? May be a little on the same lines on the ceilings and things you can do to it in a cost effective and functional manner. What may work well here for a warmer climates and may be functional and cohesive with the air conditioning. Here, you may have to factor in the fact that ceiling fans would always be a given here!!
this is so great video! Thanks man for educating us about this knowledge I'm new on interior designer, i don't have any degree on this. Do you have suggestion on how do I can learn to be more skillful like you?
Hello Reynard, I am so glad you are making these videos. Just now, I realized that I do not feel good in our rented apartment, and I am trying to make it cozier while making good decisions. What I am struggling with is the styling and also the fact that my working space is in our bedroom and my partner's working space is in our living room. I am trying to make it somehow functional, and your videos are truly helpful. I would like to ask about the lightning in these situations. Our bedroom is rectangular where we have a balcony on the shorter side, a bed in the middle next to the long side of the wall, and my working desk next to the balcony. I have a bit issue with placing it as I am a photographer and I have on the opposite side of the bed near the balcony, the paper backdrop for my photoshooting. It seems to me still does not fit quite well together and I am struggling with placing it so it all is functional and cozy. I would really appreciate any tips :) Thank you, have a wonderful day
Thank you for this! We just bought our first house and Im here to elevate the look of it coz its an old but renovated house. I hope you can also share some house interior with a gray paint color and gray couch and bed. ☺️
Thank you so much for explaining it so well! I'm slowly learning how to design my first home to be more cohesive and understanding interior design and you really put it in a simplistic but detailed way to understand! Great job :D
Hello from USA Your videos are very informative and pleasing to the eye. Your voice too is very relaxing and brings a calmness. Gives a very peaceful feeling. We are trying to change our flooring . And are confused. Is 24x24 porcelain tiles better or what is now trending in the market LVP better. Price wise utility wise , cleanliness and maintenance etc also will additional center carpets be needed which will distort the overall look and view of the room? Too many questions. Since you do a lot of research on the topic you present in the video if you can give us your expert opinion on flooring we will really appreciate it.
you said don't mix two temp so even though kitchen should be cooler than living ( open floor concept) you said use something between warm and soft white for consistent temp. But for which living space? What number would that mean? What should you light living/dining and what should you light the kitchen with?
Loved this video and learned a lot!! Thank you! Would love to hear educational style vid on deciding what/how much to put on walls (in living room or bedroom) :)
Excellent video to baseline how do envision lighting your spaces. Leaving this up on the iMac for my wife to watch while she has coffee this morning (c:=
So one thing I'm wondering about, if you're matching your light temperatures, do you also match your overhead, ambient and task lighting temperatures all to each other?
Can you look into timber, timber accents, timber to warm a room. Different types, different applications. I’m seeing a lot of designer homes with window frames and doors etc. in timber. My dilemma - we bought a 1980’s house with original timber window frames, skirting, single and double pocket doors. I was set to paint everything white. I’m not too sure now and there’s no going back.
Do you have any recommendation for lighting that does not need an outlet? I would like a small light for my entry way table but have to outlet in the area. Thanks!
Sir what can you suggest me for a relaxing lighting for my BarberStudio💇🏻♂️ I think of mixing Warm White and Cool White/Daylight do you think it’s a good idea?
Really liked this video as im currently designing and building my house and I've been dealing with the challenge of doing the lighting correctly. Out here in Florida I only find "soft white" but it's 2700k and "daylight" at 5000k in LED bulbs. I have many recessed lights all around the house and the concept is VERY open with a sizeable double height area with the loft overlooking the living room and dining area, How can I do with the lighting to make something that looks good but without having to invest in costly lights that change colors? Building costs have gone up considerably and my budget for the house has gotten much tighter than I was anticipating initially.
Another "rule" is higher CRI (colour rendering index) is better than more brightness. Unless you are going for a specific colour with RGB LED strips. I'll take a 2 watt light with a 100 CRI over a 20 watt light with an 80 CRI everytime.
Thank you for this video. It is not easy to find suitable lamps that are decorative, practical and simple at the same time. What do you think about electric fireplaces? I would like to buy one for my living room. It will be a decorative source of warm light.
Congrats, Reynard! Your videos are the best. I love them! I rented an office room in a coworking, but it's just 6,5m2 and have no windows. I am trying to decorate and use different light sources to make it more comfortable. There's just on over head cool light and I was thinking about buying a task lamp, but my question is: it could be warm color or it would contrast a lot with the over head cool light? Or maybe I could add a neutral color for this lamp? Can you help me with this issue. Thank you
I know you said you shouldn't mix color temperature lighting in a single room. I do prefer my overhead lights to be at 3500k while my ambient lighting to be between 2800-3000k since I tend to use the ambient lighting more at night when we are winding down.
More about not mixing them at the same time, i.e. two overhead lights at the same room with different temperature will look jarring. In your case it serves different purposes - my lamps and overhead also has different temperatures.
@@reynardlowell thank you for your response and your wonderful video. I’m new to your channel and have been enjoying your content. One I wish I came across sooner before starting my renovations. I look forward to learning more about interior design from you.
