I would go with either the 4-1 or the 8-1, leaning towards the 8-1. This model is gorgeous with flawless skin so I think revealing more details brought in by the slightly enhanced shadows adds drama and boldness.

@@SalCincotta1 It’s tough. But it’s not that some techniques shouldn’t be used but that for things like pricing tiers, time ,budget we have to be honest with people. Time and place just be honest. For one fs is overused. Dodge and burn can be overdone. Color Presets does not equal high end or luxury unless it’s complimentary or mono color. I look back to the film days and see that many were learning the dark room as well as shooting. While editing and retouching are different beasts only the best will master both or team up with someone to bring the best to clients without misleading as high quality editing/retouching.

I enjoy your videos Sal, thank you. I'd like to ask where do you point your light meter when taking a reading. Is it towards the light source (strobe) or the camera lens? And why? I'm always reading different opinions on this. Thanks.
@SalCincotta1
@SalCincotta1 Год назад
great question and one sure to get many people talking. for me - i point it at the light - i want to know the light thats hitting the subject. now to that point... the light hitting them isnt necesarrily the light reflecting back to the camera - skin color, reflective surfaces, makeup etc all have an impact. so for me - i take that meter reading and use it as a starting point... i find that i will typically have to adjust a 1/4 stop one way or another to get truly dialed in. What is light ratio when you shoot outdoor with Speedlight or other single flash? a standard ratio like 1:2 or just exposure for the sky mostly?
@SalCincotta1
@SalCincotta1 9 месяцев назад
its impossible to answer - because you would have to know the power of the ambient light. is it sunny out? is youre subject in the light, or in the shadows? etc etc. this is why i measure the light w a meter. hth.

Loved 8:1 - question, if I have 3 groups, a main key, a fill and 2 rim (same power) in an 8:1, are the fill and rim lights at 3 stops below or is it more gradual? I.e, fill 3 stops below, rim 4 stops below?
@SalCincotta1

great question... i think for me it depends on the look and feel you are going for. so if you wanted something more contrasty. you would have them at all at the same power vs the key light. but ultimately its about your preferences... dont get stuck in the math of it all. understand the rules and then break them! :)
