That definitely shines a light on things! I keep thinking about needing some more lights, but luckily right now my talking head area is lit up enough (during the day anyways) that I can survive until other purchases are made. Great stuff Matti! Thanks! Cheers!
@chosenideahandle
@chosenideahandle 6 лет назад
Even a reflector opposite a window light makes an amazing difference as a fill. Lots of stuff you can do before spending a ton on lights! I have to shoot at night for the talking heads. I wish I had the sun!
@Canadiansasquatchbrewery
@Canadiansasquatchbrewery 6 лет назад
Yeah, I have enough light as long as I do it during the day. And I can make something up if needed for night videos. But actual lights definitely would make things easier. But not necessary still. (=

Even the cheap lights now let you control multiply lights wirelessly, change temps, everything. If it was for just remote features, now you have no reason for them to be your favourite lol.

Love the aputure lights. I've got the 120d with lightdome and the 198c. Gotta get the MX to have in the camera bag as well! Lighting can be very intimidating but the more you play and learn, the better your videos become and you can actually enjoy lighting your scene... when you have the right equipment!

Aputure lights are not a solution I'd recommend to someone unless they're spending a lot of time in a studio, or have loads of money burning a hole in their pocket. I know a lot of people who watch Matti are actually in the developing world. Maybe he'll look at more budget friendly stuff that's less discouraging for them as well. Caleb Pike on the channel DSLR Video Shooter is a real lighting pro, and he has some amazing budget solutions that will give you results completely undiscernible from spending a fortune.

A lot of the time all you need is a good reflector to get a natural looking fill. I've been the reflector guy on a lot of shoots. My own reflector has a mount so I can put it on my tripod (I don't like bringing light stands with me, and the reflector is like a bloody sail that makes light stands useless without weights).

I've been looking at lighting used on Australian TV where presenters address the camera. I found none using this lighting. It seems the main light is straight above, 45-60°. I was watching on a phone with a screen protector, I couldn't read it in the eyes, but there were facial shadows.
