When I was young my father dies and left my mom with 8 kids at home and we lived only on his SS ck. 100,00 a month. We ran out of food a lot. We ate potato peelings and used butter and mustard on bread. It’s suppose to taste like cheese. My brother loved ketchup sandwich. Cinnamon spice and margarine if we had any. Mom always stretched the meat with added oats. Potted meat for lunch EVERY day. We all survived. I am so thankful for my food.

I remember telling a friend of mine that we had $100k cash in the bank and our rent was only $450 because we chose to live in the "hood" to save money to buy a house. She not only laughed, but also called other people to question how much "my peers" paid for rent. She was convinced that either I must live in a dilapidated building (she lives in a different state and has no idea how cheap the cost of living is where I live) or I was lying about my income and savings, or both. Her logic was nobody with that kind of money would choose to live in the hood because you work hard to get OUT of the hood. Which is true, but that's why we wanted to buy a house lol. My logic was why would I waste money on something I will never own if I have a choice to pay less. She even told other people I was living in a fantasy world. By the time we bought our house and paid off all our debts, she and I were no longer friends. So she didn't get to witness the proof of that "fantasy life" she accused me of🤷🏾‍♀️

I’m using Dave Ramsey Avalanche process. I’m working on my credit cards with the highest APR. I don’t touch my cards anymore. I’ve paid off 3 and I have 4 to go. I laughed today when I got a letter in the mail telling me card has expired. I put a freeze on my cards and put them up.I’ve not seen my cards in almost a year. Best decision I’ve made. I’m slowly making changes. I drove to the grocery store went in the store and walked back out and went home. I had a meal at home I didn’t need anything else. I know it sounds corny but I was pretty proud of myself.

My dodge ram truck is 16 years old, runs like the day I bought it, do my own maintenance. I have no debt, I buy cheap roasts at Costco or cash and carry and run it through a meat grinder to make my own amazing roast burger. I do the 2 eggs and a piece of dave's seed bread for breakfast. Buy the rotisserie chicken at Costco, cut it up into 5 meals. I make chicken salad from ONE of the breasts, eat that for a week. Save the carcass for soup. Buy a spiral cut ham, cook it on the Traeger and then cut out the bone for soup (eat that for 5 days) and 4 or 5 tupperwares of ham. Buy a vacuum sealer folks, makes ANYTHING you buy last 10 times longer! I cook ALL of my own meals and I am a gourmet cook. The magic word here: spices, spices, spices. Stop eating out. I buy very little boxed or processed foods. Canned goods last way past the expiration date. I have eaten 5-7 year old canned goods with NO issues. I have 2 refers with freezers that are packed with food that has been vacuum-sealed and will last 4-6 years. Buy bulk and then split it up for multiple meals. It is all very easy to do if you are frugal. I make my own blended fraps (1 or 2 a week max) for $1.50 instead of $7. I taught my kids to make an envelope with a picture of the item they want and the amount they need, and put some extra cash in it from time to time and voila you can pay cash!!! I do NOT ever carry cash, because if you do you will spend it. I pay ALL of my bills with a credit card (cash back) and pay it off at the end of the month. I have a 3 HUGE gardens and grow a ton of stuff. Had 200 onions last year and more potatoes. Onions will last 4 - 6 months. Very satisfying to go dig an onion or potato out of the sack that you grew.

Good video! I’m on a six month money diet! Not spending anything, not even groceries 👍🏽 I’ve been prepping for years so tons of food that I can learn to prepare like our ancestors 😝 I get free rent and only pay electric. My charge card is almost at zero and I’m paying down a personal loan I took out to buy my RV. I’ve always shopped at the thrift store and most of my survival gear was bought for pennies on the dollar there. So I’m staying out of the thrift store, not buying groceries and slamming down my debt. In six months I am going to buy some property and live off grid in about a year. Sacrifice now will reap rewards in the future 👍🏽

You can train your stomach to eat less. It takes patience for about two weeks, you stomach will shrink and you will be very satisfied on a reasonable small amount of food. The first week will drive you a bit nuts because your body is used to binge eating. Second week, your body will stabilise. Key is to eat at specific hours, eat three small meals a day and eat very slowly savouring every little morsel.

@@cheapyweepy5651 You asked if folks respected my friend’s thrifty lifestyle. Some folks who don’t really know him think my friend’s (his name is Paul) is a bit odd. Most folks that know him, even a bit, respect the fact that he lived on a small portion of his pay and saved the rest with the goal of retiring early. Paul had a viable plan and stuck with it. He is intelligent, creative, and works very hard (for himself doing what he wants). He takes care of himself and lives a frugal but, full life. Such a useful video! A few years back we made the change to pick our 5 favorite meals and repeat them every week - Monday - pasta, Tuesday - tacos (of course!), Wednesday - breakfast, Thursday - stuffed peppers or meatloaf, Friday - frozen pizza. I crockpot either a whole chicken or chicken breast for pulled chicken for lunches/salads throughout the week, and fill in with eggs for breakfast or egg salad for lunch. Then if a whole chicken, make broth with that for a soup sometime likely on the weekend. We've caught some flack/judgement about "don't we get bored", "so much ground beef", etc. etc. But in actuality, these are based on our favorites, the items we're most comfortable cooking and allows us to buy in bulk. We don't care! We love it. No long decisions about what's for dinner. Now we do add in a wildcard here and there on the weekend for longer cooking items like soups, stews, roast, lasagna, etc. but overall, this is our routine! Occasionally we'll change things up seasonally, for example, we add in a shrimp salad with fresh tomatoes in the summer, but other than that, this is us, and we're not looking back.

We opened zero interest credit cards and moved our limited debt around until we paid the cards off. We’ve never carried a balance since. We intentionally stayed put in NM because it has free college tuition for the kids (paid with lottery funds). Even though they lived on campus, none of our 3 daughters graduated college with debt. They worked part time and got scholarships while working in their advance degrees. My husband and I both worked most of our adult lives with one employer (government contractors), paid off our mortgage

Thank you for sharing. As an experiment, I stopped using soap, shampoo, deodorant and lotion 2 months ago and nobody noticed. What an eye opening experience! I used to think I had sensitive skin. It turns out that slathering my body extracted chemicals from who knows where made my skin sensitive. I am on a mission to resist corporate influence. Like you said. Humans have existed on this planet for thousands of years before corporations started telling us we aren't good enough.

I love your home and it's yours. I can't believe that people are so cruel. I think that we're so much alike, we've been out of debt for years. I can't think of anything that I would want enough to go in debt for. My husband worked himself to death to get everything paid off.

Watching this from New Zealand, Happen to agree with you on most things, eg by the cheapest house, buy the cheapest car. I can't hope to have no mortgage in this environment, but I did get the worst house on the best street, and that has been worth a fair bit of value increase to me. Anyway just want to tell you I like the way you talk, I like the way you think, I love your dog, and I'm enjoying your videos. go you.

Or people keep complaining that they don't have money, while they are wasting money on too much food, then they are overweight, so they waste money on the gym, and then they don't even go to the gym, complaining that they are demotivated as they have no money. If they have more money, their life would be way better. My ex tripled his already good wage. Now he is still wasting money on too much food (now also on useless rubbish for his momentary entertainment), still overweight, still paying gym, still doesn't go there, but this time complaining that he has not enough money :).

I don't think that people can't understand. They simply aren't willing to do what it takes. I think they especially aren't willing to live modestly.
@ic7804

@@PoetiqueMs I don't think modesty is needed. If people are not ignorant to values and ignorant to the damage they make by wasting, they would buy only what they really use and they would be very grateful for what they have. So I still would buy strawberry even I don't need them, would enjoy them fresh and if I don't use them all before they go off, I freeze them or cook them, to use them later. For me they are luxury not necessity, so I don't need to be modest, I can enjoy luxury of strawberries and be grateful that they are in my life :).

Thank you for your honest and very informative video! As you shared about clothing being in good condition and people want a change in wardrobe, a thought came to me. I think from now on if I replace my current wardrobe # 1 with a wardrobe # 2; I will put wardrobe # 1 away for a while. Then later; I can switch back to wardrobe # 1, when I get tired of wardrobe # 2. Then I will only be buying new pieces to replace things as they wearing out.

I have been binge-watching all of your videos since I came across them. We are fellow Ramsey success stories. We got out of debt, left the US & are living in Europe on a fraction of what it would cost in the States. We just paid cash for an apartment with pomegranate, loquat, & fig trees in the back garden and are swooning over it. (I’d love to hear more about how you utilize your fruit trees year round in a future video). You are our kind of people! Keep up the great work!

Here is a good example... inflation is real... prices of anything will go up.. the value of the dollar will not be the same 10 years from now. If you buy a property that is in a good location.. that 200k investment will probably be 60% up in the next 10 years.. while you collect rent. Do you see Bill Gates maintaining his wealth? No... ever couple years the man adds 10 to 20 percent to his networth... last I checked he was an 80 billion dollar man... not a 45 billion dollar man from 2012

I remember a dear old lady that I cleaned house for. She would go and buy herself some new clothes occasionally. Really, not a lot. Her daughter would have the nerve to tell her that Mom was just wasting money. Her son was like "ya, enjoy it, Mom" I think there were a few bucks in the bank that daughter (who wasn't hurting) wanted to get her hands on. I'm saying, "sure, go buy the new clothes" This woman was closing in on 90 when her husband passed. It's your money, you spend it as you wish
