In this video, my brother Zane and I hang out with the healthiest old people in America and learn their secrets to longevity.
In Loma Linda, California residents live about a decade longer than the average American and are staying vibrant and healthy into their 80s, 90s, and even 100s.
This anomaly of an American city is home to a large number of centenarians or people who live to be over 100 years old.
Loma Linda is one of five Blue Zones in the entire world and the only one in North America. A Blue Zone is an area of the world where residents live much longer than the average human and also seem to stay fit and healthy into old age, avoiding the typical diseases that have become leading causes of disease. The other Blue Zones are Nicoya, Costa Rica, Sardinia, Italy, Ikaria, Greece, and Okinawa, Japan.
The majority of residents in Loma Linda are Seventh Day Adventists, a Christian religion that believes in specific healthy lifestyle practices. Researchers believe this may be a key contributing factor to Loma Linda's increased health and longevity.

I grew up Seventh Day Adventist, and while I'm spiritual now, I'm vegan, practice rest and love living in the moment. I will never forget the wonderful lifestyle habits I adopted from that religion. They do an amazing job at advocating for health and community. Thank you for taking me back to my childhood :)

Grew up Seventh Day Adventist. Have grandparents who participate in the religion still and they are the healthiest people I know. Definitely agree with the healthy lifestyle tips like eating unprocessed when possible, intentional time for rest, clean water, time in nature etc. Sky, you did great being respectful of them and focusing on the healthy lifestyle 🥰

My grandma was 93 when she died and she ate like crap. Lots of carbs and processed foods. But one thing she had in common with the people in this video, is she made God the center of her life and prayed for health and prosperity everyday; for her and her loved ones.

My grandfather died when he was 90. He was a renowned surgeon for over 40 years and worked like a madman. He was truly someone who had a passion for what he did. I remember him telling me that to stay sharp and healthy in old age, you should Read every day, exercise every day, and always have a project to be working on. His goal was to live to be 105 (who the hell knows why), but he unfortunately passed of cancer at 90. He had an amazing life thoufh

Aw I loved her prayer so much! My family is seventh day Adventist, and I miss taking my day of rest on Saturday. I work for another Christian organization that closes on Sunday, open the rest of the week. I'm one of the only people that can manage the store on Saturday. I really wish I could have my sabbath like I used to. If I could, I know it would improve my mindset and quality of life.

That’s one thing I respect so much about them and other christians who adhere to the sabbath. Some of them the minute it’s sun down on friday, it’s rest day. They play games with the family, order take out, truly enjoy! Go to church Saturday and enjoy until Saturday night.

Thank you, Sky and Zane. My beloved 95 year old grandfather, Gordon Hutchinson, passed away last Tuesday and I have been in a state of desperation and anger since. My children and I spend as much as possible with him while he was actively dying. It was extremely detressing because he forgot my youngest daughter completely, accused one of my brothers of having murdered our grandmother and I (before I arrived that day) and tried to attack a nurse who was there to check his pressure stockings. He was a dentist who was a volunteer guide at The National Gallery of Australia when he retired and he loved the Australian outback and the beach. I last saw him last Monday afternoon, held his hand and read him some Hugh McCrae poetry. I've lost friends and, worst of all, my partner Chris who passed away January 2020. But is almost unbearabe. I don't know who I am without my grandpa as the leader of our family. Blessings and thank you for making positive, hopefull content.

My gma is 98. I love her so much. She's just now starting to slow down, she's not got any friends left her age. But I do my best to call her every Friday because we're states apart now and I know she loves hearing from me. She's pretty mobile yet, and only has just now started to use a cane just incase when outside her home. She does have a walker on standby. But I know some of her snacks were unintentionally also my favorite, and I hope that with what I incorporate food wise will help me to live as good and as long as she has and will continue to. I remember reading an article online though a few years back about each person's individual genes/cells all have a lifespan and some are shorter than others, no matter if you incorporate all these healthy things or not, someone unhealthy could still outlive someone who's as healthy as you can get. I'm not sure how much true science is behind that but I definitely choose healthy since I was in and out of the hospital a lot the first 4 years of my life. These people were wonderful, this video really warmed my heart 💞

There are many points to add. The single greatest addictive substance in the US is not caffeine but sugar. The intake of carbs, particularly of sugar, has shot up over the past century. Also, in the 1930s, industrial seed oils replaced animal fats as the mains source of fatty acids in the American diet. Carbs and seed oils are two of the main ingredients in nearly all hyper-processed foods. We have a ton of research now to know why these foods are so harmful. Just don't eat a high-carb and highly-processed Standard American diet and you'll be ahead of the game. Another thing is that the Mormons, in eating meat, live just as long as the Adventists. Both groups on average have a generally healthy life, avoid drugs and stimulants, and are of a higher socioeconomic class. They probably also exercise more often, not to mention their religion offering strong social support and teaching conscientiousness. Many things relate to higher socioeconomic class, such as access to education, information, organic whole foods, supplements, healthcare, less violent communities, lower stress lifestyle, etc. This is part of the healthy user effect; and in addition part of the wealthy user effect, in a high inequality society. Now look at the longest lived national populations in the world. Guess what they eat and do more so than Americans? Meat. So, the Loma Linda residents' relatively longer life has nothing to do with vegetarianism. And not all Adventists are vegetarians. Besides, vegetarians still can eat plenty of nutrient-dense animal foods (dairy and eggs) that, unlike plant foods, contain all essential nutrients. By the way, almost all junk foods are vegetarian or vegan.
