Easiest thing to learn. It was in fact right under my sink. My mom thought we needed a plumber here I said no, we doing it the old school way, somebody pull up RU-vid for me 😂😄
We have a copper pipe that leads from behind the fridge into the basement and comes out of the ceiling into a valve and knob..I assume that’s the waterline instead of under our sink? Just got a new fridge and trying to hook up for the first time
Usually, the turn off valve is either next to your cold water shut off valve under the sink or sometimes there’s one right behind the refrigerator on the line depending on who installed it good luck thanks for watching
We live in an older home (built early 70s) and didn't see the fridge water line valve under our kitchen sink. Had to shut off main water line when we sold our fridge today. Any other locations where the shut off valve could be located?
@@RobertWF42 thanks bud I’m gonna check for it myself. My water line is useless on our fridge after ice maker stopped working and puppies chewed through the door dispenser line.. now the filter is leaking and freezing up inside the fridge at the front and the back of the filter. Need to disconnect it so I can remove the filter and just have it disconnected since we don’t use it anymore anyway. Need to get a new fridge but not in any rush seeing as the dishwasher and oven just stopped working at the same time after 17 years hahaha 😂
@@peanutheadrules @SillySpongebob God what a mess, good luck. After contractors finished our kitchen we hired a plumber to help hook up water to dishwasher & fridge. He said the puncture valves installed by contractors on our fridge water line are not up to code - they leak and don't completely shut off. I never would have known. He installed tap valve which is sturdier. Contractors also neglected to cap the old fridge water line, that was a mess when I stupidly turned on the valve and water shot everywhere on the floor.
The line can be connected directly to the cold water valve from the water heater. That's where it was on my aunt's old home, which was built by my grandfather
There has to be a shut off valve somewhere if you can follow the line that comes out of the refrigerator and see where it goes. It Hass to be somewhere close to another shut off valve. Good luck thanks for watching.
My ice maker arm broke and constantly makes ice nonstop. Could I just turn off the water line to the fridge? I don’t use the ice or water dispenser anyways.
Hey sir today i tried turning on the small valve behind the refrigerator and no water comes out. Not even a drip. I dont see anything under the sink either that would turn it on. Any ideas? The valve was covered in rust but ive cleaned it all off.
I have a very small amount of water drip from dispenser on refrigerator. I thought my water line was to be turned off. No water comes out from dispenser when you press it. Is it possible to have a tiny drip in water if water line turned off? Thanks!
What if you only have 2 valves under the sink that are just your regular circle knobs? Like how you have outside for your garden hose? I turned the one on the right completely off and it didn’t stop the water leaking from my fridge. The one on the left won’t budge. I’m all alone and disabled and completely broke. I can’t even buy groceries. Trying to find someone to lend me a wrench to try and loosen the left valve to try that one, but I too believe it’s the one on the right because of the thin hosing. But again, turning it to the complete off position did absolutely nothing. My sink still turned on and the water is still being fed to the fridge. It’s been leaking for who knows how long and the floor under the fridge is a blanket of black mold. I’m trying so hard to move it to clean it with bleach. But I need that water off ASAP! Any advice? Thank you.
You may have to get somebody to move the refrigerator or pull it out and your valve to turn it off. Will probably be just behind the refrigerator. There’s usually only two places under the sink on the Coldwater side or right behind the refrigerator. Good luck thank you for watching.
@@TomLeeman sorry if I didn’t make that clear. There’s nothing but a solid wall behind the fridge. I used some WD40 to loosen the valves. I have them both turned completely off. It has done nothing. I still have hot and cold water to my sink and the fridge is still leaking. I am so confused. I have no friends, no family, no money. I don’t have anyone to call to help. But thank you anyway.
Oops, I moved a refrigerator. Broke the tube. Leaky leaky. I knotted the tube to buy time to figure out where the shut off valve may be. So, this has me thinking why no valve shut off behind refrigerator where the tube is at? That makes sense to me to have the on off right there.
Sometimes they have them on the back of the refrigerator, but we’re in or originate. That is usually where the shut off valve on the cold water side, which is usually the right good luck thanks for watching.
Hi Tom. I’ve got two valves under my sink. The one to the left shuts off the sink’s cold water, but the one to the right has no effect. I shut both of them, but water still flowed from my fridge. I was still able to fill 2.5l of water. My fridge is surrounded by cabinets attached to the wall so I can’t drag it out to maybe see if the valve is at the back. I’m currently trying to change my water filter. Any help whatsoever would be really appreciated. Thank you!
Usually there is a secondary valve off of the main on the cold water turn off valve under the sink. If not, it Hass to be somewhere along the line of where the water is originally coming from. You’d have to trace it back. Usually you can change your water filter without turning off the water, good luck. Thanks for watching.
You have to follow the line from the back of the refrigerator and usually it goes underneath your kitchen sink to the cold water valve and has an attachment that you can either turn on or off by by attorney at perpendicular or parallel to the waterline parallel is water is on and flowing perpendicular is turning off water. Good luck thanks for watching.
I suspect a mouse has chewed thru the line, & started flooding my kitchen! i used packing tape to keep the line kinked, but i need to know how to turn the water completely off incase it doesn't hold or another hole gets chewed thru. this valve is not under my kitchen sink, the only valves under there is directly to the sink's faucet. i can only assume this means the valve is in the basement... we just bought this house & moved here 7 months ago! i have no idea where it cld be in that basement, theres no wires pipes or lines directly below the fridge!!!!
Can you follow it from the refrigerator back and see where it leads you may have to replace the whole line but you’ve gotta find where originates and where the valve is that it’s connected to. It Hass to be some cold water valve somewhere in the house it’s usually under the sink, but it could be somewhere else and sometimes they have it completely Separate valve for it. Good luck thanks for watching and merry Christmas.
Found the shut off valve but it didn’t actually stop water from flowing, just minimized the pressure. And my new fridge doesn’t have an ice maker, so I don’t need the water line on right now. Any suggestions?
Thank you! I tried to turn off the water at the back of the fridge. I even disconnected the line as it started making a 'thumping' noise. But all I got was soaked. The valve would not close. I looked under the sink and found the shut-off! THANK YOU!
We have a second home in the mountains. We are not up there as much in the winter. How do I keep the ice maker water line in the freeezer from freezing? I turn off the water to the condo when we aren’t there in the winter but water is still in the line to icemaker.
My puppy had chewed through the line at the floor level, where it goes into the basement. I turned off the water supply, watched your video, and then cut the water off at the pipe source as you demonstrated. Thank you!
Oh no! That’s what Puppy still unfortunately but glad to hear that you got it turned off and now you can fix it and somehow keep your puppy away from it. Good luck thanks for watching and I love dogs.
No water comes out of the shut off valve behind my refrigerator when I turn it on. There is no pressure. Is it possible there is a second valve "up steam"? perhaps connected directly the water line?
@@TomLeeman Thanks for responding. We just had a new house built. When I the valve and blow air into it, the air blows freely, which leads me to think the valve is not hooked up to anything. Hopefully they'll honor the warranty. Not holding my breath.
@@TomLeeman Wasn't hooked up. Plumber came and fixed. Need a little drywall repair...no big deal. Thanks for posting the video and addressing my comments.
This was so helpful thank you. I never saw a connection like this without its own immediate valve and was looking for a while before I found your video. Thanks again!
@@TomLeeman it doesn’t but I did just cap it off … I need to get a video to put a valve on it … There is no valve anywhere unfortunately n thanks again
@@mikejones129 wow I guess you would have to follow that line all the way to its original Oceanpoint and somewhere along there. It Hass to have some type of valve. Good luck. Thanks for watching.
