Great idea!!! I’m a stay home Mom but love this. I have clothes but ever know what to wear in the morning because I have no inspiration with two kids running around. I totally want to plan a week ahead. Thanks for sharing!
I use the glam outfit app. You keep photos of all your clothes in it and when you create outfits, you make a collage of the items and you can even add hairstyles, makeup ideas and selfies into it. Then you can plan which day to wear it.
I have been preplanning my outfits for three years now. I pick them out, iron them and they're ready to go. I worked in retail for about 13 years. I think that experience helps me. I work at a high school and work begins next week. Guess what I'm doing now? Planning my outfits.
masaabza How far in advance do you plan/prepare? I was doing it weekly, but fell off. I’m honestly not sure I want to take it as far as Ms. Messiah describes, but maybe it’s worth a try.
Could you do a video about styling as a plus size woman? I've watched so many of your videos (binge watching really), including the ones where you've touched on being plus size, but this is the one thing I'm seriously struggling with. I feel like there are certain things that you and others suggest (shirt tucking, belts, etc) that just won't work when you're plus size (I'm a size 22/24) and at my age (47). I have learned so much from you already and would love to hear your insight on this.
Wow! I heard of such apps, never testes one. I racked my outfits so i can be ready i 2 min no matter the mood or the occasion. Organizing is best time saver you can have
I've spent the last year trying to build a wardrobe in a fit of desperation, which is never the way to go. I'd never given clothing that much thought before and never invested the time into dressing well, so I attempted to make up for lost time and took the crash course. I basically flunked by buying a bunch of not so great pieces, things that don't fit perfectly, and a lot of crap that wasn't really me because I thought that's what was supposed to be in a capsule wardrobe, and have ended up decluttering most of it. But, at least through all my newbie mistakes, I ended up actually learning the important lessons and have now identified my personal style, how to shop, and how to dress myself. I flunked all the tests, but still learned and retained all the information lol. It takes some time to really get it, and building a wardrobe from scratch is not an overnight process. Your videos have probably been the most helpful and practical throughout this entire process. If only I had found them when I first started!
So true Lauren. My friends and co-workers always call me the fashion diva because I plan my outfits for the " WEEK." lol. Right down to the shoes, jewelry and handbags. I don't care, make fun. I LOVE looking well pulled together at all times and how it makes me feel. They could do it too but just don't care to want to take the time to put together even basic looks. ( Don't get me started on the shorts and flip flops at work... smh) TFS 😀
I cleaned out my closet, but don't have many clothing. I have a few clothing with tags that I like, but don't feel 100% confident wearing due to my fupa. 🙁 will be looking into getting your book
You should create an app. I would be the first one to download it!😊 I love all your videos by the way and I think you're great! Thank you for sharing all your style wisdom with us, you are very kind for doing that when you don't have to.❤️
I’m starting to see what I’ve been doing wrong. I don’t even have a mirror in my bedroom and don’t own a full length mirror at all. That can be fixed. But I still have the problem of it being too hot to wear anything but shorts (almost the whole year), too hot to wear a third piece to complete an outfit, and no where to go where a skirt wouldn’t look too dressy. I’m so frustrated.
Why don't you try getting your shorts in different colors styles and materials, or do it up with nice sandals with stones or something like that and maybe a little necklace or bracelet or a statement ring or some cool earrings. Just do you but shoosh it up a little, put a little twist to it. And wear that skirt girl! Be that person in the room and makes the others wish they could be more stylish, or brave enough to dress better just like you! ( Just don't over do it!) Lol ❤️
This is so true! You do need to know your style ‘personality’ and have the basic items you need for whatever your activities will be (blazers if you need business outfits, jeans if your lifestyle is casual), and then plan it out! I used to travel for work every week, so would put the outfits for the week together on my Pinterest board before packing- lighter suitcase and put together every day.
I purge and reorganize my closet 2 or 3 times a year. I only buy about 2 to 5 apparel items a year. I give a lot of thought to my wardrobe. I use my jewelry, handbags, shoes, boots, scarves, and pashminas to accessorize my outfits. About 90 percent of my clothing items can be mixed and matched; I stick to my color palette (black, white, medium or dark gray, red, royal blue, royal purple, and very rarely, emerald green).
I'm going to start planning my outfits as well. I actually did that my first two years of high school then fell off. I used to use polyvore but now it's gone so now looking to try a new app. I'm thinking of doing a fluid capsule wardrobe because I don't want to many items in my wardrobe. I'm currently revamping my wardrobe.
When I was going into an office I started with a fitted white t-shirt, cotton Zara basic slacks in solids and prints, cardigan, choice of heels, belt, and a long necklace. I had 2 bins of slacks and cardigans file folded, and all the clothes were in a Light Spring color palette so most items coordinated. It was my uniform to have one of each piece. It took me 30sec -1min to get dressed, and I always got compliments on my clothes.
Lauren, what's your opinion on people who dress more avant garde or "high fashion" on a daily basis? Do you think it looks like they're trying too hard or that they're expressing themselves? Obviously that doesn't work for most people with their work environment, but what about off the clock or if you work in a setting that allows it?
Planning is everything! Since I started watching your channel, I began to remember what it was like to fully style out an outfit, a whole look. I realize one of the things holding me back is not having a full length mirror. That's going to be dealt with promptly. The other thing is consistency. I notice I have consistently not been wearing accessories because I am not sure how they will look with my Dr. Martens. I always feel like it's too much to also wear accessories, even though I have tons and tons of great jewelry. So, the problem is the mirror. I'm not afraid to put it all out there. The past two weeks I have been making myself polish off my outfits with either a statement necklace or statement earrings. I feel a lot more put together. The struggle of deciding on an outfit once I pick out the pair of boots I want to wear is REAL. It has to be done ahead of time. I can't expect myself to be creative or make good decisions before I've had coffee, and often coffee doesn't happen. When I was young, I totally planned out every detail. I was totally into it. I think I've just needed to be reminded that I love styling outfits and need to reinvest that time in myself.
I have a capsule wardrobe. 3 colors that all mix and match so no matter I grab, it works. For example: going to wrestle a few more dollars from my publisher. Obviously high NYC casual style is required so I select all black outfit with black stiletto-heeled boots and tie a leopard print scarf around my neckline, amber earrings and bracelet, black fedora, black bag and off I go. Easy peasy.
I take the easy way out, and save all my outfit suggestion cards of each piece I buy from Stitch Fix. I then decide which piece I want to wear, and use its card to create a similar outfit of pieces I have in my closet. I hate standing and staring at my closet. I am tired of it. I am not Lauren Messiah, so I am thankful for these cards.
Love your dark dressing room with pops of silver & colors. Thank you for this video...I'm inspired - I want to take pictures and have a style solution book too.
You are truly changing my life, thank you for all your advice! I cleaned out my closet and am working on getting clothes that make me feel like me. It’s a process and I really appreciate your videos. Thank you! ❤️
Great video!!! Thank you for that!!!! For the most part I’m a Corporate style woman. Most of my working years I’ve worked in a very formal office environment. However now at the age of 58 I am working in a local community insurance office which is extremely casual/business. Which to say is really more casual than business. I think I have brought to the office inspiration in putting together an outfit and dressing for the occasion. Even the owner has decided to bring it up a notch, if you will. But on Fridays she allows jeans only if you wear their logo golf shirt which is a unisex so it does not have any darts or curves or style or anything. Can you give tips on how to make that more fashionable. Keep in mind I’m not a small woman I am 5’7” @ 190 lbs. Any suggestions would be fantastic!!
Another great video! I have no idea how I found your channel but I'm glad I did. I recently lost a significant amount of weight and was having a hard time dressing for and styling my new body. Thanks to your videos I'm having an easier time putting myself together.
Can you make a video on how to shop when you’re extremely petite? Trying to reframe my mindset into believing shopping is easy and enjoyable. Not the biggest fan of kid section or juniors clothes.
Veronica King not sure if this answers your question but this series helped me figure out the type of clothes that suit my body type best ‘Aly Art Body Type series’ru-vid.com/group/PLjq1drkA_Cmn-bSUsQqAaLZcrIHQCN8vO
Hi Veronica! In order for me to continue to create high quality FREE RU-vid videos, I occasionally have to promote the products I create. It costs a lot of money to produce these videos. Plus, all of the products I make help take people to the next level when it comes to style. When one of my products relates to a video topic then it is my duty to share that with my audience. Thanks for watching.
Veronica Miramontes the video was made to give advice on how to look stylish without spending money. Her advice was to spend time planning (Very basic but commonly overlooked and is worth mentioning) If you need help planning your outfits, buy her book. She has simplified the planning process and deserves to be compensated for her work. Your comment is sad yet revealing of your character. You are cheap.
I am always amazed at people looking at videos for free and complain when someone promotes or advertise. I just do not have words. How about supporting one another and leave it at that!
