Is there a percentage you would recommend staying within for fat? I know you don’t track things but I do as it works for me, So knowing a rough percentage would be helpful.
50-35-15 Carbs -protein- fat.. I use that as a general guide always can make adjustments .. And remember it matters the quality of carbs protein and fat your digesting.. Hope it helps
Yeah. It’s not rocket science. Eat clean. Be in a calorie deficit. I did a 1700 calorie a day diet. With my weight in protein daily. Consistent workout routine. 260 to 180 in 9 months.
Wife: he’s probably thinking about other women Jeff: I carried the shopping bag with my right arm, now I need to go back and buy some stuff and carry it with my left arm to avoid muscle imbalance Edit:My reply comment section involves people arguing over if my comments underrated or not, and they literally had a aggressive argument pretty sure that’s more funny then my comment
@@km3946 dude.... My point is that you can't call something underrated in the first hour from posting, it just doesn't make sense. It's like calking a movie or new song underrated after a day or 2. We are now clear, aren't we?
No, bro, you're doing it all wrong!!! You're supposed to shock your body by going to the gym once a month in order to slowly walk on a treadmill while eating pizza and tootsie rolls!!!
A man that chases our success before his own. He knows that giving honest information will keep people coming back better than "cheap hacks and fitness secrets" will. Which isn't a bad thing. With his way everyone can win.

When I started lifting regularly, I found inconsistencies in my energy and lift. I had to develop a routine for what I ate and when. After lifting heavy, I also felt like crap for a long time until I ate rice. I was taking in a lot of protein, but not enough quality carbs - rice has really hit the spot. If I eat rice one to two hours before lifting, I get maximum energy at the gym, and quick recovery afterwards. Rice is key for me.
SUPRISE! I am the funniest YTer evah!!!! Just kidding, it was no surprise. Everybody knew already. HAHAHHAHA!!!! That was an amazing joke (it was real talk though). WAWAWAWAWA!!!! Good afternoon, dear daniel
I ate lower carb for a whole year (not KETO), lost weight and muscle despite working out (HIIT, weight lifting). Then the binge eating came out of nowhere, thousands and thousands of calories a day. I put on 20pounds in 3-4 months. Tried IF to get rid of the need to binge, tried OMAD, tried low carb, lowered calories. Nothing worked to get rid of the binging and the cravings, and my body started to hold on to every ounce of new body fat for dear life. Only after I started to eat higher carb/lower fat did the binging/cravings suddenly stop and the weight started to shift again. I now eat a bowl of wholegrain pasta every night. I think you're right that we need to discern between the various types of carbs, cut out the treats, and not deprive yourself of carbs. Maybe low-carb/KETO works for some people, but not for all.
Late 50's, 5' 10", 175lbs, about 18% body fat, pretty muscular, pretty lean. Eating spaghetti with a ton of sauce at work. The circle guy looks at me and asks is it wise to eat so many carbs. Before I could answer, I heard someone else in the background say, Look at him. Looks to me like he's doing something right! :)
@Bernd DasBrot The video is about eating carbs. Telling people to not fear carbs. This discussion is about the same thing. My comment was in the vein of the conversation...that is, one CAN eat carbs and not think they're going to make you fat. Nowhere in my comment did I say anything about how frequently I eat pasta, and nowhere was I suggesting it was 'healthy'. But thanks for cherry picking a comment and twisting it to fit your perspective.
I personally appreciate this video. As someone who largely eats a ketogenic diet, this is a strategic move that I make as it fits the various goals that I am after. I applaud you for doing this video in a respectful manner. Hope all is well, Jeff. Keep on rocking!
The average American is obese and is going to die due to high carb intake. the low carb diet is not at all about maintaining a lifestyle of low carbs. it's about reversing your diet long enough to let your kidneys, liver, and pancreas all get into a healthy enough condition to function properly again. 6 months of no carbs should do that to most people. After 6 months of keto, I can now drink milk and have the same effect of an energy drink due to the sugars.
Both of these men ROCK! Though, I'm giving the nutritional edge to Thomas! I'm biased. I've personally experienced the healthy effects and sustainable approach of eating a low/lower carb diet. I'm glad Thomas chimed in. You guys should do a video together discussing these matters in greater length.
Wow nice to see thomas commenting. Thomas I lean more to your style of eating. No pun intended. I have lost 80 lbs keto, fasting with no working out. I follow Jeff more for the workouts. I work out hard but have slacked on the keto some. Still fast and plan to keep fasting. Fasting is best thing I have done. Anyway I hoped the working out would off set my not so faithful keto but even tho I need to lose 20 or more pounds I have lost no weight since cardio and heavy lifting. I have put on some muscle. 45 year old male here. I'm happy regardless. I feel better. I listened to what jeff said but I have learned my body and carbs even tho I love I cannot eat daily without weight gain.
Also I want to add here for the people who wants to loose weight. Get comfortable not feeling full all the time. A lot of people confuse not feeling full with hunger. I know because I felt like that too. You should be eating enough but you should not be eating until you are full all the time. I know it's hard but if you condition yourself like this long enough your body and mind will adapt to it. And good luck for all mu fellow lifters. 👍
Taking your time helps immensely. I always make it a point to eat slowly and give myself time to feel satiated. I see so many people shoveling food down as fast as they can instead of just slowly eating until they're satisfied. You can eat 2 pieces of pizza in 15 minutes or 6 pieces in 15 minutes. In 30 minutes you either won't be hungry or you feel like hell 'cause you're stuffed.
That is perfect common sense. If we eat as we are designed to eat and only eat nutritious meals in portions that sustain life and not eat all kinds of crap until you’re full or beyond full your body will respond accordingly.
"Carbs don't make you fat; calories make you fat." That's a sentence I've read a few times, but it's true. As long as you're moving around and burning more calories than you consume throughout the day, you will not gain weight. Also, if you exercise a ton or participate in HIIT training most days like I do, you NEED the carbs to function. Speaking from experience, for two 3 straight day periods-6 days over two weeks-I went keto as part of a Summer challenge at my gym, meaning high protein and high fat, but no carbs. By the end of the second week doing it, I felt like crap. I couldn't even do my workouts at half-effort I was so exhausted. As soon as I incorporated carbs back into my diet, I felt like a million bucks. My energy was through the roof, and I was able to just blast my way through each workout. Without carbs, it wouldn't have been possible. Enjoy the carbs, enjoy life.
You didn’t get over the keto flu. I went keto actually very low carb 6 months ago and my energy hasn’t been better. But I will eat fruit in a smoothie that’s relatively higher in carbs after my workouts to replace glycogen. It works great for me. I also do intermittent fasting and that really helped getting past the keto flu.
I agree. I have a couple friends that went keto because he said he doesn't want to put fat on from carbs.. I was like what???? Lol I explained to him calories make you fat and funny thing was a month later he's complaining that he feels lethargic and no energy and I turned to him and said hmmmmm I wonder why 😅😅
You probably felt like crap because you are insulin resistant, and your body was trying to repair itself. I eat a ketogenic diet, and I do intermittent and prolonged fasting. I've lost 120 pounds since October 2022, and I've never felt better. I was also able to come off of my blood pressure medicine, my CPAP machine, cured my acid reflux, and stopped smoking while still losing weight. I'm on day 5 of a prolonged fast, and I've lifted weights every day. Not trying to get you to change your diet, just giving you another viewpoint.
Thank you. I did the keto and I felt so great, but my genetic is not to be skinny, I don't need to loose weight, I look better a little chunky, my mother and grandmother had excellent bodies, !! Me too!😊 jaja. So I am eating again my carbs, my work demands it, I don't seat all day, I walk a lot !! I eat a lot, and I keep my weight. My arms and legs and butt are naturally thick 😅, because latin genetic. And doing keto I lost weight and muscles. I love fruits , and e everything come from earth!! Casava. Yuca, potatoes, rice !! And protein. Oatmeal too
Not all carbs are the same. Sounds like you are talking about simple sugars as opposed to complex carbs. Oatmeal is famous for keeping you satisfied and fueled even if lunch time is delayed.

@@someguy2135 bruh,we were never supposed to eat that much sugar in the first place, vegans consume over 300 grams of carbs a day,and not only does that raise blood sugar, and prevents any sustainable weight loss, but also puts you at a higher risk for diabetes, high blood pressure, feeling hungry and moody if you skip a meal, besides humans need a lot of b12 and vitamin D and certain amino-acids from animal products, which is why cheese was made and other dairy products like yogurt and so forth, besides saturated fats by themselves are not the culprit, the real problem is the excess sugar in the diet, whether you get sugar from honey or potatoes or apples,it is still sugar regardless,so moderation is key,we need both animal products and plants and any exceds would harm you over time!
If sugar makes us fat how come i am healthy and lean eating mainly a high carb low fat diet? with no calorie restriction? and boy do I feel amazing! fruit is queen/king, and carbs are amazing. No wonder people are so grumpy restricting them.
I'm almost 60, female and never had an easier time in my life staying slim. I credit most of this to my diet which if full of complex carbs. I have told my overweight friends this for YEARS (the ones that ask me that is) They NEVER listen. So they still have no energy and they are still overweight. They are still starving themselves, doing fad diets and over dosing on cardio.
@@angelaolmos7318 I guess I'm blessed I don't have diabetes, cancer, autoimmune disorder or joint disorders, or any health issues at all. So I guess I can get away with just eating a healthy whole food diet, including complex carbs. I feel lucky that I don't have the damage that many do. I'm very grateful.
Some of us have a carb sensitivity, even to healthy carbs. In my case, my body hates them. I swell and feel horrible. I tried eating more good carbs and nope. Can't do whole grains nothing or I become inflamed. My feet swell up which makes walking uncomfortable. Not everyone is the same. I have great energy on low carb. I feel so much better. You have to listen to your body and go with what works for you. If your body can handle it, that's great. I wish mine could. Doctors have tried to guilt me into eating a lot more carbs, but it just doesn't work and I couldn't lose weight. I gained. Good luck to you.
@@patc8735 It can very of course, but I'll give you a rough idea. I do eat 3 meals a day and typically don't snack but if I'm ever hungry at all, then I'll have some nuts or fruit or really anything but I don't usually get hungry between meals. So breakfast most often is oatmeal with fruit & nuts. Lunch might be brown rice or quinoa with some kind of beans (or tofu) with a couple kinds of steamed veges and some hot sauce (or if it's tofu, then I use some sesame oil and coconut aminos) or whole grain tortillia with chopped lettuce and chopped veges with some kind of sauce for flavoring, and again beans or tofu. I usually throw on some avocado 3 or 4 times a week. Or sometimes a sandwich, which always includes veges or a salad on the side. Nuts on salad quite a bit too .Dinner can be similar to lunch (if I don't have tofu for lunch then I might have it for dinner.) but both meals always include at least 2 vegetables and some kind of green leafy thing. I don't eat a lot of meat, but I do eat grass fed beef once a week. I also eat Sardines or canned salmon once or twice a week for the calcium and protein. I have chicken here and there. I eat A LOT of sweet potatoes, sometimes every day. Or regular potatoes too. So basically a whole food plant based diet, with meat here and there. So lots of veges, nuts, seeds, whole grains, potatoes, fruit, some healthy organic meat, tofu, beans, fish. VERY little processed food. I don't know if this sounds good to you, but I love every meal I have. Of course I use other seasonings etc too. My meals are pretty big so I think that's why I don't get hungry and snack.
@@patc8735 I also do eat cheese maybe once or twice a month (or whenever I want it) same with eggs. But nothing is off limits for me. If I want dessert or ? I'll have it. But my diet is so clean and I eat quite large portions of whole food, and it seems to make me feel so good, that I've kind of lost much desire for cake or icecream etc.......because after I eat those kind of things, I don't feel as good as I do, when I just eat clean.
Brendan Tovey 🤣 That’s just what happens when you allow the government to get involved in public schools. I’ll probably have to homeschool my kids in the future. But my school isn’t too bad yet, I live in Texas, but with all these Californians migrating here, I expect Texas to only get worse
Human biology is literally talked in schools, a lot of which is centered around nutrition; big problem is that most people (like you apparently) never pays much attention in school.
Been on keto for 87 days. Lost 54 pounds. Decided yesterday it was time to go off of it and start training my body to get ready for the building phase. Going to be avoiding sugars as much as I can. Started eating potatoes again which was weird. I just hate the bloated feeling that carbs give. But it’s time to make a change for long term success. Thank you for this video.
Propably isnt healthy longterm. But if u dont only consume animal fats, but also fats from plants it is totally fine. But Keto is great if u want to loose fat shorterm. Just dont switch from Keto to normal too quick, because of the Yoyo-effect.
You're feeling bloated because you ate too much you need to look up online what the serving size is then scale all your food by grams. It will help prevent you from overeating. Only eat sugar from natural fruits and try to buy your fruit and veggies at the Farmers market
Greetings from Slovakia. Jeff, as many other people around the world I really admire you. I´ve been watching your videos since 2011 and I wish one day I will look so good like you. On your appeal to let you know which topics we want you to cover here are my suggestions: 1. Can you do a video especially on type I and type II muscle fibres? How to focus on them, their ratio in each body parts, etc. 2. Thank to your advice we know that the leg extensions are a bad exercise. What is your opinion on legpress or hack squats? Are they a bad options, especially because of the pressure on spine? 3. In a 2015 video Quick shoulder mobility drill you used a resistance band and during this drill your arms were travelling behind your body almost to your glutes. Isn´t it a risky position for shoulders? 4. Hamstring stretch: anterior pelvic tilt vs. butt wink 5. Joint nutrition (glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM): real effects, benefits, dosing. 6. Tribulus, glutamine, carnitine. Do they really have some benefits or are they just waste of money? 7. Pros and contras of drinking plain water (chlorine, minerals)? 8. You showed us how to take dumbbells prior to doing flat benchpress. But what is the safest way for taking them before doing benchpress on negative bench with head down and then put them back on ground? 9. What is the best shoe option for wearing in the gym: sneakers, powerlifting shoes, bare foot? 10. We already know how to sleep in the right way. But what body position do you prefer while watching TV? And last, but not least: Is there any way to get your autograph? Seriously. (And maybe Jesse´s as well.)
I don't avoid carbs, because I need them, especially during my workouts and other daily activities. But I don't over consume them, because I don't need unnecessary storage of it in my body system. So knowing the amount you need for your daily physical activities will definitely give you a benefiting outcome.
Very good video. I used to eat a Keto diet for more than a year to lose weight without having to work out really much. But recently as I came back to Boxing I wasn't able to perform on my training at all without carbs. What i have learned from Keto is the awareness of the nutrition in the food we eat. People often overeat the tones of bad processed food and drink stupid sugary drinks and they blame the fact they cannot lose weight on carbs where the only thing they should be doing is change the type of carbs they eat and maybe the amount.
Exactly what y’all are saying. Keto isn’t zero carbs and carbs fuel muscles, timing is everything. Keto is great for jumpstarting a cut. I’d only recommend it for people with self control who can come off of it and maintain the results.
General population have no clue what they are talking about they think anything that doesn't sound natural even if it is isnt good for you and they prioritize weight loss over being healthy at least 40 year old moms do
I will vouch that this works 2 1/2 months ago I was 281 and was like whoa!! Quarantine wasn't nice to me. I was normally around the 250 260 range. I went the intermediate fasting route. I decided to change most of my eating habits and pay attention to how much I ate and didn't boredom eat either. Started doing some of the core exercises and others that I was able to do to work my whole body the first month.i gradually intensified the work out and lost 31 pounds in the first month. I took a break after that because i was feeling lightheaded all the time and took a break from working out to regulate my body. I was still eating the same food but started incorporating a little bit larger portion then I was before and I was still losing weight. Now is day 1 back to working out. I'm currently down 46 pounds and still losing weight.
Keto diets are good for persons trying to reverse insulin resistance which caused their obese or overweight state. If you are not insulin resistant, have a adequate muscle to body fat ratio, excercise regularly, know your portion sizes. Eating carbs is not a problem. Even those who reverse their insulin resistance can return to eating carbs once they understand the science of food. And like you said their are different types of carbs.
I don't doubt it. I saw increased energy levels and muscle mass as soon as I stopped eating rice every evening and swapped it for vegetable salad instead.
For me, it was cutting out sugar. Anything with sugar gives my joints pain and inflammation. As soon as I cut that out, I lost weight, built muscle and gained a lot of energy. Carbs were my go-to replacement for sugar. It can help some people.
You get un-used to sugar in your diet (sorry but I'm assuming you're american because I am and you made it sound hard to cut sugar out) and the slightest bit is like OMG SO SWEET lol. Dude we go to a chili place pretty regularly and the corn bread with a bit of honey is my dessert! Most desserts are way too sweet for me now and I don't count that as a negative :)
@@r0e404 When you drop processed sugar intake, you'll find a supremely ripened strawberry is one of the sweetest fruits out there. Watermelon is both sweet AND heavy. I am Type 2 diabetic and carbs spike my glucose levels. I have to limit carbs if I want my blood glucose levels lower. Eating a high protein, low carb diet has worked wonderfully. Eating carbs last at a meal is a great way to help keep glucose levels low like Jeff suggested. In fact, when I eat carbs last at a meal my glucose levels don't spike as high.
Okay so.. if you carry more fat than lean muscle tissue, at any weight.. than keto can have its advantages for sure. Because your body is like a warehouse of stored energy waiting to be distributed. This would also suggest (again assuming you have more fat than muscle tissue) you’re possibly carrying a surplus of sugar in your blood also. You need to spend that stored energy before you can consider using carbs as a fuel source. I was over 320 lbs twice in my life and the second time around I did research and applied it to my body as I went along with my progress. So with a bit of intermittent fasting and a low carb (keto) diet.. you can build muscle and lose weight at the same time, (this is in fact the best time to do both) which is why it’s easier to progress with your gains/loses at the start of your transformation. In time, you will notice the lean tissue take over the fattier parts of your body, and hopefully, you will eventually get to a lean figure (assuming you want to be lean and not bulky) and this is when weight loss becomes more difficult. All the stored energy in your fat cells are depleted or for the most part anyway, so now your need to go about reformatting your diet and consider using carbs to get leaner (sounds sketchy but very true) and have the energy to finish your training sessions without feeling like your struggling to get any progress done. This is when you have to be SMART about the type of carbs you take and how much you actually need to execute your desired physical performance/appearance . There is more details once your getting closer to 15% or less body fat, like what kind of hypertrophy, and progressive overload your gonna undergo etc.. but putting everything else aside. Strictly speaking about carbs, it’s complex carbs( rice, oats, potatoes) over simple carbs (cereal, candy, processed sugars) you really need to be eating for training purposes. Yes, you can eat simple sugars but that’s gonna be stored mostly in your liver (as fat) rather than in your muscle tissue (fuel, definition). Once your training upwards to 90 minutes a day, resistance training, cardio, heavy weights etc.. this is when those carbs are essential in my opinion. But again, knowing how many your gonna need is a trial and error situation per individual, and what you wanna look like.. (Bruce Lee, Arnold swartzenegger, or something in between). You also have to give your body time to absorb said carbs, I personally eat complex carbs 90 min or more prior to my workouts to allow digestion and distribution into my muscle tissue. But if it’s simple carbs, I only do cereal that’s high in fiber but candy bars (w/e) also, can be eaten roughly 30 min prior to a workout so it’s a quick energy boost and can be burned up quite easily if your doing a serious training session. So the leaner you get and the more shredded you want to be, Keto diets become useless and often hurt your gains because storing fat at a leaner build won’t get you the shredded physical appearance, especially if your trying to get visible abdominal tissue. People tend to overdo the fat consumption anyway, like eating all kinds of bacon and butter? If your over 15% body fat.. this is just gonna keep you from seeing more positive results. I’m not a doctor, or a certified blah blah blah.. I’m just someone who has effectively changed my physique after going through some serious shit that put me in a position where I needed to make some serious life decisions or.. ☠️☠️☠️. If you read this all the way, thanks for not wasting my time.
@@InsendoChavero and here I was wondering why the results have slowed down drastically and why I was feeling depleted rather quickly while working out. In other words don't fear the carbs but be smart about them. thanks. was a good read and congrats on turning your life around.
I did keto to drop 30 lbs and it worked great. Having said that I tried to stay on it and my work outs sucked and I was depressed. I was at a point of maintaining my weight and it really was some of the weakest work outs I ever had. I include carbs now and everything is right in my life.

@@AD-ui6sk nah it dosnt works like that. Who you would think will be leaner? Someone who eats 2000 calories of sugar and fast food or someone who eats healthy?
It's true but I think because the body finds it more tiring to burn stored fat, rather than newly eaten carbs. I think the bulking (carbs on demand) / cutting (reduce carbs) routine works well enough and is sustainable for most in the long term.
Thats interesting when i was doing extremely low carbs basically trying to cut out all sugars i felt great lost fat fast and mentally clarity improved as well. But I agree that in the gym weight lifting suffered slightly, I felt slighty weaker like i didnt have that extra gear and the end of sets like i did when eating carbs.
@@vitaminb4869 It makes sense just fine. Carbs isn't the only source of fuel our body uses, it's perfectly capable of oxidizing fats or proteins if needed. That said I don't subscribe to "You have to stick to a Paleo diet", besides the fact that nobody agrees on what that means exactly nobody's eating exactly like the time period it supposedly refers to because we no longer have access to the same food sources.
I've been having great success with carb cycling, that is I eat high carbs on training days and then almost keto on the off days and I've been shedding crazy weight
I have followed a mostly ketogenic diet for the past 1.5 years. It has helped me lost almost 100 lbs and helped me get in pretty damn good shape for 41. However, I have started to introduce some carbs back into my diet strictly for variety. Honestly, I know that I don't have self control and it is a slippery slope, so I am very careful.
Me too.. I learned to control it and knowing how many carbs a portato or cup of rice is and still stay under 100 grams a day, unless I"m going to work out hard that day.
Same here. Most of my carbs now are veg, berries, avoiding grains and simple carbs. I eat 3-4 eggs a day. Went from 236lbs @5"7" to 164lbs in 6 months. If you look at his food that he eats, each meal looks normal and not skimped in anyway. He's talking about indulging in shitty food. He's also saying that eating the right carbs and fats won't have negative effects like weight gain, but rather keep you health because your body needs carbs and fats to survive.
So basically, don't eat sugary food. And otherwise just don't eat to much. Is that summery correct. If that is the case then I am very proud of myself. That was exactly what I found was the most sustainable way to slim down
@Bernd DasBrot "humans didn't eat carbs in any relevant quantity" ??? Many early humans have been known to eat tons of carbs, with as much as 250g of fiber per day. That is an absolute fuck ton of fiber.
@Bernd DasBrot if you really think the majority of early humans weren't eating a lot of carbohydrates you are delusional. Sure there are some outliers that couldn't find anything but meat because of their environment, but most people were eating lots and lots of plants, including fruits.
I lost over 50lbs in three months doing healthy keto and intermittent fasting. One meal a day and I don’t get hungry. I keep carbs around 30g and under 50g in general. I get my carbs from leafy greens and nuts. I try to keep my fat intake high. About 70% of my calories. I’m fat adapted and my body uses fat as fuel rather than carbs. It’s truly the secret to body fat loss. I wouldn’t do this diet to build muscle, but the point is to lose weight and it works fast and easy.
several things that i will stick to the keto-way is: I sleep better and i wake up like a million bucks, my mood never goes up and down, my focus is beyond good and i dont have any inflammation. I feel sooo much better! i will never tell people that keto is the way to go, but it works for me. Like everything else in the beginning when you start something new, it will be hard, but you just have to get over it and you know/feel when things starts to fall into place.
I went on a straight health food only diet a few years ago when I knew nothing about calories and macros and lost a ton of weight but also lost muscle, then went through bulking and half-assed cutting cycles, I put on muscle and fat on the bulk but I’d always end up failing when I came to consistently cutting fat. I did keto but I had no energy while working out, I tried to get on diets that really restricted my calories but I could only stay on it for a short while. I found some of Jeff’s videos a few months ago and finally started to consistently lose fat and am now on the right track to getting super lean. Keto seems to work very well for people who are obese and have several dozen pounds to lose, for the average person i think a diet of meat and protein but also vegetables and carbs like fruit and grain is perfect, especially if you are working out; a slow consistent diet that doesn’t restrict calories so much that you fall off and end up gaining the weight back.
Yeah eliminating carbs just makes my weight yo-yo drastically, since I always go back to yummy carbs. We need carbs for the cells in our brain and body. I eat 300g everyday and drop fat consistently. I eat less fat more fruits and veggies to lose weight. I love it and I can keep it up for life.
That's not true. You don't actually need carbs. You only need fat and protein. However, in the end it is calories in and calories out, so if you eat a high percentage of carbs but not too many calories, it can still work.
@@benpeeples4265 you do you and see what happens. every cell in your body needs sugar from fruits. ketones are toxic in the blood. again just do you I’m not listening to this bad advice bc I know it’s wrong.
@@riricarter8050 Ketones are toxic to your body ? Where did you get that information, professor ? Breastfed babies are usually living on ketones for several months, if ketones were toxic then babies wouldn't have grown to be a toddler. Secondly, there's essential fatty acids and amino acids, there's no such thing as essential carbs. Body makes glucose via gluconeogenesis from non-carb substrates like protein, so we don't need to eat sugar from fruits, but do you man and cells need cholesterol not sugar. That's the last thing our cells would require, I don't blame ya for not knowing bc no one talks about the proper human diet.
100-150 grams a day is literally all I need. Period. I'm no fan of keto, but even when I'm not cutting, I rarely go over that number and it works for me very well
Just quit keto after years and it negatively impacting my fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. Yes I lost a lot of weight but made my chronic insomnia and fatigue 10times worse and negatively impacted my immune system and mental health, landing me in hospital. Have been vegetarian, Vegan and low carb for a couple years respectively in the past too...I've decided to quit all that because it never gave me energy and kept ending up in hospital. I've decided to go opposite and go high carb (healthy carbs) for the first time in a decade and have never seen fat literally melt so fast off my body and quick muscle gains with training than ever before. Am so full of energy and mental clarity and improved my mental health/sleep drastically! I truly wish I'd started earlier and not experienced the negative impacts of all the other "healthy diets" that ruined my life!
sounds like you're in low carb. but not keto.. so your body never really enter ketosis maybe you're not eating fats or eating too much protein(you should get ketones test kit available in supermarket and test yourself in weekly basis) because when in your keto you shouldn't experience fatigue since fat is fueling you instead of carb
Jeff: Eat carbs Me: I’ll have two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda.
As a keto guy, I think this guy made a lot of sense. His whole argument is based on long term SUSTAINABILITY. To be clear, cutting carbs WILL help you lose weight. But, for professional bodybuilders and marathon athletes who are physically active ALL day long, including carbs will make the most sense regarding functionality.
Keto helped me get started with my weight loss journey. I lost my first 30 pounds with keto. Then I could start physically exercising, now my diet includes carbohydrates and I have stayed lean without Yo-Yoing back
Yeah I work on aircraft, and I’m constantly walking 15+ miles a day moving parts this and that. Plus I have to stay fit. There’s no fucking way I could go without carbs. I tried it. Hats off to the people who can
Thank you for being respectful. I have tried several times to control weight with a well rounded calorie restrictive diet with minimal success and each time, less and less effective. (Lowered my base metabolic rate each time) Keto/low carb has been the only thing to give me lasting weight loss, muscle gain and control over my insulin resistance, increased cognitive sharpness and zero sluggishness and energy crashes. I'm 51 and haven't felt this good or had healthy blood labs like this in 20 years.
Yes. This. I’m surprised that people are surprised to hear what a “carb high” is. I discovered this phenomena while in college because A.) I had more free time around lunch than in highschool and B.) was quite poor while attending my university influencing me to have a hefty diet of the McDonald’s dollar menu food. Those high carb meals spike your sugar levels, and drastically lower it within an hour, leading to unhealthy habits
@@birdswakeme651 That's because you were eating like 300 carbs and 1000 plus calories in one meal at McDonald's. Fast food is extremely high in carbs, fats, calories. Eat healthy carbs like sweet potatoes, vegetables, fruits. Eat lean meats. Stop eating fast food. The problem is right in your comment. People eat McDonald's 2 or 3 tines a day. Sit on their asses all day. Then go home and sit in front of the TV on their asses. Then they want to blame shit like carbs for being fat when it's their lazy ass lifestyle. Common sense is hard to come by these days 🙄
The same logic applied to exercise would be ‘don’t exercise regularly because you’re always going to be tempted to take it easy’. Forget weight loss, carbs are killing us. Use the same willpower required to exercise regularly to eat minimal carbs and you’ll not only look great, but you’ll be healthy on the inside too. Once you’re fat adapted you won’t be tempted by carbs, in the same way that when you workout regularly, exercise is not a chore.
Also, people often blame CARBS in these "high carb rich foods", but everyone forgets about the OILS and the FAT FACTOR that ALWAYS comes with carbs ( friend potatoes, pizzas etc) and the issue with the signal of satiety going to the brain. Fats and Carbs have different triggers for signaling your brain that you are FULL. When you mix them, it all goes HAYWIRE and you won't get that signal as soon as if you were to eat HIGH CARB LOW FAT or High Fat Low Carb. However since glucose is our main primary source of energy, and fats and proteins both get converted into some form of glucose in the body to be able to be used... CARBS (with low fat) ARE the most efficient way to fuel oneself. This whole protein protein fats fats fear the carbs is just propaganda. Edit: sure, for those who want to bulk up, increase the protein consumption, but NOT FATS.
Water fasting? I don’t know what that is but if it’s anything like what I’m imagining it’s where you purposely stopped drinking as much water and if it worked then good for you but that doesn’t really sound safe considering we need water to function.
I’m on year 3 and best shape of my life. Listen to MeatRX podcast every day. I do have beer every Friday, but it doesn’t seem to effect me just once a week.
The thing is if you don't count calories you could be eating more than your body needs resulting in no fat loss and more fat being stored. The best and quickest way to get into shape would be to start a keto diet an till you have achieved your desired look then introduce calories but remember to COUNT THEM AS THEY DO COUNT!
Carbs give me the energy to have intense, sustained workouts. Without them my workouts tend to be low energy. The high intake of carbs results in much better gains for me personally. It's taken me years to realize this simple fact.
Yeah, carbs aren't bad. Just like everything else in the world, there's no such thing as "good" or "bad". Everything is a tool, you just need to know where to use it and where not to use it. But it seems human nature is built around a simple GOOD / EVIL mindset where there's no in-between, limiting what you can accomplish.
People who are metabolically broken have compromised pancreases. Two thirds of Americans are prediabetic. Some people have food addictions. For those who are metabolically healthy, low fat high protein with some carbs works. For those prediabetics, the low carb seems to be sustainable. Look at the Virta health trials for diabetes reversal. They are on the third year. Two thirds stopped their insulin.
I'd say the prediabetics problem is more processed foods and refined sugar. Safe, natural carbohydrates taken with protein and fat should be fine. Now, I'm not rubbishing a low carb diet. I do at least one day a week where I eat no starch at all and I find that very beneficial, and I think for actual diabetics it's a good option. For most people though, oats, sweet potato, rice, vegetables - all good.
Syklone It depends on how well their pancreas recovers. Some people have beta cell death and will have less function, for others, the cells will recover and they can eat natural carbs as you have described.
@@Syklonus I mean I in general feel much better and satisfied on a ketogenic diet, but I also do mix in green vegetables without worrying about it. At this point keto has become popular enough that I dont feel like Im missing out on much.
Dickgirl Nationalist That is not true based on research. The best example is Virta Health. Now on the third year of their clinical trials. Sixty six percent elimination of insulin in patients. You can do your own test using a continuous glucose monitor. It’s a secondary measure (doesn’t measure insulin but does measure the result). Consuming fat results in nearly zero glucose response, protein causes slightly elevated response and carbs cause large spikes. I agree that all processed foods and seed oils are even worse.
Thanks Jeff for another informative video! I would just like to add my two cents. As a middle-aged person, I came to realisation that the food that I enjoy the most is the food that I ate in my childhood. My granny was an amazing cook, and sure enough, there were plenty of carbs on the menu. However, that food shaped my palate and I realised that no diet will ever 'work', unless I incorporate the variants of those dishes from my childhood. We ate a lot of stews, soups, plenty of veggies. Those meals were very filling and made from good ingredients. Now I adapted those meals in a way that serves the purpose of my current diet. I don't lose weight very quickly (I am slightly overweight), but I like the way that my body is slowly changing, and I am happy overall! I think it is a good idea to add your favourite dishes on the menu, not as a cheat meal, but as an adapted variant that works well for your diet plan.
Very bad advice for most people. He’s unique in his carb tolerance. Grains are not healthy in any way. Lechtins, no nutrients, turn to glucose. (We know because when young he ate m&m’s and sugar and junk food “like crazy” and was super thin. Only issue was he couldn’t build muscle.)
I've never been dogmatic about diet but from my own experience, with my lifestyle and my training load, nothing has brought me as much success as doing keto.
One thing I learned the hard way, is that as long as you are not eating a strict keto diet, you always tend to eat more carbs than you think you do. So even cutting carbs from my main meal I actually still eat quite amount of carbs anyway
this made me get up my ass and buy carb-rich veggies/fruits.. my fitness coach literally said to eat zero carbs at best (but I still eat a little before I workout for more energy)
