High blood pressure is a major global health challenge and one of the main reasons why it has become more prevalent is because increasingly more economically developing countries are adopting the western lifestyle which leads to sedentary behaviour, physical inactivity, consumption of calorie dense fatty foods, high sodium intake and excessive levels of stress.
It is also well recognised that excessively elevated blood pressure numbers can be associated with harm to the body at a microscopic level initially and then over a course of years that damage can start manifesting as strokes, heart attacks and kidney failure and therefore there is great emphasis by healthcare bodies around the world to reduce high blood pressure numbers through lifestyle and medications.

Zero alcohol for one year, conscious about sugar intake but not crazy, I eat clean single ingredient foods, my snacks are fruits and nuts, I don't have a cheat day because I don't feel the need. I do a light full body workout 5 days per week using dumbbells, bands and bodyweight. I have done zero cardio, but I do walk a lot at my job. I stretch before going to bed. December 2020 I was 30% body fat I had my physical last Friday and was 15% body fat. Stop reading about all the fad diets and study nutrition to make a lasting change in your health.

You are spot on with your description of how high Bp is handled by most providers. After 30 years of using prednisone, I started to have blood pressure issues which made my blood pressure dangerous. I went from taking one pill a day, to taking eight including clonodine. I was on a first name basis with the people that work in the emergency room. It took two years and hopping around to many doctors, before one said that I needed to stop the prednisone immediately. That’s all it took. I almost died because nobody gave a damn about the root cause. I love your channel. I thank you for keeping us educated as patients. ❤️

YES. Even the preventive asthma puffers raise BP. They "say" oh, it just gets into the lungs only - but if you think about it, the lunges are the great "exchange centre" where blood gets oxygenated and has zillions of tiny exchange pipes in the vasculature. So why would the corticosteroids not get into the system via the lungs? And put up the BP just like prednisone? Yup. Right.
@awalak7508

Hello, I’m glad you are off prednisone. I’m on prednisone for 3 yrs and trying to taper it down but them symptoms you get when you lower the dose was just crazy feeling, fatigue, poor appetite just feeling weak and can’t do anything? How did you just get off it? Now my BP is high too
@efranco2268
@efranco2268 Год назад
@@awalak7508 hello A, I’m sorry to hear this is your scenario. Stopping prednisone was difficult but not impossible. First this new doctor was behind me 100%. She is the one who said that was the cause. She ran tests to be sure my adrenals were still working ok (early morning cortisol). Once she knew that she also tested my PRA ratio. It is often a cause of hbp. Mine was off as a secondary cause (prednisone). Then I tapered slowly. Needed Xanax (small amount) to deal with the nervousness and anxiety. It took 4 months. I used a little scale to measure the weight of the pills as I cut them down. I’m grateful this doctor forced me to stop prednisone. Find a good endo to supervise during this process. Mine is in Florida. Saved my life.

An excellent insight into the world of BP. I have been through many such videos from other persons, and here you summarized all the key points very well. I really appreciate the fact that you are more concerned about the under lying condition. The only other method I wish you would address a little more is deep breathing. My BP was 170/110 and reduced to now about 150/100 9with life style change, beetroot, exercise, magnesium citrate). If I deep breath (following Dr Adam J. Story on RU-vid), I am able to lower this temporarily to around 144/95. Stress if a big factor and I find breathing helps. Look forward to your explanation on breathing, etc. please can you also create a video on how your online consultancy works for those of us overseas. Let me take this opportunity to invite you to Barbados at our home a holiday with your family after your recovery in quarantine. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

And I ignored it at my peril. I’m now eating very low carb AND using Intermittent Fasting. Never hungry and losing more Fat than Pounds! @@michelles2299 That's a perfectly fine set of numbers for blood pressure, especially for someone in that age range with their stated health history. Everyone's blood pressure normally rises and lowers throughout the day and night, even for elite world-class athletes, and especially with physical activity, just as this individual has stated doing more of with exercising daily, and other regular life events then taken into account too, and a heck of a lot higher than a very decent 135/77, and they're all plenty healthy and, again, it's absolutely normal, so please stop spreading false information and or projecting your own personal, as well as highly ill informed, health insecurities onto others when you clearly do not know what you're talking about in the slightest concerning blood pressure, or even anything else for that matter.

Dr Gupta’s videos are so encouraging when much of the medical ‘industry’ is moving in the direction of a pharmaceutical intervention for almost everything....I suspect because A) it is quicker to handle patients in an already overworked practice with a drug and B) there is money to be made from drug prescriptions (often for the patient’s life) rather than taking time to understand the individual who has a problem and then even more time to explain, educate and encourage the person to make the lifestyle changes that don’t make anyone a profit. The real profit is the improvement almost 100% of the time that the person (patient) makes. A Dr Sanjay Gupta video is a medicine in itself and one can almost feel the raised BP from stress or anxiety (when being confronted with the ‘talk’ about needing medications) lowering as we listen to common sense and genuine care about people from Dr G. How can we thank you.

Dr Sanjay you are so kind. Love listening to your great advice. My doctor wanted to put me on high blood pressure medication because it was high in her surgery. I advised I don't have high blood pressure but "white coat syndrome". ( she is a new doctor). She sent me off to get the 24 hour test with the cuff attached to my arm for 24 hours. The result was I did not have high blood pressure. Just as you advised.

I started following a low-sugar diet last September, after finding advice that this could reduce blood pressure. My consumption of added sugar before then was around 100g per day, but I managed to reduce it to just under 30g, which is the recommended maximum for adults. My BP was initially 128/85, but after only 2 weeks it was down by 10mm in both readings, and it has continued to fall gradually. My average BP is now (July 2021) 110/70 which the NHS regards as "ideal". I have also lost 10kg, and my sugar intake is now typically 10-12g per day, but the BP drop occurred long before the weight loss.

Most doctors seem eager to jump to the decision to lower the blood pressure by prescribing medication. They hardly take time and effort to educate patients about how blood pressure can be lowered naturally without recourse of medicines. But here we are provided different practices that can help lower blood pressure naturally. Even quantitative estimates of lowering of BP that can be expected is also provided. So we as patients are in trouble . They neither believe on these theories nor tell the patients about all this. I believe in all off this but the doctors only concentrate on the numbers and keep on giving medicines to fix it. They even add more if the number is little high. On my part I try my best to act what is right but it’s very difficult to argue with doctors who think differently. One day I will have no doctor in case I need one.

He's so wonderful . . . I hope you are able to find some relief with the bp, and your other issues. Just fyi, I too have zero estro/test/prog - and that started around age 45. I also had thyroid issues/partial thyroidectomy, but produce 'just enough' hormone to avoid thyroxin. I am 5'4 and 108 lbs, and really wish I could get more meat on my bones . . . does this help somehow? (from my perspective it is easier to lose than gain seroiusly). Any way, I think that his advice can definitely still help you - and indeed I hope it already has. I am wishing you well. It is hard being in the ER with high bp, have been there a number of timew with scary tachycardia . . . and I wouldn't doubt that our thyroids have something to do with this. But, we can still get our 'normal' bp down following his compassionate advice . . . so helpful!
