In this short video I will show you how to properly lubricate the impact or hammer mechanism on an Ingersoll Rand Style Impact Wrench. Some have a fitting to inject grease but how much should you pump in there? I'll show you how to make sure you're getting grease to the vital parts in order to keep the tool performing it's best for a very long time.

Speaking of slowing down, the small fittings most people put on these tools will cut the power almost in half. Need at least 3/8 hose and fittings.

WHat is the best kind of grease? Lithium based or Silicone based? Or can they be interchangeable. I’ve read not to mix grease types.

Can you use automotive high temp chassis grease instead of the high priced IR grease? Thank you for uploading this video.

they don t come with grease from the factory?
@LakesideAutobody
@LakesideAutobody 5 лет назад
They do come from the factory with grease but after a while i gets used up somehow - maybe some evaporates, burns up, leaks out, blows out through seals etc. Same with the ones that are oil filled - eventually the oil disappears and you have to replace the oil. Glad you liked it.

Why does this video look like it was made back in 1970. Quality, lighting. Too little and too much is subjective obviously. You should have defined that and showed it in more detail with close-ups.

Yeah.... I just started making videos on youtube back then using a Panasonic PV950 Omnimovie - the kind you wear on you shoulder! Since then I do them with a different camera :)

What about the rear bearing?
@LakesideAutobody
@LakesideAutobody 5 лет назад
You could take it apart further and pack that bearing - some guns have a grease point for the rear bearing that you can grease with a needle point grease gun. Hope that helps - Jerry

@@LakesideAutobodyhi. Is there such a thing as over greasing a gun? Too much lube is bad or not a problem? What can happen if too much? Thank you
@LakesideAutobody
@LakesideAutobody 9 месяцев назад
Yes, that's sort of why I take it apart and do it by hand instead of using the grease port on the impact. You can never see how much grease you're putting in there 🤔 Anyway, I don't think it will hurt the gun - just slow it down or decrease the torque of the gun :)@@mikeike7114

I followed this and it worked great. But my gasket broke and I didnt reuse. Is that a big issue?
@LakesideAutobody
@LakesideAutobody 3 года назад
Not really - a little grease may seep out. If it spins freely you're fine.

What about a vintage IR with the vanes

I'm sorry, that was the jitterbug orbital sander w/ the vanes! I haven't done the ingersoll-rand 1/2 inch impact yet. But I'm ready now that I've been enlightened ! Thanks, my dad would have enjoyed this as I have.
