Nice video Thom. I use chatter-bait blades in front of soft plastics, and sometimes metals in weedy situations for bass. They really do cut down on seaweed snags. Raymondo.
Great to seeyou back thom ive learnt so much from the kit room videos this last year its certainly helped me put some nice perch on the bank so thank you sir 👍🎣
It’s great to to see you back Thom! Great tips as per usual. I haven’t been fishing much myself this year, as I had my arthritic ankle fused in April’23. But I’ve got to get back on it! I am so delighted for you that you have another young one in the family. (Always put them first/but I know this is not a life lessons RU-vid 😂) Can’t wait to see you on the bank as well showing us how it’s done. Take care David
Thanks David! I had a joint fusion in my big toe last year so know what it’s like! Ouch! But will help no end once it’s healed. Will try doing more on the bank filming it’s just a job to be cameraman/sound/editor/angler and presenter all in one!
@@Thomhuntfishing Tom, I’ve got a lot of respect for the guys who post on RU-vid. It’s not that lucrative probably, it’s time and effort and basically you do do it because you want to do it, it makes you feel good. Plus, I think it’s a nice feeling probably that “you” are able to educate people about a pastime/job which you are very good at. And if it makes a difference myself and most of the people who watch your channel enjoy your teaching, your experiences, your tips and knowledge being shared. So thank you. Looking forward to whenever you post next. Cheers Tom.
Ah you're back, good. I was fishing a weedy river last week with some great Perch and Chub in it which was weedy and your tips will help a lot. However, its also has a quite a fast current in places so weightless lures and very shallow fished/top lures just get dragged all over the place and into the weed. I had zero control. There are plenty of 'pockets' as you describe and is around 6-6ft deep. Any additional tips? Oh and welcome little Tom number 2.
If you can see the open areas might be worth using slightly heavier Texas or Cheb weights and offset hook and making accurate casts. Or also maybe try a heavy dropshot, cast the rig in to the holes in the weed and then ‘shake the rig’ twitching the bait without moving the weight too much keeps it in the zone for longer
Hi thom I have been fishing a lake and it has an awful lot of weed but the water is still quite cold it is 9 to 12 foot ish and some of the parts you cast from are about 8ft above the water, I am struggling to work out how to fiah for sluggish perch when its that weedy. How would you go about targeting perch on this venue with power and finesse techniques. I know there are decent perch in there but i cannot find them for love nor money, even dropshot gets me snagged on loads of weed. I am looking forward to your suggestions also any tips on locating perch around winter time on such gravel pits. Thanks in advance, all the best.
Hi there, so if a drop shot is getting snagged a lot you just need to avoid going near it all together. Jerkbaits can be brilliant in cold water so a medium runner should get you 6ft deep which sounds ok. Other baits like lightly weighted shads fished above the weed could also be great. As for location…. If it’s a big lake they may simply be out of casting range from the bank, looking for deep water. They won’t come towards the bank until it gets warmer. Jan is always my worst perch month, followed closely by Feb! But usually March starts to get better as longer days and warmer temps get them biting again
I've had a few great sessions at very weedy venues, using a micro bait on the dropshot. Not all fish are out in the middle or far bank. A rod length out, just even dropping it in through the weed and twitching that micro has produced 40cm perch . Great video, enjoy your knowledge sharing. 👍🎣
hi Thom ,found your channel and subbed you congratulations on the birth of your baby son, amazing content probably the best lure fishing channel out there i have a narrowboat on the grand union canal that is very coloured but contains perch pike and possibly zander any tips would be really appreciated ie jig heads /drop shop or chebs i am on it quite a lot also bst times too early morning or late evening etc, thanks Thom enjoy ur baby boy.
Good to see you back at it 👍🏻 congrats on the baby. I have twin boys, they are 10 now and are always lure fishing with me nothing beats passing on your passion to the next generation 👌🏻🎣
Great logic and experience. Although I’ve pretty much been doing this through trial and error, it’s nice to know you’re recommending trying these methods. Great channel Tom and thank you for sharing. All the best to you and yours 👍
Literally the very question I was asking myself. Looking at the Canal and thinking... "How do I fish that?" So could you use a Bass-style "punching rig" too? If your looking for lead wire, you could buy some cheap leadcore leader and strip the wire out.
Thanks Thom this is exactly what I was looking for and explained perfectly. Just started fishing again after almost 30yrs and didn't want to get stuck being limited to one spot methods. Lure fishing has been a revelation one rod and multiple methods 👌 and although I haven't been mega successful I love the process and simplicity "Just need to hone my skills". I shall now watch all your content and be reassured to know that advice is at hand as and when I need it through the channel.
Glad you’re getting back in to fishing it’s the greatest pastime ever in my opinion! Yes lure fishing can be tricky at the start, there’s a minefield out there with potentially too many options (of lures at least on the shop wall!) but the more you stick at it the more rewarding it gets 👍
good to hear mate. hope all is well with the new addition to the family. and hope you get more time to go fishing, been buying lots of gear and im just waiting for the opportunity to get out with it. love perch fishing to the core mate :)@@Thomhuntfishing
