Can someone anywhere in the world please just put this in a diagram? Just a reel and a few arrows saying "grease here" and "oil here"? Why is that so hard to find?
@robertbrandywine
@robertbrandywine 11 месяцев назад
It's not that complicated. IMO, bearings don't need anything. They are greased at the factory and should last on that grease for a long time. Then replace them or toss the reel. Oil or grease on the worm gear. Oil on the shaft above it. Oil on each end of the spool shaft.

The water trick has been around for 40 years that I know about. My grandfather told me that in the 80's. Old tricks for old men 🧐 good video. Do like Lew's my son told me to try them out good reel's and pole's. Good flex when I need it nad smooth reeling on cheeper combo's two to just try out.

I love lews, they are my favorite brand and I highly recommend them, if you looking for a cheaper baitcaster the lews classic pro is amazing

Hopefully lews is better then the last baitcaster I got it broke within a couple months but lews has some nice rod and reels so I’m confident

Ditch the Lucas oil and use TSI 321 instead. TSI bonds to the metal and creates an ultra slick surface that will be impervious to water. It also stays put for quite a long time, 1 to 2 years is about the norm. For spool bearings, I like to remove the shields, clean with acetone, and soak in a solution of 8 parts 99% isopropyl alcohol and 1 part TSI 321. Once out of the solution, I spin to check for smoothness and blow out all the excess with compressed air. The alcohol acts as a carrying agent and quickly evaporates away. Additionally, Yamaha marine grease is best used on the gears and frame bearings, it doesn't emulsify like most other greases and stays put. Finally, a light coating of silicone grease such as Cal's tan or purple to finish off the drag and give it an unbelievably smooth startup. Lastly, if you have a rotary tool and some polishing pads, polish the brake ring and spool shaft ends to a mirror shine, this will aid in free spool and give the brakes a smoother surface to ride, thus making the brakes more consistent. Most "reel specific" products are pretty much relabeled down market lubricants to increase market exposure and move product. There are many more off the shelf products that are cheaper and far superior to the snake oil peddled by tackle manufacturers.

What causes my reel to be tougher to reel in the tighter I make the drag? About 8 months old & caught a lot of Redfish. It's a Lew's SP but I'm sure whatever is wrong, applies to most baitcasters. Thanx

Will the oil and grease work on most baitcaster reels? I also understand, you said spinning reels use a different oil and grease?

Im in the process of breaking down all of my 20+ reels and de greasing and re lubing. I have got a few done with the superduty grease, oil and spees break oil and i can actually tell a difference than products ive used in the past. That grease makes it buttery on the retrive and the oil provide steady speed witbout. Couldnt be happier.

So I'm going to buy the oil and there's 2 different ones. One's hyper and the other ones a blend. Which one is actually better to buy? I don't wanna buy both, thank you.
@TexasPapa13

But the super duty. It lasts longer and holds up better. Higher viscosity.

I clean up my reels about 3 times a year even brand new ones go open them up and see what is not oiled and greased if not give them a lube if dry. I've been using slip 2,000 on my fishing equipment seems to work fine
@bryceweaver01

So lews recommends oil on the worm gear, not grease?
@HATINTHEKAT
@HATINTHEKAT 3 года назад
A thick oil is better, grease will work, but grease can trap contaminants and crap in the worm gear causing excess wear and tear and grittiness and other problems, a thin oil is good but flushed out quickly, but a thicker viscosity oil, preferably one with corrosion resistant properties if using in salt water, is ideal because wit won’t trap stuff in the worm gear and it will lubricate it very well and stay in the worm gear longer, therefore protecting it longer, and if stuff does get in there it’s easy to flush out with paper towel wipedowns and re oiling,
@TexasPapa13
@TexasPapa13 7 месяцев назад
That was the first thing I caught. Was always told grease on the worm gear

What causes reel squeal on a bait caster and how do you fix it?
@HATINTHEKAT
@HATINTHEKAT 3 года назад
Depends on where and when it’s squealing, if it’s screaming during the cast it means your spool bearings are dry and need oiling, and most likely they are already at least slightly damaged from being run at high speed while dry, if it’s squeaking or making noise during the retrieve it could be either the handles need a drop of oil in the joint, or the pinion bearing,if there is one, needs a drop of oil then wipe excess oil off and out, or the pinion gear could have grit or contaminants in it and needs cleanings and light greasing, or it’s just dry and needs a light greasing, or your worm gear could be dry or contaminated and needs cleaning and oiling, those are just the common fixes
@brianwelch2554
@brianwelch2554 3 года назад
There is also a metal shady that rolls on the bearings inside the crank handle housing. Make sure it's clean, lubricated and rust/corrosion free. I dropped mine in salt water and this was the culprit after cleaning.

Just bought a Lews American Hero baitcaster combo a week ago and only used it a few times. I was using it today and the thumb bar wasn't going down at times. I would press it and it would get stuck halfway. Some it did it, sometimes it didn't. Any idea why it's doing this?
@scottwhitefishing
@scottwhitefishing 2 года назад
There are springs inside the reel that operate the clutch of the thumb press. They might be worn or bent.
