Sorry,@@danielholmberg1875, but there are strange people like me who look at the description, then download the pattern and use leather, tools, thread, needles and dye in order to make these leather goods themselves... but just looking at the video while listening to the music is fine also! 👍👍👍
Think I've watched this video about a dozen times now. So soothing to watch and be inspired. Finally made one using your pattern and I absolutely love it. Thank you for sharing your craft with us Hahn!
Another great inspirational video hahns. A step was missed for those following along. It’s useful to note that the tracing of the square hole that was cut in the stencil will be used again. I used it to mark the location off the split leather on the grain side of the outer shell before applying glue. Hahns, You have been a great resource that helps me develop new skills. Thank you and keep them coming. ✌️
Master craftsman like yourself doesn’t have to worry about any leather items being out of stock.😜 The tray with your logo is as classy as the Hermes one👍🏼👍🏼
Very nice. Going to make this for my wife for our anniversary next week! And thank you for the Letter sized pattern. The A-4 gives me so much grief. LOL Have a great weekend.
For some reason the quick montage made me thing of Edgar Wright and Guy Ritchie who like quick routine montages :)))) But honestly I'm sitting and being amazed. It smells like luxury.
Back nearly 20 years ago a British guy called Jay Cousins brought out a very similar looking product called the Orikaso folding plate (for campers) - made from sheet plastic rather than leather but a darned sight cheaper than $500 and multi-functional too - you can eat your chili con carne from it and then use it to store your watch and rings overnight on the bedside table - after washing it first of course!
That is a good attempt, but you should check out an actual leather change tray from Hermes first to see how light and thin the leather is. They use 2 sheets of 0.6mm for a total of 1.2mm these are glued and the template cut out after not before. Trying to match up 2 separate sheets can be inaccurate. They use a 9 teeth pricking iron and poppers that snap together, not permanent studs.
These are my assumptions: I think he wasn't trying to make an exact replica of the Hermes tray. It's in a way a click bait. Hence he didn't stick to the same rivets/studs either. He also used the wing divided to cut the leather to be a tad bit larger than the tray he intended to make . After gluing the two sheets and the split leather in between together, he can cut both layers for cleaner edges, so he didn't really have to line both sheets perfectly to begin with.
Once again, congratulations to, and admiration for, Mr. Hahns for his video and the quality of his video. $495? I was in Florence perhaps 6 years ago and bought two of these trays (without any logo) from a very nice street market. I can’t remember exactly what I paid but it won’t have been much more than €10 or €15. Where as I can appreciate the design of much of Hermes work and accept that people do pay through the nose for the name cache, $495 is....well, congratulations to Hermes for apparently getting punters to pay that much. Come to me and I will only charge 10% of that.....
10 minutes to cut the pieces/select leather etc, 10 to glue all things togheter, 30-40 to sew along the border by hand? Lets call it one hour of work @30bucks+materials and a solid 50€ seems fair so you go with atleast abit of profit in europe/the west ? =)
I was once shopping and saw that exact tray, and thought "600$... really, its just some leather riveted on the corners. Even with high grade material, and handcraft thats not cost you more than 100$ over all. Who would buy that? I can do that myself." After seeing you, doing that thing, I am all the more confident I could do one myself. Really nice work. but those Labels are killing me with their profit margins. It's just money grabs at this point.
