Jonathan Cineus actually the costume designer had made an historically accurate dress but Emma refused to wear it and had it changed just like she refused to wear corsets

It's Jakia Everyone thought Emma was a great choice at first but her harsh political stance on creative decisions (and her bland acting) exposed her as the biggest problem with this movie.

To be fair it sounds like they had their hearts set on Emma Watson to be Belle and she might have possibly twisted their arms to let her make a lot of the creative decisions. However it happened they ended up letting her make decisions not only with the dress, but even with the story. Honestly, they made a huge mistake letting the actress do anything but act. That girl is 👏UN👏ED👏U👏CAT👏ED👏 when it comes to corsets and it drives me nuts!! 🙄 Almost right at the beginning of this video, it’s even mentioned how one of the main purposes of corsets back then was to evenly distribute the weight in a way that all of those heavy, extravagant skirts were comfortably supported on the body. The fact that she refused to wear a corset completely tied their hands at creating an accurate Belle dress. So tragic, and all as a result of her ignorance. Edit: Maybe you already knew all that I just realized, lol 😂 But as you can probably tell I had some feelings to get out on the subject haha

@@proggaparomita281 Thank you so much! Rachel is correct about the corset thing though. They weren't torture devices as we like to believe. They more like a bra, back brace and support garment all in one! These skirts are HEAVY and all that weight sitting on your waist and hips HURTS so the corset simply protect the body.

@@rachelwharton4245 You are correct! I am in fact wearing the corset I made in my corset making series, to support the weight of the skirts I'm wearing! Now I do tight lace in my daily life because I love the look of tiny waists but I've also been wearing them for almost 10 years and only go as far as is comfortable for me. @@nikkiblackwelll well said! I knew that because my mom told me how a corset saved her from having a massive back pain during her own wedding. She had a huge dress and had to be up and dancing all night in it so a corset was seriously a life saver for her

You did EVERYTHING RIGHT with this dress! -the gold touches -layers of yellow/gold tones -that old/nostalgic feeling when you see the dress (which is amazing especially because the time period BATB was in) -how fluffy and satisfying the dress flows -you made the dress huge but not too big that it looks uncomfortable -not boring -jaw dropping and beautiful -how the fabric is placed to look like the dress belle wore -and overall just amazing!!! Literally every single dress made by ‘amateur’ costumers and clothes makers is better than the professionally created, multi-million-dollar production funded, Disney-sanctioned mess pretending to be an iconic ball gown. HOWEVER: I also think that at large the blame for that mess pretending to be an iconic ball gown falls on the uninformed woman who wore it. Dresses of this caliber need structure and support, and seeing as Emma refused to wear any types of structural support garments (ie a very basic, modern corset), making a proper, functioning dress was nearly impossible.

Exactly! And her reasoning was just that it "supported" unrealistic beauty standards. NO IT DIDN'T. It gave the dress support to keep the wearer's back from breaking over the weight! It's support to save your back from breaking over the weight of the dress! I swear Emma needs to get her facts right. It's dress support, not "supporting" unrealistic beauty standards. I love Emma because of Harry Potter, but definitely not from Beauty and the Beast

With all the same comments we van all agree that this is how the dress should have looked in the newer beauty and the beast. Not only does it look.exactly like bells animated dress it also seems historically accurate. Along with corsets most dresses of royals had huge hoops that gave their dresses volume. And the fact that its made mostly of lace is another positive. You really did your homework. Keep up your wonderful creativity and show.it to the world.

I just can't wrap my head around the fact that Emma Watson just pushed away the once in life time chance of wearing this sort of beautiful Belle's dress in a live action movie and just went with casual prom dress.🤷🏻‍♀🥴🤯 Your dress is just fabulous.I never thought I would live up to see someone recreate this dress on point, may be even better than that. I understand that you think her comment was disrespectful to everyone who put effort into the remake and the dress in the remake, but there were a lot of serious problems with not only the design of the dress itself, but also who had say in what the dress looked like. Emma Watson *refused* to wear a corset, and the director pushed the designer to comply to her wishes even though the designer disagreed (and knew her way around historically accurate pieces). Also, the designer didn’t really have much say in the final piece at all, since the director insisted that the final design be based off a drawing done by his daughter. That seems more disrespectful to the designer than the comments here. Could Cupcake Queen have said it nicer? Yeah, probably. The overall shape and material of the movie dress make it look more like a prom dress than anything vaguely resembles 19th-century century dress. I'm so glad that this dress is made from quality fabrics with vibrant, elegant, and sparkly design with a silhouette that actually looks like something from the 18 hundreds.

this is the video that made me subscribe: I've been looking for a detailed ball gown tutorial for AGES (not the petticoat but the actual dress) for my Princess Tiana cosplay and although this is a Belle tutorial the foundation is exactly what I need (ball gown base and bodice) I'll be checking out your bodice tutorial soon but in the meantime excellent work! Belle's dress in the live action movie was, yes very dissapointing, however i do not think it was entirely the designer's fault. The dresses all the side caracters wore and even the extras were gorgeous, creative and historically accurate. The whole design of Belle's dress had to be changed in very little time do to Emma Watson refusing to wear a corset as a "feminist statement". The designers probably did the best they could with what they had. A lot of statements were poorly made with no actual education and understanding behind it. The production crew did not handle the situation properly and it resulted in a disappointment in the designer field and the movie as a whole. The dress you created by yourself looks stunning and definetly could pass as the official live action Belle dress. Way better than what the producers went for in the movie.

Glad to see this tutorial! Is shows that it is possible to make a Belle's dress which matches the vision from the animated version and looks amazing in reality. The one from the 2017 movie was a disappointment. Your dress is a dream! 🥰

That's because Emma watson think that intelligent women shouldn't wear jewelry and corset, the designer have to redo the dress because she didn't want to wear it

Absolutely gorgeous. I'm going to the MNSSH Party as Belle and was making an over skirt for my dress. Seeing this inspired me to use lace and to use the pleating method instead of the gathered methods I kept seeing. Thank you!

What I really love about this dress is it fit the 1700's ballgown theme same years of the timeline of the beauty and the beast, but it still so outstanding and its beautiful details completed the dress, I also love the golden fabrics and details in the gown it really match the look. I really love the dress, keep up the good work

This dress is STUNNING! I think I would’ve worked better for beauty and the beast, but I really don’t that the one in the movie was ugly at all! I actually personally really think that the dress in the movie is gorgeous
