Instead of poking all the way through the can, make a dimple with the pin and sand the dimple to open the hole.

It's a very beautiful video. I also want to shoot videos with a pinhole lens like this. Which do you recommend, the α7s II or the α7s (1st generation)?

The A7S II is better because you get a stabilized sensor, which is essential for hand-held video work. Though I did shoot this video with the a7s, so it's possible to get okay pinhole video with that one too.

I'm doing this for a project on a Canon EOS camera. My camera won't take the picture, it is just flashing and says check sim and the shutter speed is also flashing on 30"

Make sure to shoot in full manual mode. Also you need to turn on "shoot without lens" in the menu. This will allow your camera to take pictures or video even when it can't detect a lens, which is essential when you're adapting lenses or shooting through a body cap pinhole. Let me know if this works or if you're still having issues.

Does it matter what brand of body lens cap we use? I see your using a Nex cap with your Sony camera. I have a Nikon and I found a body cap to purchase that is Nikon but I'm worried it will be too thick to drill through. Can I use the same one you use or should I stick to the same brand that my camera is?

It doesn't matter what brand you use, it just has to be able to mount onto your camera. If you want to use the brand I used, which was a Fotodiox one, here's the link: fotodioxpro.com/products/cap-body-nikon-color Make sure to get the black one because the colored ones will leak light. Also, I'd recommend putting the metal with the pinhole on the inside of the cap when you do the build. I did it on the outside in this video and it doesn't work as well.

You must use the same brand because your camera knows exactly what type of plastic and what shape it is. It will refuse to work if you use anything else.

My camera doesn't allow a body cap to be a lens and it says "lens not attached" when I try to use it.

What camera are you using? It should have a setting to "shoot without lens"

One thing that I do not understand is why you need to remove the plastic and put another piece over?! Why not just make a hole in a body cap and that's it?

For a pinhole to work, it needs to be in a thin piece of material. If it's a hole in a thick piece of material, it won't work as well or at all.

If you just drill a hole on a thick plastic you'll have some vignetting on your final images

I know this is an old comment but that's the point. The resulting photos aren't supposed to be sharp.

@@jetlag1488 thans for the info, you could try to move the hole plane back closer to the sensor, more wide angle, and can use a thicker hole about 0.3mm and would be sharper but needs longer expo, no video
