How to make a Bushcraft knife with zebrano wood handle

In this episode of the Beardy Explorer I have a go at making my first full build on a bushcraft knife from start to finish. I found I chunky piece of 3mm flat bar I had already and a piece of zebrano wood which was a worktop sample that was given to me and decided to transform them into my first full build on a bushcraft knife, follow my learning journey and see how I get on with this enjoyable project.

great work man, i would recommend you do the grinding which you did with your self built construction, with a flap disk on the angle grinder, thats what i did before i purchased a belt sander to make my knives higher quality

Yeah I have done a couple more knives and used a flap disc and it worked pretty well, the fancy belt grinders are very expensive, one day hopefully, thanks for the support, very much appreciated 👍

But an easy way to make a good sheath if you can't gather the leather is with p.v.c pipe and a heat gun

Well done! What a superb job you made of this. It really is gorgeous, and I think your rsther bold move of adding the snake-skin texture paid off in spades. I'd never heard of zebrano wood snd I think it's a lovely timber.

Thanks, it turned out not to bad considering this was my first attempt at a full build, just need to have a go at being a blacksmith and we got the full process!

@@BeardyExplorer Your home made sharpening jig was a triumph! For some reason I assumed you'd need to fasten the file to the steel alignment rod, but you show that it can simply be hand-held. And you're already good at shaping side scales.

Thank you, yeah the jig worked great I thought I would need a way of fastening the file to the rod but it turns out, it wasn’t need just a fairly firm grip and lots of patience 😂

@@BeardyExplorer Ah...the patience. I'm going to come right out and confess right now that I use a grinder with a carborundum disc to rough out the lion's share of my bevels. So I've been wondering repeatedly how l o n g It must have taken you to creste that (frankly formidable) bevel. I mean, it's a thick old knife! Surely you can't have done it in a day...or did you?

I would say I did nearly 5 hours straight with the file work, the entire knife took 3 days but jumping on and off it between family duties
