That, I think, is very much underrated. By the time the 'tutorial/ episode' is over, you so irritated by the (frequent) irritating music, that you do not want to watch it any more,or anything else on that channel.

Great video! Just a tip I've seen elsewhere for those cheap bristle brushes, if you super glue the bristles by the metal part you won't have any strands fall out anymore. Hope it helps!

This is great. You should consider putting a linear way guide on both sides of your table. You might even be able to get away with angle iron or a box tube. It will be faster and give you a nice straight edge without thinking. If you want you can even set it up with a CNC length input.

Looks to me like a kitchen roller, like you use for flattening dough would work well for this.

If you want to prevent the pin holes on the surface you can pre-wet the fabric before putting it on the surface.

I'm loving this channel and hatching a plan to start doing my own interior panels for my car's interior. I really think a matte finish would look even better however. I've just done some reading and seen people suggest either sanding the gloss finish back or applying a matte clear coat. Do you have any go to methods for a matte or satin finish?

It's fantastic! At the last step, you used a small roller to work out the air bubbles. Would you kindly tell me what kind roller it is? Does that roller have needles to pierce air bubbles? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

@@briansexton6695 some sort of foam. Maybe a honeycomb would do well. Balsa wood is a decent cheap option. It’s really up to you.

Great video. However, I have a question, can you set screws into the epoxy/fiber to install onto aluminum parts? Or will the epoxy adhere to aluminum? I'm making a box for my H-D trike that looks like a 32 Ford coupe, but instead of a trunk or rumble seat, I'm doing an aluminum roll up door, like a roll top desk, and need a way to attach the frame without seeing the fasters. Thanks

Bro, you make this look so damn simple but I've had issues in the past. Granted my first attempt had crevices and bends but I was attempting to lay CF over a dash bezel. I failed lol

If you arent getting a good carbon-to-epoxy ratio doing wet layup then you simply need practice. Too many people use vacuum bagging as a crutch to being crappy at laminating. A good way to practice is laminate with fiberglass cloth. You will be better able to see sections that are too heavy or too light and with time develop a feel for it. When done right it should have a very consistent canvas like look.

Did the oven get out air bubbles? Ive heard of people using a heat gun or torch to get out bubbles. A close up of the finished product would have been cool. Fantastic video!

If you wanted the top side to have a glossy finish as well. Would you just use a non porous teflon coated peel ply on top?

Have you experimented with resins that come close to a heat source? Like a exhaust cover or a high heat area of the engine bay. If so can you recommend a resin what will handle those high heat cycles. Great vids!!

Yes, sort of. I have some intake tubes on the cold side of my turbos and intercooler end tanks. All done with basic epoxy. Never tinkered with specific high heat stuff tho.

i build a lot of carbon wings for drag car always wet lay never vacuum bag. i clear gel first . everyone say we build the best carbon wing. do you ever use carbon with weave stabilization ? i like it for the first layer

Hey AJ, love your videos! For a DIY guy like myself, would you recommend doing wet lay with curved and more complex molds? Or at that point would pooling of the resin be too much of an issue affecting strength and weight.

Wet lay on curved stuff, or anything with tight corners is a pain. I’d only try it if it was your only option.

So do you ever use prepreg material? I find it much easier to work with but it does have a short shelf life if you dont have a proper storage freezer

Thanks for the video. Any problem with using a non shed mini roller for application of the epoxy? Come from a paint background and Wooster makes a nice 5/16 nap micro fiber roller that doesn’t shed and is not too expensive. Couple bucks a piece.

I’m looking to try do some car wheels Will sand blast it first and may add sand grit in the base coat to help stick Going to skin it and put in a vacuum pack to help stick. Have you seen anyone do this or know of any problems

About .040”. Vac will be about .035”. I get into vacuum bagging in the next one and will be up in a few days.

Good explanation. But when ever working with fiber fabrics you should use gloves when touching the fibercloth to prevent leaving grease from your hand on the cloth. It provides you with a better final product.

Do you ever use lantor soric in wet lay? I’ve been playing with in on small pieces with some luck. Vacuum infusion is beyond my current level of patience

I’ve seen people use it with wet lay but personally have not. I only use it with infusions.

I’ve got some floor panels in my airplane that are roughly 1/4” thick plywood. I’d love to replace them with some carbon fiber panels. Would a wet lay work well for a 1/4” thick panel? Would I be better off to vacuum bag the panel? Thanks

AJ, it can be confusing when you speak of Tow size 4,6,10 k etc instead of aerial weight Oz/yd2 or gr/m2 to describe your CF fabrics

Hey, on a resin infusion for a new edge hood, how much epoxy do you use for the inside skin and outside skin? I’m about to make my first attempt and I’m worried I might not buy enough, although it’s expensive 😅

I've worked with E-glass for decades, but with carbon fiber, it's not transparent when wetted out. So how do you know where the bubbles are that need stripling out to the sides?

Very good it’s definitely an art to make parts lol. Tell people it’s best to use epoxy resin for carbon fibre weave and not the polyester resin with cat mix. That’s a pain
