Great job! I wished RU-vid and such great terrain building RU-vidrs had been existed as I started with Warhammer Fantasy at the end of the 90s. I worked with cardboard, but it definitely looked like carboard. I was so happy as I could bought a big foam board sheet to create some nice looking buildings. But it was quite expensive. I'm really impressed how cardboard terrain can look like. I will definitely make this cart. The only point that bothers me is the thickness of the wheels. Maybe I use more cardboard layers. If the edges sucks I have to cover them with some cardboard to simulate a metal ring.
For thicker wheels I would definitely try just making them twice as thick, cutting out twice as many circles and gluing them together. I feel the same about my early terrain days!
I'm with you on all of this, and I'm going to try this technique soon, along with making the wheels thicker, maybe adding a thin piece of foam board core in between two layers of single sided textured cardstock. That way the foam could form a batted steel rim!
What an amazing tutorial, this has been so helpful!! I'm starting building terrain myself and I have followed your tutorial step by step. Very happy with the results. Your tips on wood textures are out of this world, I wish I could share with you some photos og the results! 😄
I appreciate your comments so much! I would love to see! If you have an instagram you can feel free to add me and tag me in a post or dm them instagram.com/selrahcmoonandstar/ I am also in a lot of crafting facebook groups and you can always post, friend, or tag me there too - Magick Selrahc
Perfect timing! I just finished up making a copy of your shack and now have this great inspiration to use for a mine cart scatter terrain (my scenario is set in a decrepit mining settlement). Thank you so much!
I’m just getting into war gaming and was appalled at the cost of terrain. This is cool so thanks. I didn’t think the cardboard could take all the painting without softening and getting warped
The cost can be unbelievable at times, another reason why I try to make my crafts accessible and with minimal cost I think the base coat being a 50/50 mix of black paint and matte Mod Podge helps a lot with the durability.
Really well done! I was hoping you would be making some vids exploring your wood texture style. Great content building vid too. I will be using this style in some of my future builds. I don't play in this scale. It's too small for my eyes. lol I play in larger 1/18 and 1/9 scales. I can easily see how I can scale up this style for my builds. Again, thank you for the vid. Please continue the great work.
That is an excellent question haha, I have no idea! Whatever frozen food packaging tends to be made of, is what I use. This is a great question though because I was intending to make a somewhat in-depth video on "What is Cardboard?" and discuss the different types. I'll have to look into this and shoutout your question when I make that one! I appreciate your comments and questions so much, never hesitate to ask!
