My second Pi just came in and I cannot wait to try this tutorial! Fingers crossed. I am using my two VERY 100 FT Long Ethernet cables plugged into the same router for this experiment, my 24 port ethernet switch comes in, in about 4 days so I am definitely excited! I want to make this project for my school - just to represent the fact that I love computer related stuff for no reason. Of course I will find a way to utilize this cluster once I have made it on a bigger scale :) Thanks tinker!

since this is supposed to be a tutorial, it would be nice if the commands you typed were on the screen for more than a split second. That being said, I used this tutorial and got it to work, so thanks for posting!

I can't imagine this would be cost effective when stacked against a normal computer for processing power and efficiency. Sure you have more cores, but are those cores going to outpace something with one forth the number but several times the power?

Can you make this with err, network boot? all clients share the same imortent files.. that needs to be loaded. (loads into ram)

dude i have doubt, one of my friend is making this super computer using Raspberry Pi 3 Cluster and he is installing Raspbian Jessie image as os which is of debian family, but i have this question should we buy a new monitor to use this os by the raspberry super computer orelse can we use it as virtual machine

I have my pi setup to where it is a ftp and it can download torrents of i wish to do so. (Mainly seeding raspbian image atm) If i download cpu (clocked 1050mhz) runs 100% so i was wondering if hooking a second Rpi would make it faster. Main reason why asking: communication between pi's goes over ethernet so that might form a bottleneck i guess?

Hi! I am an indie filmmaker and tech enthusiast and I've been reading a lot about raspberry PI clusters. I was wondering if you'd be able to help me. I'd like to use it for large file processing, such as rendering 3D vídeo on blendr and generating dcp files. Is that possible? Also, I have a couple of secondary questions that I hope you'd be able to help me with: 1- Can I use it also as a "regular PC"? I'd like to run Ubuntu on it 2- How would I plug it to a monitor? If there's multiple boards, can I control all of them from a single screen? And combine their forces for a single activity? 3- Do I have to use identical boards or can I get different PI models? any changes with the new Raspbien Stretch image?

If I'm not hard of hearing you said that Raspbian can fit onto a 4GB SD card. However when I tried to write to the SD card I have i was prompted with the error saying that there was not enough space and I found that Raspian was just over 4 GB. Anyone have a fix for this, and i notice that when compressed its 1.4 GB but i cant write when its compressed.

There is no package manager on raspbian? It could simplify the installation of mpi, etc.

what if you create a Raspberry pi 3 cluster using 8 pis then the computing performance would increase. then lets say you virtually emulate an OS in it , then can you run x86 games in the virtual machine at max settings ?

i have a problem after sending all of the ssh keys to pi01 and all the other have pi01's key(all in authorised keys file) i run the program and i get an error it authenticates pi01 but then prinmt ssh_askpass exec(/usr/bin/ssh-askpass) no such file or directory permission denied please try again. None of the ssh keys were created with a password and i have tried this with new keys same result

Is it possible to use one HD for them all? The only problem was the computer name. They would all be named "pi01". But if you could manipulate the code of the OS. e.g: String ip = getIP(); //how do you get the IP of your pi? String number = ip.charAt(12); //last number of IP-address setSystemName("pi0"+number"); But actually i think that would name all the PIs after the one that has executet the code last. Don't know.. actually it must do that, cause the System-name is written in a text file. But Couldn't you just use both, and HD and SD, so the System-name is stored in the PIs' individual SD and the OS on the HD just tellst them to e.g. use the name stored in e.g "SD:/pi-name.txt/"? Plz tell me your opinion, wether you think something like this could work! :) PS: nice video! You just got a new subscriber ^^
