www.howdini.com/howdini-video-... How to make a cosmopolitan - Cosmopolitan drink recipe A perfect cosmopolitan is a must at any cocktail party. Mixologist Allen Katz shares his technique for mixing the perfect cosmo.
A lot of people here keeps saying it needs more cranberry juice, but the cranberry is really to give color. Cosmo is supposed to be pink not red, a bit sour and strong.
It’s supposed to taste how people choose and prefer it to taste. There is no one way. Also cranberry juice is most certainly not just to add colour. It is fundamental to the overall taste and complexity of flavour of this drink.
Surely that's too much vodka haha I make it to fit a margarita glass at about 360ml 35ml - Vodka 15ml - Cointreau 25ml - cranberry juice 25ml - Lime (squeezed) All put in a shaker with 5-7 cubes and dumped right into the glass. Each to their own I suppose! This though is my favourite method. TRY IT
It is easier to multiply the recipe that way if you are having a party or get together. HTH. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! ;)
I'm a beginner at making cocktails and I love cosmos, I'd like to make one. I have Cointreau, lime cordial , cranberry juice and supermarket standard Vodka. I've noticed that it the ingredients of a cosmo seems to vary a lot, would you be able to tell me if the stuff I've got would work in roughly the same measurements you've provided? Is the cordial an appropriate substitute for fresh lime juice?
@NeatStar Yeh, when he said "1 part = 1 ounce" I knew something was wrong. That means he started this drink with 75mls of vodka. That seems an awful lot. The Cosmopolitan, in my view, should be a tasty and refreshing drink for a pleasant afternoon, not something that gets you minced superfast. Or maybe I'm just a lightweight... Anyway, I say: Citrus vodka (you can make this at home): 1 & 1/2 oz Cranberry juice: 1 oz Cointreau/Triple sec: 1/2 oz Lime Juice: 1/2 oz Taste it!
Nicely done Alan. You're a gentleman's bartender. If I end up like Jack Nicholson in The Shining - I'd want you tending the bar. May I go ahead and call you Lloyd?
Best Cosmo I've ever had was a few years ago at the cosmopolitan in las Vegas, garnished with small cranberries. I've tried it multiple times since I've been back and it was never the same. Wish I knew who that bar tender was. One of those unforgettable cocktails miments .
@MrDeverill it's a little late but I just got ur comment, thanks for the tip but I gave it all up, I was supposed to make my friends "great" cosmos (they're featured in Sex And The City) but I ended up making some very basic vodka/orange juice "cocktails" LOL
First of all I would garnish with a orange peel, where you first burst all the orangeoil out on top of it, with help from a lighter! In this way you highlight the aroma from the Cointreau/Grand Manier or whatever you use. Second of all: Always fine-strain a cosmo, to catch all the lime flesh - looks better.
I use to be a bartender and this is different then the way I was taught to make a cosmopolitan. The way I was taught there was no patron citronage and instead we used triple-sec for sweetness and everything else was more or less the same. I know that there are different variations of every drink and I do not doubt that this version tastes great.
@terratrema Thanks for that! i'm trying to do up the new cocktail list for my bar and was watching this and thinking....those measurments are illegal to serve at a licensed venue...
Wooow!! One Of the best Cosmo I've ever drink . Allen you're awesome!! Tnank you so much for such simple yet sophisticated recipe for this Cosmo.. and... Are you single? ...💓 Omg you're gorgeous.🌹💓💓💓
I'm a newbie and I just bought a small bar set or rather small mixology set. I looked up this strength to see how to make it for the first time and it's so confusing when you use the word part. I see you're using a jigger and I think a jigger is an ounce? Now there's a third term called part is a part also 1 oz?
Did you know the cosmo was invented in the Windows of the World Restaurant on top of the original One World Trade Center? It was the house drink! Absolutely true!
19 seems a lot , think it is between 10-12cl mostly ,of course there are a lot of different ones out there. a dry Martini according to IBA standard is 6 cl gin + 1cl of dry vermouth so the glass would be less then half
Great resource, very fluid and appealing. Though he dilutes the drinks too much by shaking so vigorously or creating huge ice baths and stirring them for "30" seconds.
because being consistent is important, and you can never get a perfect measure every time doing that, you will NEVER walk into a high end bar or lounge and see free pouring, you only see that in cheaper busy neighbourhood bars and night clubs where the aim is quantity not quality
