If a commercially tested N95 masks are unavailable this is better than paper masks, however fit is extremely important. It must be a very tight fit with no leakage to actually protect. Perhaps You could enclose a small strip of tin over bridge of nose to mold and ensure tight fit. Don't forget goggles too are important for protection as coronavirus can attach to any mucous membrane including eyes. God protect us all!

A lot of face mask protection is about you not infecting yourself when touching things and then transferring to your eyes,nose or mouth.

I have a wonderful idea to share here.........You might not have lycra, but I had a lots of left over pieces, so I cut stretchy strips and was knotting them to make ties to sort out my lace, fabric, craft things and more to keep from using rubber bands that decay....... I noticed that when I tied the knots that the lycra rolls up very pretty and is very soft and real stretchy.......my friend used one in her mask, since JoAnn's was out of elastic........and it works better and is lots more comfortable and lasting........I ordered lycra online a long time ago......I would say a grey or white is best. I hope this helps some of you out there giving so much of yourselves during this crisis.......(Also you can cut the strips with a rotary cutter).

Thanks for upload. I just made four mask I used a fleece blanket for one layer and two layers from a cotton shirt for two of them . The other two is two layers and a filter pocket. Some protection is better than nothing at all. I used a N95 mask for my pattern.😊

For those asking about the fabric used , I researched it and found it is a 100% lightweight cotton. I kept thinking , how can I breathe through 8 layers of cotton ? It is only 4 layers because she cuts on the fold so 4 layers of light weight cotton should be just fine.

Nice mask to have on hand when proper masks are hard to come by. The only thing I would add is a pair of glasses to protect your eyes from exposure and gloves to keep it off your hands while out in public and alot of handwashing and surface disinfecting like bottles or packaging you buy. Because it's spread by droplets from someone's mouth, nose or eyes I'm guessing sweat, blood, urine and any other fluid that comes from the body also so preventing your exposure to droplets floating in the air or that have falling on surfaces or just contaminated surfaces that people are known to touch and then touching your own mouth, nose or eyes would be unsafe, it's necessary to be totally safe and doing as much prevention as you can to protect yourself and your family, especially if there's other people acting careless out in the public.

You can sew a rectangular pocket on the inside and insert some filtration material such as an air filter for additional protection. I know that is not the same as an N95 mask...which are not readily available but I think it s better than nothing PROVIDING a you know how to Correctly don and remove a mask....otherwise you may be contaminating yourself with the mask

So just where did the original mask that was used at the template come from? This should have shown how that original mask was made: how to decide the length and height of the mask, as well as what angles to cut on the sides. We are not all the same size.

Coronavirus is about 120nanometers across, so it will get through this design of mask, no trouble. Sorry to say. 0.3microns is 300 manometers But we can catch the droplets this way, which are much larger.

I see you used an existing cloth mask as a template. How do we cut the cloth if we do not have a template?
