How to Make A Custom Flightcase for Anything.

In this video I show you the basic principles of making a custom flightcase for your precious cargo. From choice of materials to accessories and then building an example case for two HDMI screens.
Making a case to size lets you decide exactly how large or small it needs to be and what functionality you need in it. This can be a Pc Case, a screen case or just a strong box to keep stuff in.
I hope it can help you if you plan to make one yourself and let me know if you do make a case.

@@ProjectsandThingsI still have to make it. I went "on the road" as test this weekend and found me needing a properly sized flight case for two synthesizers and a mixer. I bought a disco bar box, but it takes two people to lift it...when empty. Too big, too heavy. 🙂
@ProjectsandThings
@ProjectsandThings 4 месяца назад
@@melissarainchild I found that 4 small flightscases for my gear works best. I can carry each case solo and do not need a van to transport my videogear to jobs. If and when I add to the collection of mixers and screens I’ll add another “small” case to the stack :) good luck with the build. If you get round to making them I’d love to see a picture of the final result. My email is ok the contact page of the channel. YT won’t allow me to write it here.

That's a really nice idea for screens, having them face each other like that... But the back door is incredibly ugly, I couldn't use that, that would bother me so much :D You should have also used the aluminium extrusions for that or there are even pre-made doors for flight cases, like Adam Hall 87600/87601/87602, that you just rivet in... I'll probably build something similar for myself, as I can never have enough screens :D
@ProjectsandThings
@ProjectsandThings 11 месяцев назад
Thank you. I’ve learned that those doorflaps exist, since building the cases. But now I love my janky back-door solution even more. I think that if they would function poorly, that would bother people way more during use then the looks. But to each their own :) thank you for the tip about Adam Hall!

Thanks for the lesson in making cases. can you provide the source of materials that you discussed? also at 8:57 in the video i saw that a pop rivet wasn't seated well, how do you correct for that if it happens, do you use plyers or a hammer to correct a pop rivet that didn't go in all the way?
@ProjectsandThings
@ProjectsandThings 4 месяца назад
Hi Mike, you’re welcome! For me here locally in Belgium, the supplier is called flightcaseBrico. The best option is to google around for “flightcase parts” or “easy case parts” those are the lighter and thinner materials for smaller cases. Like 7mm plastic sheets and plastic easy-case corners for example. For the rivet I usually drill it out and re-do it if I notice the bad seating (sometimes I clearly miss it) i have been able to fix one or two with the gas type pliers. But quite often they are in spots that are too hard to reach so I end up just redoing it. Hope that helps sir!

What size rivets do you use if you are putting handles on 1/4" laminated plywood?
@ProjectsandThings
@ProjectsandThings 2 года назад
Hej John. On the parts where the handles sit on top of the aluminum rails I used 9.5mm rivets, since they don’t go all the way through. They just penetrate one level of that alu rail and bunch up between the 2 layers. When going though the handle and the plywood I used 12mm rivets

As un Upgrade idea You culd use a PatchPanel with weather Proof Connector so you dont need to Cut a Big Opening in the back
@ProjectsandThings
@ProjectsandThings 6 месяцев назад
true, I have thought about doing exactly that. But since building the case with hilariously badly cut out doors, I'm using the space behind the screens to stash Headphones and headsets that did not fit anywhere else. But your tip is very valid, If I build another case like this I will for sure go with a patch panel.

@ProjectsandThings
@ProjectsandThings Год назад
Hej dr. Pepper. Laminating your own is tricky and seems hardly cost effective. The fact that most places that sell parts for these sell both brich ply and plastic in 7mm and 10mm thicknesses, each finished in black with a hard shell, seems a good deal to me :) 7mil for small cases like mine and 10mil for bigass heavy rolling flightcasea
@DrPepperZZZ
@DrPepperZZZ Год назад
@ProjectsandThings Thanks PaT. The first 3-4 boxes I want to build aren't that big so it might be worth laminating myself. Bigger would be a pita. I'll have to look at pricing. I know BB comes in 6 and 9mm so the laminate must be 1mm. Good to know those are the common sizes.
