If you are like me, you sometimes ask yourself, is it possible to make a strange dating sim without dumping hours upon hours of time and learning a brand new complex software?
Well luckily for us both the answer is apparently yes.
Today I will be covering how to make your own dating sims using Godot Engine and Dialogic both of which are free, so with no more delay lets get right into this.

I was planning to do a visual novel with Unity, but with the current events... not a chance. I'll give a chance to godot and I'm looking around for resources. I can't believe this addon is free. This is amazing. Thank you so much for this video!

Thanks for the info! I always wanted to make somewhat of a mix between Visual novel and RPG (kinda like old solo-adventure books) but was struggling to find proper tools to make that happen, as most visual novel engines aren't made for mixing them with RPG mechanics.

Very cool to have this tutorial. Will you be making any more in depth tutorials? Perhaps for Godot4 with Dialogic 2? Also, I prefer my choices to appear at the bottom within the dialogue box with a scroll option if there's lots of choices. Is there a way to modify the UI with Dialogic?

I may make future tutorials if I figure out any tricks (currently at the moment I haven’t switched from 1->2) There may be a way to modify the UI however I don’t know of any, if I learn of any I’ll let you know!

How do I make dialogic keep running while the game is paused? I've been to all dialogic scenes and put it in the process always option and it didn't work, it kept pausing.

hello, very nice tutorial and a very helpful plugin! especially since i'm an artist and game designer who can't code a line to save my life however, i encountered many issues: 1. sometimes when i edit characters, my edit would just disappear when i move on to other things (other characters/timelines/theme etc) 2. i can't undo/redo anything, i mean anything 3. same thing with save/load. the project autosaves seemingly, and likewise i can't load to my previous save file if let's say i made a mistake or something am i doing anything wrong? or is this a known issue for godot/dialogic? i'm using godot 3.5.1 and dialogic 1.5 btw

I'm have no background in coding and very little experience with dialogic, but for my game I want to have a buddy system where dialogue changes based on who the player selects as their partner. Can that be done through dialogic or will that require coding for the game to remember who the player has picked as their partner?

Sorry if this question seems stupid but I am completely new to programming and such and have just began learning Godot. I am planning to make a visual novel which this video was helpful with introducing Dialogic but I was wondering if/how I would be able to add cutscenes to the VN? For instance like Danganronpa execution scenes.

I tried loading this into Godot 4.0 but there are a lot of errors. I fixed many of them just by replacing "tool" with "@tool" but some are a lot harder to fix for someone who is new to gdscript like me.

There is commands in Dialogic that handle it. There is no necessary code on your half only there Dialogic Commands

Can we add deep/machine learning in the dialogue? Like neural network model (that has trained with dataset of character stat and what ending it will get) to determines which endingcharacter will get based on the stats they collect?

I am sorry, I just have this controllable urge to point out all AI image every time I randomly see one. The woman with helmet on the left is AI, while the right is made by imperfect artist(s). The left woman has a strange orange stain near her right eyes, and the AI seems to confuse the ear and hair, and AI can't seem to decide if the 3 grey dots on the bottom of her helmet is concave or convex, and it looks like she has 2 pairs of eyebrows. Woman on the right is a made by human artist who stressed too much drawing eyelashes and the detail on the ear auricle., then wrap everything up with a very nice shading and texture. I do hope the shading/texturing part isn't AI, but if it is so, the woman on the right still count as human creation, AI assist or not. I am sorry, I am learning how to make a game of my own, but I got distracted by the thumbnails already.

It's not showing up in plugins... Edit: I got it to show up, but now it says "Unable to load addon script from path: 'res://addons/dialogic/plugin.gd'. This might be due to a code error in that script. Disabling the addon at 'res://addons/dialogic/plugin.cfg' to prevent further errors."

yeah and nobody else having this issue or bringing it up.. typical game dev bullcrap. You follow the tutorial but the plugins get updated than nothing works. :/

I managed to get by this by using dreams godot version. However, godot was still acting funny claiming the .gd files couldn't be parsed. However I was able to enable and make visual novels. The video is good. But you will deal with typical game dev bs. For example, making new characters seems to be more of a hassle than what it's worth.

Don't worry, It hasn't been updated in two years. It's not your fault, at least you found out sooner. That's why I hate tutorial that shill plugins. It's always some programmers passion project, and they just move on. Better served by just finding out how to everything manually. Which isn't that hard really. plenty of tutorials on that. You just gotta exit out as quickly as you here "Download this plugin".
