Thanks for the video. I’d been wondering what sort to get and this one looks great. Just bought all the stuff to make one. Looks fairly straightforward so I hope by tomorrow night I’ll be sticking flying geese to my very own design wall.

I love your design wall. I was going to make one with flannel covering some foam co. But I like the idea of being able to pin the squares onto the wall too. I’ve been watching Kates channel for quite a while now. I’ve learned a lot from her! Thanks for showing us your design wall!

My quilt wall is made of a plastic table cloth. The plastic one that has felt on the one side. I just stapled it to the wall. I used 2.

That looks great. I have a large dry erase magnetic board that I can attach a design wall fabric to with magnets. It works okay, but not nearly as slick as what you just showed.!! Loved the giggling kids in the background!😁

I rent an apartment. Would the 3M sticky pads take paint off the wall when peeled off? I know the Command Strips don't, but I'm not sure how I would use those on this type of project. Right now I use a flannel backed plastic tablecloth hooked on a rod on two bookcases when I need a design wall. When it is not needed, or I am going to have company (my sewing room is also my living room) I roll it up and put it in a corner.
@PinCutSew
@PinCutSew Год назад
I think they would take the paint off! But I read the reviews of the sound panels and other people used command strips with success 👍🏻
@ShirleyFroidevaux
@ShirleyFroidevaux Год назад
Have any of your panels fell or come loose? I used Command Strips that hold up to 16 pounds and put them on duct tape similar to how you did the 3M squares, but the panels have been falling off, which I think it may be because of the thickness of the command strips prevents them from laying flat against the wall. So I have tried adding some extra command strips on tape as the tape is lifted from the wall due to the thickness of the strip. They have stayed up so far. As others started falling off I actually have added a Command Strip in the center of the panel and so far they are staying up. I love this and it is so easy to make but I don't want to use the 3M squares to protect my walls. Have you tried any thing that will not damage the wall?
@PinCutSew
@PinCutSew Год назад
Yes, I ended up ditching the duct tape! They stick perfectly you fine without it and I decided I’ll repair any damage to the wall later if I move rooms.
@ShirleyFroidevaux
@ShirleyFroidevaux Год назад
@@PinCutSew I am glad to know it just wasn't me. I will let you know if the Command Strips hold on to the back of the felt panel as they hold onto my wall.

All the stuff arrived today. I did exactly as you did and stuck the boards together with duct tape then hung the whole thing on the wall with command strips. 6’x6’, not the easiest thing to do on my own 😬. I agree, it’s not super sticky. I did try to rough it up a bit but maybe didn’t do it enough. Pins are fine anyway. No more clambering around on the floor and forgetting which sides to sew before I get to the sewing machine 😂

Yes! We did end up sticking it directly to the wall, the duct tape didn’t hold and wasn’t necessary.

What a fantastic idea! I may do something similar for my own design wall! Thank you for sharing! Also, I wanted to mention that I have been looking for a new sewing machine for a while. I need something that can easily sew through multiple layers of fabric and that I can use to do my own free motion quilting on. I had been looking at the Janome MC6650, but I was hesitant to purchase it. After watching your video about that machine, I decided to go with it! I ordered it and it should arrive in a few days. I am so excited to start using it! It will be my very first "high-end" sewing machine as the other two I've had was a basic $100 Singer, and a $200 Brother machine. So, this machine will be well beyond anything I've ever used. Thank you for sharing about your experience with that machine! 😁

Before we loved to our new house, I used a cheap dollar tree tablecloth because the back is felty. I tacked it to the hallway wall outside the room i sewed in. I plan to do a much nicer situation in our new house.

I used a piece of Styrofoam insulation and covered it with a plastic tablecloth with felt backing...the plastic faced to the foam so the felt is used for my design wall and taped it to the foam. $3.96 at Walmart. It works perfect for my needs. Love your channel.

Omg this is EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for! I live in Europe and we have solid concrete walls with wallpaper. What is your opinion on using nails/screws to hang it? My concern is that the sticky tape would rip up the wallpaper
@PinCutSew
@PinCutSew Год назад
My husband’s first idea was to just screw it into the wall! It would totally work. Command strips would work too, they might leave less damage.

Ooh I’m glad you asked! The duct tape was ineffective, haha, so we ditched it and just stuck them all to the wall with the 3M squares. It’s worked awesome! I use it all the time and none have come off. But, I do use pins to attach things, it’s not as adherent as flannel or batting would be.

Yes the threads drive me nuts. 🥹. But I have to deal, pick what I can. I use the backing from flannel lined table cloths. Cheap at the dollar store. Built a header, attached large black clips., and hung the tablecloth. Yep, when I run my overhead fan… the blocks drop.😔
