I just finished building the handrail on my deck ru-vid.comUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z and used this great little router to clean up the top rail before the final sanding and stain. It was light weight but packed lots of power. Either size battery didn't seem to make it top heavy and I'm a 64 yr old women so I really appreciated how easy it was to use...................... CORDLESS only way to go !!

Thanks for this. I've been planning on making a Covid-lockdown desk out of scaffold boards, only have basic power tools, (Circular saw, router, etc) don't have room (or the budget) for things like a thickness planer and was dreading having to hand sand the boards flat. Your idea will save me a ton of time and more importantly money!

for this example might have used the router to cut out the channel instead of using a jigsaw. also to prevent the jig from going sideways may opt for 90 degree support/stoppers on each end, or if you want to go full shebang do the far side a fixed stopper and the near side adjustable on a U clamp - that way you can always operate over the given width of the slab without the inconveniece of the too large span. good vid, nice and easy. 👍

Oh wow, glad you mentioned the tip of only routing in one direction. I've started looking into planing with my router since my local woodshop is closing down :( Any suggestions on a router bit? I have a 2.25HP Hitachi router. I bought a 3/8" straight cut Whiteside bit, but I think that was a mistake since it's such a small cutting diameter. Currently looking at the Magnate Bottom Cleaning bit or maybe a Whiteside Spoilboard Surfacing bit.

Great idea. Followed everything but router sled was not perfectly flat and was slightly warped. Only 3 corners out of 4 fit flat against the rails so it slightly rocked. It was the sled and not the rails. I suggest using 2 pieces of the 3/4 inch plywood glued together for the bottom. Otherwise not sure how to get perfectly flat sled base without it potentially twisting/warping.
@WalkersWoodworks
@WalkersWoodworks 3 года назад
Hmm. With the side rails that shouldn't happen unless the ply is really warped to start with.

Is taking 11/16 off one side of a 2" slab to much. Never did this before I have a level work bench, a level router sled and my slab is wedged level
