No special detail about the motor, just search for a "disco ball motor" or "mirror ball motor" Good luck and stay safe! Internal dimensions of the chamber: 66cm x 28cm x 28cm for a 4/4 violin.

Also I am very pleased you will be showing how to Varnish a violin. Perhaps you will talk about applying the ground coat as I think does this involve filling the grain of the wood so that the Varnish does not soak in to much? It would be nice to know the correct way to do this. Thank you very much for taking the time to make these videos.

Dont you need an OUTLET for the old air when blowing new air from the fan?

The door leaves enough air out but you can also drill a couple of holes if you prefere.

Kimon, Now you have been using this drying box, for three years, how is the interior wiring and plastic fan holding up, to the UV-C radiation? Is it drying and cracking yet?

The wiring shows some deterioration indeed ,on the fan I haven't noticed anything. You could put some aluminum foil over the cables and other parts to protect theme.

I believe you might need another hole near the bottom covered in screen also for some inlet air to be pulled out by the ventilator fan, or you will have a vacuum chamber! Joking aside, with no other hole, there is no way for the fan to pull cooling air through the box besides small cracks in the door.

The gaps at the door leave enough air to come out. But you can always drill a couple of extra holes.

Very nice video, one advice. Never tin the wires for 220V installation. It is not good for crimping and also not good when you put the wire under screw. Over time you will see it starts moving.

Is there any concern with vapors combusting with the fan motor I was thinking of building one but was concerned with blowing up the box with my varnished violin inside

If you buy a lamp that doesn't produce Ozone, there won't be any dangerous vapors.

I am building a drying cabinet like this one but I have one question. I have installed my vent fan and it occurred to me that this may not work.The fan is installed to bring air into the cabinet but there is no outlet for the air to exit. It seems to me that when the door is closed no air will enter the enclosed space since it has nowhere to go. I am thinking that on mine I will install some sort of vent to allow the air to flow through the box. I would really value your opinion on this before I continue.

Don't worry! The door leave enough gap that the air can go out. You could also dril a couple of small holes. And the vent doesn't have to blow very hard.

You should add an exit vent on the opposite side, otherwise no air will move through the chamber!

Hi Maestro, I believe the fan you mounted is not going to be effective in blowing clean air into the chamber as there is no outlet. You should cut a similar hole at the bottom of the chamber for it to work.

Hello Tuliang. It is effective as the dor doesn't shut hermetically. It has enough gaps to leave enough air to exit the chamber. But you could also make a couple of extra holes but be careful to keep the UV light from being visible from the outside.

fantastic Kimon!!! In same place I read the drying chamber is also used to tan the violin "in white". Is that one true?

That's true! I normally put the white instrument in the chamber for 6 to 8 hours ind it come out in a golden brown color!

mooi gebouwd! heb hier zeker inspiratie opgedaan :) maar soldeer op een draad in een schroef klem is niet zo'n goed idee, na verloop van tijd gaat het los zitten en maakt hij geen contract meer. Je kan beter adereindehulzen gebruiken of desnoods niets en gewoon de losse draad in de schroef klem stoppen

I have the same question...in my opinion the motor would be better if it was at the bottom where it would spin the violin from the endpin...

The instrument is hanging from the motor. You could also put it on the bottom but I don't know if it would be as stable. You can see it better in the next video where I'm varnishing the violin.

Good to hear that you like it. I usually leave the instrument between 6 and 8 hours. You have to see how well the lamps work.

This chamber is used to dry faster oil-based varnish. If you use that kind of varnish on your mandolines, then it could be useful for you.

Hello Martin. I know, it would look nice but it might leave a part of the UV radiation paas, and that is bad for your eyes. I don't know if glass compliantly blocks UV radiation, I prefer to go the safe way.

I'm thinking of making one, I was thinking of putting dark glass in it. if there is a UV radiation ill problem makes it all wood then. I buy a lot of very old violins that are all broking up or need a lot or some work to them, and I rebuild them ass good ass I can. I have 67 violins 3 electric violin and 3 violas. 3 cello. many of them need to be varnish. so your drying chamber looks very nice. I've looked at all of your videos and I've like looking at them. thankyou for uploading them. they gave me many tips.

6:36 "they [the motors] do 3 rpm" That's extremely slow and unlikely to move any air through a filter etc. Did you mean 3 rps?

The UVC lamp is used to accelerate the drying effect that sunlight has on the varnish. UVA and UVB could also work bat definitely slower.

Mine is 66x29x29cm but keep in mind the dimensions of the motor you use. And do you want to make violas as well? then you have to make in bigger.

This depends on the size of the viola. Add 10cm to the lower width of the viola for the Width and depth of the chamber and about 10 to 15cm to the length for the high. Keep also in mind the dimensions of the mirror-bal motor.
