I make these things all the time when I'm framing houses. Not as fancy as the one that you make though 😊 I can tell you a little trick how we make them on the job site really fast. We use whatever's lying around for stock. First you can take a piece of strapping or rip a 2-in x 8 ft long piece of three quarter to half inch plywood. You screw that cleat that's made out of either strapping or plywood about 8 inches deep on an 8-ft sheet of plywood. Then to make it really fast. All you do is take your circular saw deck put it against the cleat then run it the 8-ft length that would give you your exact cut. Then run the saw on the other side of the cleat to separate your track from the sheet of plywood. Then if you want to get real fancy with it. You flip it bottom side up. Then stick some rubberized ice and water or rolled roofing to the bottom. That way when you place it on the material you are cutting. The ice and water or rubber roofing will hold it in place.

Good video. I will be modifying my jig with the dovetail clamps that you've used. I have a suggestion: if you make your guide board parallel on your table saw and apply it to a wider sacrificial piece, you can use the other side for a router guide (very good if you want to joint wood or make dados).

2 things, you can add a cleat/ foot at the push end to guarantee that its up tightly against the cut piece. And 2, leave an extra amount on the spare wood to make a long straight edge for a router guide. Works great

I find with this type of saw guide you have to periodically move the fence back to get a fresh edge. Blade flutter and ham handedness will wear the edge back so the saw cuts proud of the edge. That messes up layout because the edge is no longer where it cuts. I start with a wider strip of thin plywood so I can clamp beyond the fence enough so the saw motor doesn’t run into them and I have plenty of material to move the fence back for a fresh edge. Mine have an aluminum fence over luan underlayment. Small flat head machine bolts up through the bottom with fender washers and wing nuts on top. Small screws held by a magnet to one washer sometimes serve instead of clamps to the back of finish work. Having the fence longer at the front end helps register the saw shoe to the fence before it enters the workpiece or chews up the leading edge of the guides base plywood.

Just found your channel, Patrick. Awesome! I've seen other saw guides like this, but not with the dovetail clamps. That makes it so much more useful. Gotta get a couple of those! Are you noticing any problems with sawdust effecting the guide? Is it worth the extra effort to chamfer the bottom of the fence face? Thanks again for videos. Gonna make this and the router edge guide soon.
