I had no idea you have ribbon leis! I thought they were just flowers! What a lovely tradition! And how lovely to have a male make and wear these, within a culture where men are not shamed for doing so! Think that's a big lesson from Hawaii right there to the rest of the world!!! I love them! 😘😘😘
I was having a hard time getting the hang of making ribbon leis after a handful of videos. This video was clear & I got the hang of it right away. I already finished my first lei in a good amount of time ! Thank you for this.
Mahalo nui loa from the arctic Minnesota. I'm just starting ribbon leis as my Grammie's 90th birthday is coming up (June 22nd) and she is from Haleiwa. This gives me time to practice the basic before trying the double ribbon one. POINTERS: watch the video more than once. Hit space bar to stop until you're caught up. FIVE YARDS (no joke) but I have a few practice feet of ribbon I keep undoing (as there are no knots except for beginning and ending) to re-lern and/or get the tension right. For the first one, set aside an hour... this time will drop the more you do it. Do not get frustrated at mistakes: learn from them. No one got good at anything the first time they tried it, but they didn't give up and that's how they got better. PRACTICE.
Love your ribbon leis and clear audio instruction. Initially was only looking to make an extension for a kukui nut money lei for graduation (have 5 coming up this May/June!) but your video/lei samples inspired me to try full ribbon leis, too. Thank you!
Mahalo for making this video. I will give this a try for my hula sister's graduation. I live on the mainland, so making fresh flower leis can be expensive. This is a good compromise.
This is an incredibly easy to follow video! I am showing it in my class, so the students can make these for our class's graduation ceremony. The examples of different looks with different types of ribbon is very helpful- so each one can be unique and different... THANKS!
Wow thank you for making this video. I've been looking at videos for a couple days now and this was the best one. Thank you for putting the camera over your hands instead of in front of you. Really helped. Thank you!
Thanks for watching and I have a video on how to make the double ribbon lei if u want to check that out. Have a great day and have fun making some ribbon leis.
Thank you for making and sharing this video! 😘 My first child is about to get promoted for 7th Grade next month! And I'm really looking for easy yet great video on how to make my own graduation lei for my baby.. I know its easy to just buy it, but I wanted to make it myself to make it extra special for her! So, thank you! 🙄
Beautiful! You make it look so easy. Going to start on my ribbon collection later and we'll see if my lei looks like yours. (now keep in mind I'm just a country girl from South Carolina!) lol. thanks for showing! been missing your videos!

+Abby Obina Thank you so much for subscribing! I really appreciate all of you that support me. I haven't made videos in a long time, but I will try to make more lei videos soon. My lei videos seem to be what everybody likes. I've been really busy lately, but i will try to make time to make more lei videos.
Thanks for watching. I finally was able to post the second video on how to make the double braided ribbon lei. So if u want to see that I have it up. Thanks
This braided hawaiian Lei, its pretty simple, As a beginner like me, takes 4ever to start on loop to loop. Its so easy the way I c it but its me. Hhhh, Im sure I will learn n catch up. MAHALO.
Please help me by telling me where to find good ribbon in 100 yard spools. I am using 3/8” but having trouble finding it in different colors. Spending too much time looking on line and no time for crafts. Thank you. Judy
I’m not sure where you live. But I buy my ribbon locally at a store named Ben Franklin when they go on sale. They have every color in every type of ribbon. If you’re somewhere else I would check Michael’s or Joanne’s for good spools of ribbon. I hope that helps
