I've been making purses for a little over a year now. I'm not a professional by no means but I made this bag and omg I can't believe how professional it looked after I made it. I've already made 3 of them. And one last thing I can't believe it's free! Thank you so much for such a fantastic free pattern.
Wow! What a great design, I'll be making one of these for sure! You must have put a lot of time designing making and filming this project, thank you so much, David in Scotland. Stay safe over there.
I wanted to share my experience making this bag which I sewed out today! I downloaded the pattern last week (thanks for the free download) cut it out and taped together. I wasn't sure I had enough Faux leather but I did. I did an inventory of what I needed vs what I had. Walmart has new fabric and some of it is amazingly gorgeous. Anyways I picked up a yard of lining. You will have just enough so take care placing your pattern pieces. You will use ALL of 1 yard lining fabric. Same with the Vinyl. So this morning I decided I was going for it. I cut out and started piecing. I have to tell you your video and pattern pieces are spot on. No issues at all. None! It took me 2 cups of coffee, 3 diet pepsis and a small bag of chips but its all done. It turned out exactly like yours. Everything fit together nicely. If and when I make it again I will make 2 small changes. I did use contact cement for the bottom seam which makes a huge difference with a shape of bag. I would have added alittle batting to the interior between the lining and vinyl for more shape on all 4 sides and had chocolate chip cookies in my pantry. Other than that its way cute. Thanks again. Sorry I am chatty and happy with the outcome.
A year later, I'm finally making a couple of these, but in waterproof canvas. The pattern and tutorial are excellent, accurate and easy to follow. 👍 I will definitely make this bag, again. Probably in cork for my next batch. 💕❤💕 Thank you!
This was a nice pattern. The only thing I would do different next time, and it's just my preference, is to cut the outside pieces as one piece so there's no seam in the middle of the purse bottom. There's not reason to have that open since this pattern sews it shut anyway and you birth the bag through the lining. Otherwise, it's a very cute design! Oh, I would also only sew one line going down the middle of the inner pocket. I can't put anything in those tiny pockets unless I'm carrying a crap load of pens or something. This is all easy stuff to modify though so the pattern was well worth it.
Can you please explain the part of back pocket and the part you add two peaces together to complete the vinyl back peace? Am a beginner, love everything else of your video, would you please help me? 😳 thank you😊😀
Hi Kim! I’m not sure how much I can help because it’s really hard to explain with just words! You can take a look at our written directions with photos. Sometimes that’s helpful to slow it down because I realize the video moves fast. www.onlinefabricstore.net/makersmill/how-to-make-a-faux-leather-vinyl-handbag/ If that doesn’t help, I can try to help with more specific questions. I know a lot of times when I’m watching tutorials, things might not really make sense until I’m actually doing it, then it all comes together. You may want to do it first with other fabric since the vinyl is very unforgiving and tricky for beginners. If you make mistakes with regular fabric, it’s easy to rip out the stitches and try again until you figure it out. Sorry, I want to be more helpful but I’m not sure how to explain it better. Let me know if you have other questions and good luck!!!
@@onlinefabricstore Thank you for answering so fast! The link "Click here to get the free pattern" still says "We cant't get that page. " but I have subscribed to your mailinglist now.
@@tranriket Shoot an email over to help@onlinefabricstore.com and tell them you talked with Alyssa on youtube and were having a hard time getting a template. I will send them the template right now so they will have it ready for you.
Hello......thank you for this video....I just have two fast questions....Did you use upholstery thread when you sewed the vinyl section and did you or can you use a leather needle. ...looking forward to making this!
One question please. The strap loop pattern says 1.5" x 4" but the image is 3.5" x 4". I wondered why my strap loops looked so small. Which is the correct size?
This is a Beautiful bag do you have a tutorial on a Vinyl cross over body bag with out the flap please I would love to see it and maybe with out the music so i can really here you thank you
Hi there, I went to the online store in this video, and I can not find the lining fabric that you are using. Could you please tell me what the name of the drapery print is? I would love to order this. Thank you, oh by the way I LOVE your video and I downloaded the free pattern.
Hi Linda! Thank you so much! Unfortunately, this fabric was discontinued by the manufacturer but here is a link to other floral fabrics -www.onlinefabricstore.com/design-floral.aspx You can search for fabrics by colors, so you can single out gray fabric and find something that is really close to the fabric in this video (or maybe even finding one you like more!)
ClairM I made this without any interfacing except on the lining pieces, however, my next one will be firmer by adding either decovil light or decovil heavy, to all vinyl pieces, which would make it a lot stiffer.
Hi Desiree, yes we'd recommend this project for an intermediate to advanced sewer. Sewing vinyl can be tricky because you can't really rip out mistakes like you can with woven fabric because the needle leaves permanent holes. If you use a different fabric, it may be OK for a confident beginner!
Bonjour beau travail félicitations ! Quelle est là dimensions des anneaux pour les anses et es que c’est aussi beau si le sac est fait tout en tissu ? Quels tissus choisir dans ce cas? Merci de votre réponse
Thanks Martine! The D-rings are 1-1/4 inches. Yes, you can make this bag out of fabric too. You'll need to use an interfacing ironed onto the back of the fabric to make it stiffer. This page has some suggestions for the types of fabric that are good for bags: www.onlinefabricstore.net/makersmill/what-fabrics-are-good-for-tote-bags/
I would imagine that depends on the equipment you are using. You may break some needles attempting if your material is too tough on a standard sewing machine.
We have a messenger bag tutorial that can be easily made with vinyl or faux leather. You can find it here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZyL6N1Rflyk.html
