Dear ladies , thank you so much for this tutorial. After I saw your video, I bought the stones and all the instruments need it , and today I made for the first time a necklace. I love it!!! I will definitely make some for my friends for Christmas. Thank you so much!!! You are amazing teachers!! You made it so easy, even for someone like me, trying for first time.🙂 😘
Rewatched your video again for the tenth plus times and I still enjoyed it, you do make me smile and I have made my own floating necklaces and still wear them, I have had comments about them and have told whoever who has asked where I saw the video about them. (The O'Neil Sisters) on youtube. Thank you again x
Hi Nikola, Thanks so much for the kind words! We are so happy you are happy with your floating necklaces! We have more projects like this on our blog if you want to check it out: RunningWithSisters.com Cheers! Jennifer & Kitty
I just happened upon this video and I am thrilled to see this cute easy technique. I have been trying to figure out how to do a similar look but was using a crimp bead on each side of each bead on two separate strands. Then the silver crimps tarnished and turned black! Not what I expected. 😒 This is a much better design. Thank you!! 😍
Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial. I watched it yesterday evening and today I already made three neclaces, one bracelett and a pair of earrings. So easy and beautiful.
Really lovely , especially appreciate that you show the times when a bead or item falls , small things like that are real and silly , makes the video relatable for me anyways !
As always a great video which was easy to follow. Great Idea for a present for my mum this year which I know she will love as not made her anything like that before. Thank you, Ladies, and looking as lovely as ever x
Thank you so much for sharing this video on the floating necklace. Been wanting to make one for years, never new that is was this easy. Very insightful teaching
This is an absolutely wonderful tutorial! I have made 5 of these necklaces now, in all different kinds of color combinations, each one is just beautiful! Thank you for this great video. One note...I bought the EXACT wire you are using and didn't have any crimp beads small enough for the ends....so I improvised and knotted the two ends twice and slipped the knot inside the clam shell, a dab of glue and PRESTO! It works GREAT! The wire is so nice and soft and pliable and it's super easy to make a knot with it at the end!
Thanks for the kind words. So glad you are having success making this necklace. We love it. So wearable!! And glad you found a solution to the crimp bead problem. You can buy all sizes of crimp beads online if you are having trouble finding small ones at your local shops. Again thanks!! You made our day! J&K
Great tutorial! At last, a project that I can actually do quickly. Still a beginner but the floating necklace is something I could complete. You're wonderful teachers. Thank you. Going to watch more of your videos!
Thank you for this video! I'm a beginner - just gave this technique a try to play and experiment with some stringing wires (which were each different thicknesses). The little samples came out rather nice.
OMG!...soooooooo Gorgeous and thank you for sharing the Technique!..I can't wait to make one of my own!...I can see it in my Creative Eye right now!.... :)
So glad you like it Susan! It's super wearable! Here's the step by step how-to on our blog: runningwithsisters.com/how-to-make-a-floating-bead-necklace/ Cheers, Jennifer & Kitty
A couple of years ago I bought 2 HUGE Rubbermaid totes full of beads along with another BIG box of beads (with accessories, but no tools) from a friends apartment manager because the previous owner of the beads passed away. I paid about $145.00 for tons of beads, and sold some seed beads to a neighbor. I’m going to try to make some of these necklaces for Christmas presents, but make them about 22” long. Nice video!
Hi ladies, just wanted to thank you for this awesome video. Love your style, you make this look effortless and easygoing. Super thorough and helpful. Thanks!!
after looking at my fishing line i think the beading line would be best for me. fishing line is difficult to work with and on the necklace shown here the small shine of wire is integral to the look of the piece. i'm going to make this for myself. ty for posting.
Nice easy necklace that turns out very nice. I would love to see a video on how to use the bead board you have in this video. How to get the different sizes.
thanks very much for showing this i'm in the process of making a string of colored pearls for a friend of mine and this might be just the thing i'm looking for. it wont take up as many beads and will look twice a better with fishing line cause its just about invisible. edit: just waiting for all my supplies to arrive that ive ordered online
Aloha 🌈 I don't bead but I am glad to find your channel. It is satisfying watching your tutorial. It's sort of therapeutic. Thank you. May I please request one thing? Could you possibly get your focus with the camera closer to the work? I have very poor vision and everything are so tiny. Mahalo to both of you. You're both just as beautiful as this necklace 😘 Stay safe and sending you warm ALOHA ❤️🌈
So glad you are enjoying the videos. Sorry we didn't get closer with the camera. We have some newer videos which have very close detailed side shots. Here's our latest video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UdwuGmpEWiA.html Also, we have close up step photos on our blog for a lot of our tutorial videos. Check it out at RunningWithSisters.com Stay safe! Aloha! J&K
I'm wondering why you don't slip the jump ring onto the clamshell BEFORE YOU CLOSE IT then you don't even have to open the jump ring? Excellent tutorial. Thank you.
Good eye, Rose. That is normally what we would do, but we wanted to show how to open and close the jump ring in case someone buys a clamshell bead tip with a closed loop. Thanks for the kind words!
Hi ladies. I keep watching this video. I love it. My biggest challenge is what to charge for my work. I have tried to keep track of prices of individual items but my head just swam. What suggestions do you have??????
You could make a little spreadsheet with the costs of the materials in it. Then add them up for each piece. But we think even if the materials don't cost much and it didn't take you long, if it's a great design and well made, people will pay more for it. You could look at similar items on Etsy or in catalogs like Sundance and see what people will pay for something. If you use higher quality materials, like real silver and real gemstones, that adds to the perceived value and you can try charging more. We think people don't charge enough for their beautiful handmade jewelry! Start higher and see if people will pay it! J&K
So it does not matter which strand you use for the single strand bead as you string them on? Its so simple and im thinkin fishing line so they just look like beads are sitting around your neck
Hi! I love this Style! The finished Product is lovely! A few questions on Bead Sizes: 1. What Size did you use for the "Small Silver Brushed Round Beads" & 2. It LOOKED like you Crimped Small Crimp Beads on your way around the Necklace... What Size Crimp Beads did you use? Thank you so much!!
Great questions Erin! The small beads are 3mm. Here's a link to the written how-to on our blog: runningwithsisters.com/how-to-make-a-floating-bead-necklace/ The small silver beads are not crimped throughout the necklace. They slide freely. Hope that helps! J&K
What astounds me is that you close the clam shell loop and then open the jump ring and put it into the clam shell loop and close it. I DO NOT CLOSE THE CLAM SHELL LOOP AND OPEN THE JUMP RING. DON'T BOTHER WITH OPENING THE JUMP RING. JUST PUT THE JUMP RING INTO THE CLAM SHELL LOOP AND THEN CLOSE THE LOOP. THIS WAY YOU ARE ASSURED THAT THE JUMP RING IS AS INTACT AND AS IT CAME FROM THE PACKAGE. (I do plan to make this Floating Bead necklace using real gemstone beads and I thank you for sharing and giving us the demonstration)
Yes, it is a redundant way to do it. We show how to do it that way in case someone has the type of clamshell bead tip that has a closed loop on it. Then you need to open the jump ring to attach it. We think this would look lovely with real gemstones! J&K
Really lovely necklaces. Thank you for sharing. I think I may try making one of these. I am new to beading. Have most of the items apart from the folding ‘clamshell?’ parts. I will have to put my thinking cap on and improvise 🇬🇧❤️ new sub
Hi Debbie, Here's a link to show you what the clamshell bead tips look like: amzn.to/3hTKepl Or you could finish each end with a crimp bead and crimp cover as we did with this necklace: runningwithsisters.com/how-to-make-a-rainbow-necklace/ Hope that helps! Jennifer & Kitty
What size are the silver beads? ---Didn't think I would like this at first ... but especially after seeing the versatility in the pieces you are wearing, I am hooked!
Thank you for this wonderful video! PLEASE let me know from whom you are buying beads. I am totally new to this. Have zero supply and I am afraid to buy wrong beads. I am very limited in money, can't afford any mistakes. Hope for your reply. THANK YOU
We buy beads from lots of places, most with a budget in mind! Online you can find good deals on Amazon and Etsy. We also like FireMountainGems.com, ShipwreckBeads.com, and ArtBeads.com. We buy from bead shows and flea markets too. And we find really good deals (and use coupons) at Michaels, Joann, and Hobby Lobby. Hope that helps! J&K
Love the details you share , I'm definitely a details person . I would love to see the video in 1080p as I can only choose 720p. I have a question about calm shell clasps . When ever I've per chased these things I've found the loop to be flimsy and I have no faith in its strength. I don't have the funds for silver which I assume is stronger. Any ideas ? I did think of trying to straighten the loop out to try and hammer it to harden it but the one time I tried it snapped of when I looped it back round again. So I'm done with ideas . Thank you in advance .
Sorry you can't see the video larger. It is shot in HD and should blow up as big as your screen. We have not had any trouble with the clamshell bead tips. Fire Mountain gems sells some that have a closed loop: www.firemountaingems.com/itemdetails/h20b4715fn Hope that helps. J&K
Great question Angele. We haven't had trouble with the wire kinking, but you could try 29-strand instead of 7-strand. Here's a little video about bead stringing wire: runningwithsisters.com/bead-stringing-wire/ Hope that helps! Jennifer & Kitty
Great question! We've never had a problem with clamshell bead tips opening up. But if you are concerned, they make clamshell bead tips with a closed loop to attach to. They look like this: amzn.to/2POaDa4 J&K
Thank you for sharing your talents! I have a question... Do you close the loop on the clamshell before or after closing the clamshell... I was taught after in a beading class.... Maybe I misunderstood??? Thank you wonderful sisters!
+Susan Anderson Great question Susan! It doesn't really matter and it would be hard to tell anyway once you're in the process of making the necklace. Hope that helps! J&K
Yes! Here's a project where we used crimp beads and crimp bead covers along with wire guardians to finish the ends and add the clasp. Hope that helps! runningwithsisters.com/aqua-crystal-beaded-necklace/ J&K
Hi Emily, We often bead in that order: clasp on one end, then beads, then clasp. But for the purposes of the how-to video, we find it better to show all the beading at once and then how to finish the ends. But you can do it either way! Cheers, Jennifer & Kitty
Good catch, Mitzi. We show how to open and close the jump ring in case someone has a clam shell bead tip with a closed loop. We just want to make sure to show every step. :) Jennifer & Kitty
Thank you is amazing video so well explained , I just have a question , you says is a 18" necklace but it looks longer than that? can I cut the wire to make it 18 or 20?, sorry for the question but Im very new in this. BTW Im using my husband account , Thank you again I love your work
You can make it any length you want. Try picking out a necklace you have in your collection that you know you like the length of and measure that. Hope that helps! J&K
Sorry it wasn't clear Debra. To finish the ends, we fed the two wires into a clamshell bead tip and slid on a crimp bead. The we flattened the crimp bead about 2″ from the last bead using the chain-nose pliers. We trimmed the excess wire. Then we slide the clamshell bead tip over the crimped bead. Added a dab of bead stringing glue in the clamshell. Closed the clamshell over the crimp using the chain-nose pliers. And closed the loop on the clamshell bead tip. To add the clasp, we opened a jump ring using both sets of pliers. Slid the lobster clasp into the jump ring and slid the jump ring onto the loop of the clamshell bead tip. Then we closed the jump ring. Here's the complete written instructions on our blog: runningwithsisters.com/how-to-make-a-floating-bead-necklace/ Hope that helps! J&K
