I’m think abt doing this, would it be possible to have the nut at the front (to simulate the engine block) and use paper clips as an internal frame? (And maybe even fill the back with the red stuff from matches to burn like fuel)
I just make a rectangle, a square, put the square in middle, then I put foil over them and press hard, I have the body and window, I glow on wheels, add more layers for more details like spoilers, seats etc and done. Or I do a speed run and smother the car in foil , then I gently take the car out, then I run it over with a monster truck in slow motion

Once you've crashed the car the body and the chassis are ruined so I rip them apart to get the nut and wheels off but be careful not to bend the axle. Edit: sorry forgot to answer the other question haha, yes the paint makes it a little stronger but It also makes it easier to handle when attaching it to the chassis
It has to be heavy enough to make the car crash good, but not too heavy or the car won't be able to support its own weight. and it has to fit inside the car
