Can you make a video on how to make an indie game in steps like what you need for optimization and how to save your files interface just how to build on and the steps you need to make id like to see a video on what steps of takes from beginning to end i hope you could do that because you show us a lot. Thanks for that
Next video: Unity for advanced developers. I want to see what you'd consider the most advanced topics in unity/c#. Pretty much every unity tutorial video on RU-vid is tagged for beginners.
Most of my videos are actually around the intermediate range, I made this one because it's been a long time since I made something for complete beginners. Have you seen my Grid System videos? They start off small but increase in difficulty with each one. Once it involves Generics and object types it's pretty much an advanced topic ru-vid.com/group/PLzDRvYVwl53uhO8yhqxcyjDImRjO9W722 If you want something even more advanced maybe look into Machine Learning, very interesting but pretty complex unitycodemonkey.com/search.php?q=machine%20learning Or maybe look at how I handled the Task System and Guest Spritesheets in Battle Royale Tycoon unitycodemonkey.com/search.php?q=battle%20royale%20tycoon
Man, my friend.... your tutorials are great man. I dont know if you read this. But I am a 41 year old dude, who's a father of two kids with barely no spare time since I work full time too. The bit of spare time I have I spend on my kids, family and so on. But in the very few hours I got entirely for myself, man.....I watch your tutorials. It means much to me. I want to make a game. I know it will take me 10 years at least from here. Maybe more since I am older and slower in understanding things. But your tutorials help. I just wanna say that you. Even tho you probably dont read this. I appreciate every video of you. And who you are. THANK YOU!
following the 10 hour video and came to this one as advised. followed the steps and played the 3rd person project after downloading it as advised in the video moving to next video now.
I always like your videos, but I would be very curious to have your vision on advanced topics, like game architecture, using singletons for managers, memory management ...etc. Anyway, as always, I really enjoy your videos! Keep it up! I'm even considering buying your full course, it seems the most accurate and complete I've seen on different platforms.
Yup if you want all those topics then the course would be great for you, it uses singletons, events, generics, lots of systems but all nicely decoupled, etc.
soo much dedication in one video, so appreciated, after my exams I wanna start with unity in the holidays, I hope to watch as much of your content as possible
Thank you for all the tutorials, man I'm studying programming at college rn and we had to make a game and a program for the previous semester I did some simple coding and made an application(I made pretty simple text redactor) but my friends from the group took the game So I didn't get to code the game much I'm at the very beginning of your free course and hoping to be able to make good quality games some day and I think that your channel is extremely helpful with it(I was watching your videos even before I ever touched VS or Unity) so I'm extremely thankful that you provide so much useful info for free
Good video but you stopped short on the one thing I really wanted to see: Exporting the game out of the editor! This is actually one of the most frustrating parts of both Unity and Unreal for me as there are very few videos on it and the build/export systems are convoluted as all heck.
Really? What's frustrating about it? It really is just one button click. File > Build Settings > Build What issues do you have with it? I haven't covered that topic specifically because I never had any issues with the build process. Just press the button and you have an executable, open that and you have your game. Are you talking about making mobile builds? Those are indeed more complex and I haven't used them much.
Oh man, I faced so many errors on just this simple tutorial (not code monkeys's fault by any means), it kinda gave me the feeling of what gaming development feels like fr lol.
Heh yup that's a perfectly normal part of the process! Even with my level of experience I still get errors all the time, the difference is I no longer get frustrated by them since I know it's perfectly normal. I just read the error, fix it and move on
We need more content based on unity kits, Third Person Controller Starter Kit is a cool base but is forgotten and the programmer got fired so.. you already have and TPS tutorial, can you do something like action/hackslash
i've been looking everywhere but i can't find a solution to my problem, basically whenever i try to open a project it always says "failed to decompress", every post says it has something to do with disk space and name, but i have a brand new PC and the folder and file names are both no longer than 5
5:42 - if the default tab is not Scene(as was the case when I tried this tutorial in September 2023), just click on Scene to switch from Game to Scene.
I imported the SimpleTown package and the sample scene is all pink, so I tried the pipeline converter tool to convert builtin to URP but it doesn't find anything for materials to upgrade so it doesn't work for me.
Maybe the assets are already in URP but your project isn't using URP? Check the project settings, Graphics and see if you're using the URP Pipeline Asset Or just inspect those materials to see what shader they are using
That would be interacting with their API, nothing really specific to Unity, I covered how to do a HTTP request here unitycodemonkey.com/video.php?v=Gk0-amfn5DM
please, can you make a tutorial on how to make a selling path, I really need it but I can't find it anywhere and maybe you can make a tutorial.. please. If you do, write back
Is there a way to migrate old projects to the latest version, or are old projects just broken if you don’t keep and old version of the engine around, I don’t have the disk space to keep three or four versions of Unity hanging around on my hardrive
Unity has an archive so you can download any version ever made unity3d.com/get-unity/download/archive So you can choose to upgrade or not upgrade. Depending on the Unity version that project was made it might be tricky to upgrade or might be super simple. Upgrading from 2020 to 2021 requires pretty much 0 changes Upgrading from Unity 5 to 2021 would probably require a bit of work
Do you also have a bug with the standard shader cutout rendering mode? create an object with it's material being standard with cutout rendering mode and a texture with transparency -> In editor it works fine but when you BUILD the project the material will act as if it wass just opaque... This bug happens in unity 2021 LTS
Hi could you please help me where or how to replace Standard Assets from unity? I know that they are now for Third person and First person. But i like to have those old too. Thank you
Sorry if this has been asked before but is the performance impact of visual scripting in unity a significant factor? I think PCs do fine but I'm a little worried for phones. Especially low end ones. No HDRP or anything like that just basic effects animations etc. I'm struggling to code with c# but maybe I just need more time.
Yes there is a performance impact, whether it is a factor depends on your game. For relatively simple games it's unlikely to impact in a noticeable way. In my Visual Scripting course I built 3 games entirely with visual scripting and performance was perfectly fine. unitycodemonkey.com/video.php?v=qAkeCDWgPVA However for complex games like making an RTS/Tycoon/MMO then yes for those genres with lots of systems I would not recommend using Visual Scripting. I find VS to be an excellent learning tool to teach you programming, so go ahead and use it, try to use it with Programmer Naming, and after a while you will be much more comfortable with C#
@@CodeMonkeyUnity I was testing around in unity for Android and on play my cpu usage jumped to 34%. Usually it's like 10 for a small project. Thankfully it wasn't because of visual scripting maybe just the emulating needs extra steps and resources. Thanks for the programmer name tip I forgot I had noob mode on!
i built an apk it is working in my redmi phone but while testing in other phone like samsung and vivo it crashes is there any way to find out what causes the error
Those are two completely different rendering pipelines, do you only see the Built-in? Do you not see any URP or Universal RP at all? That's weird, not sure what could cause that
Thanks for responding! Yeah no option to select URP. Maybe the version doesn’t have that template for some reason? I am on windows if that matters but will try and look into that a bit more.
@@CodeMonkeyUnity Well the apps on, i see it in taskbar but its just not visible when i pull it up. or its maybe my old ass laptop😂 probably the latter
If you make more than that you are legally required to upgrade to the Plus license. Unity doesn't really have a police force but that's what you need to do. Which honestly if you make $100k, you can certainly afford $35 per month.
@@y4ni608 In contrast, Unreal charges no royalty for any profit under $1 million, so the first mill is always free. If more than one person used unity to make an indie game, they would all have to upgrade to payed tier. So depending on the project, expected revenue and size of team, one will be better than the other.
Some one plz help I keep trying to make a new project but it always says “ No valid unity editor license found. Please activate your license “ but I have a license and I have tryed every thing plz help
Did you select a license other than the free personal license? If so you need to input the serial key. Log files are here docs.unity3d.com/Manual/LogFiles.html
@@CodeMonkeyUnity I got in contact with customer service and got it all fixed and started a game and lots of tutorials but now I don’t know what I’m going to do because I’m only 13 and school and football are coming up so I won’t have to to learn the code so I’m looking at unreal engine because of the blueprint System but my pc can’t handle that so I’m kind of on a struggle buss and don’t know what to do but I don’t want to give up
There is no strangers to love you know the rules and so do I there’s no commitments what I’m thinking of you won’t get this from any other guy. Just want to tell you how I’m feeling gotta make you understand give you up never gonna let you down, never gonna run around and desert. You never gonna make you cry I’m gonna say goodbye never gonna tell a lie and hurt you.
The correct way to use Unity would be: Step 1: Think on monetization, and how you're going to exploit the users compulsion loops tought Ads. Step 2: Who cares?, make the rest of the game or something.
If you don't specify exactly what error you are referring to then no one can help you Is it a compile error? Runtime error? Does Unity not even open? Does your player not move? Does it not jump?
@@CodeMonkeyUnity It's okay I've fixed the problem 😅It's just that I had something wrong, and thanks for being there at all times for those who need help, a lot of creators leave out the comments of old videos.
I don't get it, last video you uploaded most of the softies develpers was about to leave Unity bc unity made changes that wont effect us, now u upload this? I really thought this is old video, idk why u back to the begin while you already made alot of tutorials not for beginners
It's been in 1.0-pre for quite some time so I assume the full release will happen sometime later this year. When that happens I'm definitely going to cover it!
If you are new to game development, then I advise you to start right away with Unreal Engine 4 or 5 I have been working on this engine (Unity) since 2013, just because I was advised to do so. Now I regret the time spent on this old and infirm game engine. If you need high-quality and beautiful 3D, forget about Unity, but if you only need 2D, then welcome. Beginners, run away from Unity before it's too late!
