This video helped me a lot!!! I just finished my ghillie hat and it's looking AWESOME! I'm about to start the flight suit. It cost me around 30-40$ for all the materials. Instead of 160$ for a synthetic-looking ghillie in paintball shops. Thank you very much! For people doing it: It may take some time (took me about 3 hours for the hat), but it's fun and it looks totally great at the end, better than I thought actually. Thanks again GhillieExperts!!! :)
I'm thinking about breaking into wildlife photography, this was a great help, thank you. Now all I have to do is save up for a bloody great big telephoto lens!
Good question Peilethan. I have made more or less the same way because my superiors told me to do so. This was back in 1997. I have found ways of achieving better results much faster.
Great video. For the guys (and girls) who want a suit for hunting, just remember that some fabrics, especially burlap, give off a strong odor. I've left burlap out in the weather for weeks and you can't seem to get rid of the smell. I suspect for the short term at least, the same could be said of using spray paint. Obviously these guys aren't concerned with odors, but if a four legged critter gets a whiff of you, you're as busted as if you'd stood up and danced a jig.
you can make netting by hand just look up needle and gauge and how to use them. took me just a day to learn and once you do its super easy, just takes time to make a lot of netting.
I suggest taking burlap strings (use different colors) to do the whole ghillie suit. It will look much better and also blend much better. Do not use burlap stripes, because it is time consumming and it looks weird. I used about 10-15 strings, 12 inches long for each side of a square on the netting. So you attach about 10-15 strings to each side of a square of your netting... Thanks Ghillieexpert
@bmx65 thanks very much, ill make sure to go get some from there. i was also hoping to make a ghilie for airsofting, and just for a cool project. but im taking my time, might even take me a year but w/e.
Good work guy's i watched all 1-9 video's and they were very informing i just finished my on ghillie form the materials you had on hand and the suit turned out great!!! One comment i do have can you do a video on camouflage on your weapon like painting for different locations ie white during the winter with snow on the ground and desert and woodland colors what do you advise on type off paint and stocks i have a Springfield M-25 with a black composite stock. Thanks again on the great video
yea b/c it it tears it takes more time fixing the tear than changing the padding. but if ur going to use it for airsoft paintball or hunting dont worry about it that's really just for military snipers
Just go out in the woods and take a picture of some heavy foliage. Then put the picture in Photoshop, go to Filters->Artistic->Cutout and select 3 layers. Voilá, you have the 3 main colors of your area^^, (It's not a perfect science, but it helps) :P
@@samirsamtani6402 Yes. I was in the seventh grade when I left that comment. I forget who I was responding to. The layout for youtube was totally different back then.
If i am making a ghillie out of burlap sacks such as the ones in the video....do i cut the sack into......well.. sumthen like 1" wide strips by 24" in lenght then just begin fraying it once i have the strips tied to the net?..... Or do i just fray the entire burlap sack until its completely shredded then tie 7-8 threads onto the net together? much appreciated if i can get a helpful reply...
@piglatinboy16 I tired to look it up and I can't find any, just type in 1" or 2" burlap Role, good luck. However I have found it cheaper just to go down to Hobby Lobby and buy some burlap fabric and Rit dye which they have there, Along with some decorative netting, its good strong stuff. My friend and I are making the Bushrag suits for airsoft.
Hi, I went out today and got the netting that you put of shrubs in cold Wheather, would that stuf work? And where can I get the strips that you tied on too ur hat and shreded them a little? Thanks a bunch:)
# WaSSupYo8o8 Good point but camouflage isn't always a ghillie suit there are times when one must rely on your own knowledge of your surroundings and your enemy's knowledge in order to hide well you have to think like the seeker/enemy and think where they would look for you first and or last I've used this tactic before and it has served me well.
@piglatinboy16 My friend and I took the Hunter Green burlap they had there, and took a Lemon Yellow dye and mixed the whole bottle with 3 gallons of water, that will allow you to dye 1lb of fabric. We got the most perfect medium green you could ask for
is it possible to make sorta a cloak that is similar to a ghillie suit that way its lighter and if it is hot will be cooler? so you get a cloak attach netting and burlap that way when you are prone it hides your silouette and makes you blend into the ground? I just need somthing that isn't full body just somthing I can throw over me when hunting.
do i spray fire retardant on the ghillie when it is completely done with all the jute on?also would it make the ghillie sticky or mess up the dye if i sprayed a fire retardant on it?and would i only ever have to spray fire retardant on the ghillie once or every so often? sry for all the questions but i jsut want my ghillie to turn out well lol...
@AceofGrenades Just don't put netting on the front. I'm only puting a very little bit on the front of mine! I would like to see yours! can you post a video?
Soon they will have to teach how to make an invisible suite with body heat reducer for thermal scan. With all the new technology the Ghillie will become obsolete.
@SandBlast714 well, it blends in with its herd, as you would suspect a lion will single out just one zebra, but a whole bunch of lines standing in a field look like a striped wall.
@NastyPoopOnMyShoe Wally has dyes for about $1.19 that dyes two pounds of fabric and you can dilute it. And 190 feet of jute in green and brown for 1.19 too.
Hey, so i've got an idea. I'm going to be making one of these for my airsoft games, but the idea struck me- what if i make one ghillie hat to be camoflauge, and one to be blaze orange, so i can also use it for hunting! Anyone have any input on this? thanks!
