instread you can just save the comp shot without footage and set the blend mode in the timeline to screen :)

This allows you to change the effects to something broader or 'more glitchy' overtime. Besides, if you want you could make the layers a preset for easy access.

Good tutorial Javert. It's great that you guys are exploring more the built in effects. If I could add to the request list would be great if you could make a tutorial on how to create realistic virtual sets. Integrating lighting to blend in the background with the rotoscoped video.

I'm having an issue. When I set the matte source on the second layer to luminance, the entire layer just becomes a black screen. Any idea what's causing this?

Regardless to what the thumbs down folks are suggesting, that was an excellent tutorial!!.....waaayyy better than others I have seen great job. Moderately fast, but understandable.. others that I have seen, were talking way to fast.. GREAT JOB!! the numbers tell the difference.

I'm surprised this hasn't gotten more popular to be honest. The only reason I don't like it so much as I want to though is because it takes forever at some points and the sound never likes to load that fast. So when I tried to like do something at a simple pace it takes forever. not sure if it's my CPU or the program to be honest

Hey Hitfilm, I’ve been here for a while and seen a lot of effects, but I think it would be really cool if you guys make some tutorials on custom transitions and things like that. I’ve seen the clone transition but maybe something more practical like how to make zoom transitions, speed ramps which can also be used to make transitions, and other things like that. Thanks!

Does anyone know how I could create a "burst" effect? I want to create a sort of star burst effect in space, I've got most of it figured but I can't figure out how to create a burst. I want sort of a tiny ball to fragment and fly in different directions, is the displacement effect a good way of going about it?

Ive used hit film since 2016. I switched over too MacBook and now everything is different. I no longer have the option for composite shot. It. says I have to activate but when I try to do that it says its for the free version (which thats what I got). Which version do I need to download to just upload to youtube?

It sounds like you may be using HitFilm 4 Express or HitFilm Express 2017 - this software can only be active on one computer at a time. You'll need to deactivate it on your old computer and then reactivate it on your Mac. You can try using the Scan Lines effect to see if this gives the effect you're looking for. Check out the TV Damage effect in the Destruction addon pack too: hitfilm.com/store/hitfilm-express - Oli (HitFilm Staff)

Workflow annoyances: Keyframing - keybinds to rapidly set 0 or 100 to drastically speed up things like this? also be good in the editor for fadein/outs. It be awesome if this was like sketchup where you can just type numbers at any time and it figures out the context on hitting enter. Rgb splitting - surely there's got to be a better way than having to create 1 layer each? or is this limitation of express i know hitfilm isn't a node compositor but maybe pro has tooling for this? Having to drill down to the specific effects setting is slow and tedious whenever I test stuff like this in hitfilm, be good to have some way to mark/pin/recentlyused a setting as "priority" so it shows at the very top of the effects for a layer.

Paul Newton Hitfilm Pro has specialized RGB splitting filters, but the workaround shown is needed for Express. Remember, the layer stack and controls panels also have search filtering. This can make it easier to deal with large effects stacks as one could type in (for example) "scale" which filters so only attributes with "scale" in the name display. It's a feature not covered enough in tutorials.

Is it possible to mask the glitch effect? I tried masking a white plane with the glitch effect as a matte, and there were still black leftover effects covering the screen, with the white glitch effects in the mask. Is there a way I can completely restrict the glitch effect into a mask? If so, how do I do it?

In the main comp, you'll have to select the Glitch Texture [Composite] and select Make Composite Shot again - a comp within a comp that can then be masked. - Javert

When i set keyframes on the "distortion" opacity, it makes my background video blur out along with the distortion - the distortion never goes away. How do I fix that? its like the distortion and video are a single thing now, not "on top of eachother"

Brijesh Nagarathinam duplicate the video layer. Mask out the isolated object. Apply effects to the masked copy.

How do you paste the key frames because I always try to copy and paste put it will never let me paste them after i've copied them.

Ok I Need Little Help.. I cant export my project as one file. I have One Video Track & Two Audio Tracks. When i export it it stays as Three Tracks & doesnt combine them?? If i remove a Audio Track it exports fine but im trying to put background music over a motorcycke ride.. FaQ's Foruns Hf Utube im still none the wiser.. Any Help Is Much Appreciated !!
