Incredibly helpful video Liam, is it possible you could make a video on applying to PM roles without product managing experience or advice on what side projects to do to get noticed?
@@liambolling the current implementation is just nice in my opinion! Might be too boring if its full screen (with a small popup of the live feed of your face).
Great video Liam! I really appreciate the cards on the side of the video that detailed varying levels of content in the experience section - the examples are very helpful in outlining how we can improve our bullet points.
Really great video Liam. You are spot on with the fact that product is a small world and its always better to tell the truth on your resume. Love the structure for these videos, keep up the great work!
@@liambolling thank you! I do not think that all information should be free, but the lack of examples is the main problem of the PM studying. Thanks again for your channel and the Reddit post about it!
Thanks Liam for sharing this, I restructured all my CV according to your video and it seemed much more organized specially after separating the entrepreneurial and MISC activities from the full time jobs
Thank you for this super helpful video. I just have my first steps into the Product area, and your channel gave me a lot of insights. The information is clean, straight to the point, and well organized. I'm looking forward to your next video!
Awesome stuff! Content is king, video is the proof. The part about telling a story in the experience section is never heard of and that should give exact idea as to what kind of experience it was. Too smart.
Thanks for this video, Liam. I am looking to make a pivot from Software Engineer and CTO to a more Product-focused role. Thanks for this knowledge and experience you are sharing.
This was an extremely informative and concise video, Liam! I'm going to send this to all my aspiring PM friends in industry and students whenever they ask for resume advice 😊
Hi Liam, What an insightful video. Thank you for creating this video. Your resume tips and tricks are so relevant and helpful not just for PMs but any job position. More power to you!
Great video! I loved how you simplified each section in such a concise manner. The beginning, middle, end part was great as the experience section is the one I struggle most with.
Hi Liam. Wonderful video. Thanks a lot for the tips. I've been trying to crack a job in the Netherlands or Germany with visa sponsorship, but mostly my resume gets rejected. This video was very insightful and I'll incorporate the tips and apply to places again. Thanks a lot buddy, you're doing a great job ❤️🙏
Thanks Liam! Really appreciate this! You have actually given practical advice on how to write a resume with examples. Unlike other people take $3000 for this! Thanks so much
Thanks for sharing such a detailed insights Liam, do you mind sharing some tips on how a non-product professional (project management/Engineering background) should develop their resume to be able to secure a product management job.
Nice explanation of a great resume, Liam! I'd add that if you are out of school for 5+ years you can put the Education section at the bottom. What do you think of having an "Objective" section, something like "I am a... I have done ... I have a reputation for ..."?
Very helpful video even in 2023!! Hi Liam, it is often said that resume should keep in 1 page, but in the end of video, the resume you showed seems 2 page. Any suggestion would be helpful. Thanks!
Hey Liam, thanks for sharing an amazing content. I just disagree only one thing in the content. Recruiters typically spend only around 20-30 seconds initially reviewing a CV. If your CV template is not catchy in terms of colors and design, you run the risk of your CV being overlooked. This is because, being human, recruiters tend to review CVs when they are contemplative.
As a hiring manager I can tell that's not true. Colors and design don't do nothing unless ofcourse you're in Design field, in that case use a bit of color. I can't stress this enough, how I've picked people who were well qualified but with ugly resumes. The content was what blew me away. And if you're going to use color or design, best be sure to use with caution. But the sincere truth is it has nothing to do with you landing interviews. Know this and know peace.
Hey Liam, Thanks very much for the video. It is very helpful! I noticed however that the slides aren't available anymore. Could you upload them again, please?
@@liambolling Hi Liam - thanks for the video , it is very helpful - I would like to share my resume with you and get your feedback. Whats the best way?
Thanks for the video! Just wanted to let you know the link to the slides is currently broken. Also, where can one find the slack community? Thanks again!
Hi Liam, Appreciate your efforts for explaining the bigger picture. It's a prolific session which clarifies & answers all PM resume queries. Can I please request you to share the format/template for the demo PM resume shown in your video ? It would be a great assistance for all passionate Product Managers. Thank you! Regards Tamal
This is great Liam, thank you and keep up the good work! Could you elaborate on why you suggest listing education first, rather than skills and/or experience? Or did I misunderstand and that only applied to students?
Sure thing! I’d say if you’re early in career or a student then education first, but later in career it’s probably find to move it down. Depends on what you see as more impressive. If your education is more impressive than your current job, then move that above experience.
Hi Liam Thanks for sharing this, but for some reasons I'm unable to retrieve your slides that you attached in the description, can u pls link that below
Thank you for this :) I was wondering your thoughts about a PM portfolio. Does one need a portfolio, or are we better of with an accurate and good storytelling CV and good recommendations? Super excited for more of your videos! Cheers
Hi Liam! Thank you so much for a great walk through of a good product manager resume - it was super helpful. Could you link to the Slack channel you mentioned at the end? Would love to join a like-minded community :) Thanks!
Great video Liam loving your content!!! QQ- What's your experience of Big 4 Consultants becoming Product Managers? Which PM roles do you think they would be most suited to, if any?
@liam, if one is not a PM, and looking for transition to be a PM from a Software Engineer role, what should experience section be like ? Suppose, PM role doesn’t require to hear about nitty gritty details of architecture or data structure implementation that we did as part of being a traditional software engineer, any thoughts?
Hi Liam, I loved your video however have some questions. Currently most of the IT companies are using an ATS system that automatically scans each applicant's resume and based on JD match % the candidate is cleared or rejected. In such scenarios how can the impacts example work? That will not match the JD at all and hence lead to ATS tracker rejecting applicant's resume. Kindly help
Hi Liam, thanks for doing this! What if I'm a product designer focused on UI/UX? Is it ok if I have a more "creative" resume with colors, etc? Of course always focusing on the content.
Hi Liam. Thanks for sharing. My question is how do you display impact for a product which is yet to be shipped? In my case, I discovered the market opportunity at an early startup, detailed this in documents and created wireframes. At the moment, I am working with designers and engineers to build. Since there are no signups yet, how do I display impact? Your response is highly appreciated 🙏🏾
Hi Liam, Great video and thank you so much. I've been working to get the content and format in a good shape on my resume. I'd love to join the slack community but for some reason, I can't get through with the link. Can you please help?
Hey Liam! Thanks for the amazing video. Should college students include high school as well in the Education section, or just the undergrad details are sufficient? Thanks again.
In my experience high school should be left off especially once you get to junior year. If you had some really big high school experience like a start-up or a national org that is applicable to the position (translator -> spanish club, business -> DECA/BPA, engineering -> robotics) you could tack that on but usually as you gain collegiate experiences those take precedent and you can take the high school things and push them into smaller and less important bullet points down in miscellaneous until you replace them completely.
Thanks Liam for this. One question should we customize our resume as per job description if yes how ? Also if you are working in insurance/ banking domain how do you use this to apply for Google/Microsoft ?
Hi Liam, is it still possible to get the resources you mentioned in the video. I noticed the link to the google docs is no longer active. Thanks in advance.
Thanks a lot for this !! Any advice on how can an engineer who has informally led teams and been instrumental in product shipping but don't have the PM title can shape his resume for PM? #SWE_to_PM
Long shot but can i send you my completed CV to get some feedback specifically to me? Im a graduate and really interested in getting into product management but dont have any eperience in the field.
If my responsibilites were PM (per manager), but my title was not, what should I put as my job title? I am asking this because internally my title was Product Analyst but job responsibilities when hired didn't require any SQL etc, just working side by side with a Principal PM to manage our initiatives. My manager tried to promote me but leadership rejected it.
Hi Liam, thanks for the video! I noticed your resume is about 1.5 pages long? Is it appropriate to have mine be that length for 5y of experience? Or should I aim for 1 pager?
