Hi there, great question. You can make your hedgehog home at any time of year, but the house is most likely to be used for hibernation in Autumn. The house may then be used as a nest between May and September, when litters of hoglets are born. But remember that once you've built your home it may take some time before a hedgehog moves in. oh man, i did it all following the instructions, yet my hands had no gloves on and now all hedgehogs just enter and disappear insisde. any help?

Sounds like you have summoned up a worm hole which will transport the hogs to another dimension, by not wearing gloves. Nothing for it, you'll have to follow them and bring them back.

I think that is so the cold North West wind does not blow in through the entrance, therefore less draughty and more attractive to hedgehogs.

Easier than trying to make one out of wood. I'd nail some ashphalt on the wooden roof to stop rain rotting it and maybe put a lots of twigs, leaves and few branches to insulate, protect and hide it a bit more - but don't want to be a clever dick. Better than my original design.
