In this video we look at how to make high quality instructional content on youtube and other platforms. We specifically look at a workflow to plan out, record, and then edit picture-in-picture tutorial videos. In addition, we overview some camera equipment that you can use as well as the screen recording & video editing software tools that I recommend.

General strategy to record video:
1. Write out an outline you will follow for your tutorial
2. Implement reference code for project
3. Record tutorial in ~10 minute segments
4. Sync video/screen recording, cut out pauses, fix volume, add effects
5. Make professional thumbnail
6. Give video descriptive title that includes keywords users are looking for
7. Upload!

I will either instal MS Windows on a separate drive just for that or find options for linux which I feel could be limited

Yeah dual booting is never a bad option. I would not worry about making videos to perfect to start out with so you will probably be fine with the Linux video editing options when you're getting into it.

If you plan your video in advance (i.e. the code you are going to program or present) when you do «errors/mistakes» and get stuck then figure out the solution ... is it something that has happened in the planning phase and you keep it for its instructional value or is it something you catch on the fly while recording the actual tutorial??

it's a bit of both! If I got stuck somewhere along the way in the planning phase I might keep the solution that I found in the video for instructional value and then sometimes I run into a new error during the filming of the video I find a solution/debug it on the fly. I would say it's like a 50/50 split.

My approach to tags is to list the terms & phrases I think people might search up when looking for a video like mine. I always use up the 500 character limit when creating tags.

I want to be a RU-vidr since so long... over the years I equipped myself with best products known for that task and I am still incapable to make it a passion and publish my video... Now that I am on Linux I can’t even use after effects or Premiere Pro ...

I wouldn't worry about not being able to use After Effects or Premiere Pro when you're starting out. Even on linux you can find ways to edit your videos. I would just focus on just trying to publish something. It might not get many views or be the highest quality, but just uploading is the start to building a channel. Each video you post try to make a little better than your last. Try to find a way to provide value to your audience. You got this!

What do you guys think of a tutorial of just the screen and not my face ? Also about a micro tutorial ? Like 2-5 minutes in length. I'm trying to land my first job in data analysis and I'd like to turn around some videos quickly to get my name out there and not take time away from job searching/studying
