Yes it still works and you can use an axe by replacing "diamond_sword" with "diamond_axe" or any axe that you desire

Unfortunately, no. Since this command block creation detects the durability of the item so any item that does not have any durabiliy or going into creative mode will render the commands useless

@Eurostarguy373 Bruh just do the commands in creative and switch into survival when you're going to test/use the commands

Just remove the command that gives you back the sword It's Command #3
