(I have a great relationship with my son as well) The folding over of the lighting strip and tacking it together is so logic. I would suggest maybe next time to fold the lights together like an accordian first before folding it in half to get lights on both side. By doing this you eliminate the spacing between the lights and end up with more lights. This gives you a brighter much fuller blade and you cant see the individual lights.

I'm currently modeling up my own in fusion 360. I was going to use a 12v 2ah lithium ion battery from milwaukee's m12 series but do to complications due to my modeling skills I'll be using a custom built lithium battery pack. I am also using a single 9w total rgb led with some "fogged" tubing for the blade. Also have a button to start the blade with a knob built in to adjust color and 2 more for the other colors. I'll be using an arduino to control the colors. The 12v battery will be used to power the arduino and provide enough current to drive the led's as the arduino can only deliver 40ma and each color on the led requires about a little over 1a to power it. End goal is to create a lightsaber that can extend when the button is pressed but I'll work on that bit after I get the handle and basic blade made first.

Have you considered trying to make a baselit saber? The LED strip through the blade usually makes it look nicer, but if there's a single LED lens in the hilt, it makes it MUCH harder to accidentally damage the light if you plan on smacking sabers around with friends. Still, really cool.

@MegtoothSithSabers
@MegtoothSithSabers 4 года назад
Gene, this was great! The only thing to make it maybe even better, and to reduce the pixilation is to use 144/meter strips. The strips you used the pixels were too far apart. When you use the 144/meter, the pixels are closer together, and you don't get as much spottiness. The lights actually cover any shadows over the short distances between the pixels. IF that makes sense? Where did you get the "shark bite"? What is it? I need to try that in my blades. PS, I also use clear 1/2 inch shrink over my strips and then wrap with cellophane, and then into the foam, and then into the polycarbonate. For DIY with stuff around the house, this was awesome though!!!!!!

Any way to incorporate sound at some point to the sabers? Great job though! I'm seriously considering building one!

Love the videos, but could you please make one without power tools and with everyday objects? Just something to think about

Ive been wanting to make the sword of light from slayers however the fact it has a more medevial sword blade shape hinders the blade options any ideas for things beyond light sticks?

Actually made me happy to see. My hands also shake and it's great to see someone who can do machining and soldering without it affecting the finished product.

@@DIYGene thanks for replying, i wanted to consult something with you. I haven't found any polycarbonate tube in my country, but i found one made of acrylic, do you think it could work? would it be impact resistant?

Agustin Camarero, I think it could work but I would be hesitant to battle with it.
