I made a log lift for my splitter and didn't have the time to do all hydraulic, so , I used a cheap winch , my splitter is heavy and I've used it to pull out bushes as well , there's a short video of my splitter on my channel , good job , they are a huge back saver .cheers .

Just found your video!! I would say it’s the simplest one I’ve seen that works just fine! Sometimes the more complicated ones and more expensive doesn’t really matter! Still does the same thing- lifts the log to be split! Love your use of material that you already had and repurposed a great lift for your splitter! 👍🏻🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Man thanks for posting was gonna do a hydraulic lift version but this idea is way cheaper and easier to do. Don’t like the vertical log splitters because you’re bending to split the logs. You’re way bend once then split standing at the table. My back thanks you and thanks again for posting this idea! You rock....

Looks like a good idea. I never liked the splitters where the wedge moved because you have to handle every piece of wood after it's split. The type where the log is pushed through you can just let the next block push the split wood.
@craigschiller1599
@craigschiller1599 3 года назад
Likewise. I'm building one where a pusher block pushes log through wedge. Got me stuffed why they dont build them like that to begin with.
@benfarnham7626
@benfarnham7626 2 года назад
Then it would push them off onto the ground and you’d have to pick them up to split them again. Unless all you use is tiny wood that only needs split once.

I like the concept Marty and it looks like it works well, only caveat I see is that you need to have the splitter hooked up to an ATV or tractor to keep it from falling over as the weight of the unsplit rounds would tip it I suspect.

If you put another pulley wheel below the top one & run the lift chain parallel and along side the frame rail you wouldn't need to un-hitch it.

If you changed the shape of the splitting tool - to an "X" or a "Y" perhaps - wouldn't that improve splitting time? Perhaps a choice of splitter shapes depending on the size of the round to be split? Depends on the strength of the ram I suppose but splitting rounds into 4 parts in one go seems like a time saver to me.
