This is a tutorial showing you how to make a logo or a profile picture for iFunny using Gimp 2.8.
You will need the Script-Fu Extension to make this.
IF THE LAYERS TAB (THE RIGHT ONE) IS MISSING FOR YOU, GO TO THE "WINDOWS" OPTION UP TOP AND CLICK "RECENTLY CLOSED"

3:52 A new layer is added immediately on top of whichever layer is clicked. So, clicking the background and then "New Layer..." would have obviated the need to reorder the layers. Many thanks for this cool logo tutorial, though. Thumbs up from me for sure!

I found the video helpful. Here are a few bits of constructive criticsm, though: 1. The video should have been titled "How to Make a Logo in Gimp 2.8 with Script Foo", as it's a requirement for your method. 2. Try to use the correct terms for the various tools and interface elements you are using. If you're going to teach, then teach correct. 3. Settle down. There were a few points where you just started clicking things like crazy, forcing me to rewind and watch again. Thanks for the video.

This is the second GIMP tutorial I've viewed on RU-vid, where the gradient tool is called the blend tool. I'm using GIMP 2.10.2. Did the name change?

Hamza Hathoute I meant if the gradient tool used to be named the blend tool in earlier versions of GIMP. I keep seeing tutorials calling it the blend tool. I know they mean the gradient tool when they say "blend tool", but some people who are not aware it's the same tool may get confused.

If anyone is missing the layers tab or window (the one on the right), go to Windows and then click Recently Closed.

If you "unsee" the Layer copy, it turns the inner and outer circle into black. I did this while just messing around and I think it looks cool.

on the step at 3:05 my circle cuts but is grey not white, what is going wrong?

when i try to press control and drag down the circle automatically fills up. and when i press select none everything turns grey, the circle disappears

I had the same problem. Not sure why this worked, but I literally just hit enter on my keyboard after filling the circle, and then clicked on any other item in the tool box like "Text" or the "move" tool for example, and then hit select>none. It de-selected the circle and left it filled, without filling in the entire canvas.

7:30 Only after exporting to JPG did I realize that the shadow around the perimeter of the image was cropped on its four sides. So, I had to expand the canvas to 1100 x 1100 pixels, delete Layer 2 (the shadow layer), rename "Layer 2 copy" just "Layer 2", expand the layer to the new boundaries (Layer > Layer to image size) and then do over the shadow creation procedure!

I realize you made this video a long, long time ago and several versions of GIMP have come to pass. However, I liked the result and copied it in the current version of GIMP. My problem is the last "text enhancement" or two you ended up dragging a gradient across the screen in two directions and it leaves an overlap of dark and light where the gradients start and finish. Is there a way to eliminate the overlap or a way to hide the distinct line the process leaves?

I'm trying to do Something similar but for the text Im doing a simple MD but I would like the MD to contour with the shape of the circle. So the MD would shaped circularly. If you get what I'm saying. Any ideas?

Does it matter if Layer Effects is under the Layer, instead of Script Fu? For some reason my bevel and Emboss does nothing to the logo, it starts to load the fg color layers side by side then just turns transparent. Btw I'm using new version of Gimp

Accidentally closed the side tools, now when i try to open the toolbox on the left, and then drop the dockable dialog tool options into it, it won't go and they are two separate boxes. What am I doing wrong?

Being new to Gimp you didn't show how to get your Toolbox tool option menu up on the left. Small point but as a result some people cant do the rest of the video. You may have many more that watch the video all the way if you did that.

Go onto GIMP. Then go to Windows(where file and edit are) then select toolbox and choose layers brushes. Then go to Dockable dialogs and click tool options.
