I recently found some of your videos and subscribed. I've been trying to do some research on how to make cologne. I'm confused about what to add the oils to. I bought everclear because that's what seems to be a popular choice for the alcohol. But I'm not sure if I should add water or carrier oil or go with just alcohol. Everybody says something different do I don't know what the best method is. Also, I don't know how many drops of oil to use to make a cologne or toilette. I bought 2oz spray bottles to experiment with. What do you recommend? I hope you are able to help me. Thank you.
@DenverDave
@DenverDave 5 лет назад
Perfumers Alcohol is best but everclear will work until you can get some. Cologne is between 5-8% that is the formula you make.

@@DenverDave Thank you. I actually made two colognes over the weekend. One smells more like perfume so I'm going to work on it and try to make it more for women. Lol. I just used everclear and essential oils. Nothing else. Should I halve added anything else to it? Also I don't think they are very strong. I used about 75 drops of essential oil in each 2oz bottle. I dont have a scale so I don't know the percentage. Does that sound right to you? I want to make something that will last at least 6 hours after spraying but I can't even smell them while wearing them like the colognes I buy.

@@ToxikPizza you can use some vetiver or/and...sandalwood, patchouli, frankincense, myrrh, ho wood, geranium rose, etc. These can help. Dave

Sir, out of the topic of the video i would like to know your opinion on cade oil as a substitute for birch tar oil, is it less smoky? Would be better for a more modern, kind of realistic leather? How could one create a russian leather with old, aged, animalic sweat - on leather facets? Greetings

Do you age the blend 1st and then add it to a carrier oil (then age that)? Can you instantly add to a carrier, then age it together? Or do you add oils to a perfumer's alcohol, to bring it up to volume? I hear some who use only oils; then some who use Perfumer's Alcohol too. Thank you
@DenverDave
@DenverDave 6 лет назад
I age only the UNDILUTED formula. I use perfumers alcohol. IPM is another kind that can be used or a blend of the two. I ONLY use oil as a carrier for roll-on perfume. When making a spray fragrance I NEVER use a carrier oil. Thanks for asking!!! Dave

Is that oil for jus a roll on or u will add jus perfumer alcohol or more other kinds of alcohol n ingredients into complete perfume?
@DenverDave
@DenverDave 4 года назад
The cool thing is, you can do either. You can make it a roll-on or add perfumers alcohol. Both are complete fragrances.

I’m not a big fan of the animalic side of the atlas cedar
@DenverDave
@DenverDave 2 года назад
If you have a atlas Cedarwood, one way to make it smoother is to age it. It is one of the materials that you can age. I am aging some that is now about four years old but I am not going to use it until year 10. It is for the exact reason that you stated that I am aging this material. I find it a little harsh and only use it in very minute amounts. Dave

What you said about cedars is the opposite of true. True cedars are of the genus Cedrus. Atlas cedar (C. atlantica) is a true cedar. Junipers and thujas are also called cedars but are not true cedars. I think people in North America get this confused because we don't have true cedars; they're native to parts of Asia, the Mediterranean, and North Africa.
@DenverDave

Your are right, VA and TX cedarwoods are in the Juniper family. Thank you for being here!!! Dave
