This furnace has held up very well after using it well over 100 times to melt mostly bronze. I would recommend coating the walls with satanite first and then applying the ITC100.

Thank you for making this video! I have almost everything I need to start mine. I may have missed it, did you tell us where you got your Crucible?

I'm currently building a keg foundry based on this. I'm going to use fumed silica to rigidize the blanket and apply a coat of satanite on top for good measure. I'm super excited. I should have a video posted this weekend.

Will you please explain the burner placement a bit more? Your plinth height, Location of thr burner hole, angle of the burner inside the furnace etc?

Very cool furnace ! Thanks for sharing the build this will probably be the design i use. Peace people

Nice build Seth, I have a tendency to overbuild sometime, just wondering why you didn't use water glass for your rigidizer & binder and satinite to protect the inswool. but 25 minutes to full heat, that's respectable great editing and narration.

terranceway Thank you! I was advised that only the ITC would be sufficient. Although it was quite tough I decided to coat the ITC with Satanite and then re-coat with ITC. I would recommend doing what you mention. A rigidizer isn’t really necessary in my opinion, but it won’t hurt. I found that satanite sticks well to slightly damp wool.

Great video! The problem that I am running into is my propane tank freezing over. I’m still really new to this so I could be doing something wrong

Thank you! Although I haven't experienced it, I have heard of tanks freezing. You can do a few things: Place the tank in warm water, use a larger tank or cut down the amount of time you use the tank. You could also just buy another normal size tank and swap them out. Warm water is supposed to really help.

Seth Robinson oh thank you! Good ideas. I’ll try the hot water today maybe. I also just read using an electric blanket can work

I watched both parts, yes I did start with the King of random plaster of paris foundry!this one is far far better looking! I'm picking up my keg this weekend.how has the Ceramic insulator (Kaowool) held up? have you had to change it out yet?
@robinson-foundry
@robinson-foundry 6 лет назад
Thank you! Yes, it has held up well. So far I havent had any problems with my furnace. Good luck with your build!

I've seen a RU-vid video in which they used an empty propane cylinder for the furnace, and a weed torch for the flame tip. However, they also mixed oxygen into the pre-combustion propane gas to raise the temperature. What is your opinion of mixing oxygen with the gas? What metals do you melt?

Question for you? For most of the furnace builds I see, there is an outer cylinder (keg/garbage can/shopvac container/etc.). Then the insulation. Would fabricating an inner liner that completely incapsulates the insulation work or help the cause? I am thinking of something like a cylinder within a cylinder (and the insulation in between).

For the furnace, instead of using nuts and bolts could you use the coating as a glue?
@robinson-foundry
@robinson-foundry 6 лет назад
DigitalDuckster I doubt it. The insulation has to be held in place very securely.

Seth Robinson btw how much rigidizer did you end up using?
@robinson-foundry
@robinson-foundry 6 лет назад
DigitalDuckster no problem, I used about 3/5 of a pint.

Seth Robinson you see I thought 20 lbs of satanite was too much lol I’m probably gonna use it for a forge too though
