My mom was a seamstress by trade who made mostly bridal dresses for people. When she passed, there were many patterns (50 years of them!) leftover that I found. Most of them we had to throw out since we were in the process of selling her house and we were downgrading to a smaller house and really didn't have the room for them. I did keep a few of my favorite patterns - why don't know because I wasn't a scrapper then. Coincidently I was in the process of cleaning up the other day (again!!) and was about to throw them out but changed my mind. So glad I did, because now I can make a sewing/memory journal. In addition, I still have some of the old thread she used, lace that she had in her store, zippers, buttons and other things that are now considered vintage that I can add in the journal. A truly authentic vintage journal with no digis needed for sure I had kept my favorite pattern outfits and hopefully will find the pictures of me modeling them!! Looking forward to seeing your process.....thank you!!!
I really hope you choose to continue the process on video. I got so excited when I saw the picture and description of what you were doing! I have a whole bunch of old patterns I bought at a thrift store last year so I will be using what I see you do to finally attempt something myself! 😊😊😊
This is going to be such a cute little pattern journal. Yes, please continue the videos relating to your process. You explain things better than ANYONE! A super thanks for sharing your creative ideas. ❤❤❤
I love the idea of the sewing journal. There are a lot of people that would love one as a gifts. I can think of several right now. Please continue with this series! ❤
Thank you so much Cathy, I really really enjoyed watching you create this cute and beautiful journal. Great job. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags. I would definitely like to see more of this type of thing. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
It is fun to watch you process ideas. Please do keep showing how you work through this project. My mom sewed most of our clothes. It would be fun to make a sewing journal, a sweet way to remember her.
I love this Cathy! Quote: "Stay positive. The only difference between a good day and a bad day is your attitude.” -Dennis S. Brown. Could you also do one that doesn't fold to the side but make it on the pattern envelope with the ladies entirely on the front? Huge hugs. Namaste 🐞🐞🐞
Fabulous! 🤩 This is the best little junk journal I’ve seen using these patterns. I absolutely love it! I do hope you continue with this adorable journal. Because I’m going to pull out my old sewing patterns. Absolutely fantastic inspiration! Hugs 🤗❤️
Just love old patterns, that fabric is so pretty, I sew quilts and have heaps of materials. Loved watching this process. Can't wait to see the next step. x
This is really fun. I’m so glad that you are doing a junky journal because I don’t have a color printer and cannot print the digitals. That means that I have to come up with other ways to decorate my journal and ephemera. I’m excited to see what else you do. Gayle
I really love this journal idea I have made a few myself and enjoyed the proces. I like journal making with no digital prints as I have no way to do that and find it too expensive. Please keep sharing projects that require no digitals. :)
I could watch you for hours! I've said it before - I have learned SO much from you! I have most of the items you use and i LOVE 1924 Linens and More! They have a HUGE selection and it's well priced. I'm enjoying this project and would love to watch you finish it! 💖 Thank you Cathy! 💕
I really appreciate watching you do all of this from “scratch”. Seeing and hearing the process and thoughts going into this make much sense to being creative. Wow. Thank you!! I like that you ironed the packaging and contents. And those waxed pattern pieces, really very unique and … fancy. I almost forgot about the beginning of the video there having gotten so wrapped up in the mini- journal creation and repair. I would never have thought about lace and the embroidery piece as you have. I was hoping you’d make the rectangle of the flap edged all the way around in the lace! Yay!! I have a number of old patterns including various patterns my mother made (literally). You should see what she did with her abilities to sew etc. she was very talented. I also have her tole painting, various quilt and doll patterns. I think about doing something with them but am often unsure how to or if I truly want to do something with them. Meanwhile … they’re boxed in a closet. I have a bunch of appliqué swatches she created herself. They were once in a steno notebook from 1959 probably. I spent hours looking through them while she cut and sewed patterns. Before I knew about junk journaling I put the appliqué pieces in a homemade booklet. I do have pictures of these things and posted them on my blog which is no longer public. Maybe I should clean the blog up so people might appreciate these things. I realize I went way into other things. Thinking and writing about crafts has been easier for me than doing many of them! But what you have done here is very encouraging to give this a good try. Thank you! Can’t wait for the rest of the video(s). ❤ glad you sound much better. Hope you are feeling as good as if better than you sound❣️
Love this! I've been saving things to make a sewing journal in memory of my Nana who was an amazing seamstress!🪡🧵👗 I have old patterns too that I plan to use for pages and ephemera! The lil textile sample cards you made are perfect for this journal! tfs hugs ❤
Great idea. When watching videos for inspiration & I hear the words "I'm using Tim Holtz..... I immediately click off & go somewhere else. I cannot afford Tim Holtz & lots of die cuts or digital kits. I want real honest to Pete creativity.
No, I made that bag first when I was trying to decide what I was going to make. However in tomorrow’s video I measured the completed bag, it might go t help you. 🥰💐
There’s a woman on RU-vid who lives life in the mid-50’s. I hope she doesn’t watch this. I’d hate to see a grown woman cry. She makes all her own clothes and does a fabulous job!
