How about converting the flash into infrared lighting?
@kobienel6085
@kobienel6085 8 лет назад
Now you got yourself a "all light" camera. You can play around by taking pictures in sunlight, with different external filters, like UV and even filters that will only allow IR or UV through. You can get some crazy effects with that.

Great stash! I really appreciate you showing us how easy it really is to have night vision for only a few bucks. Now I've had night vision products over the years since about 2005. And I have tried a few different setups. Now with that said , please people be careful. Night vision is not all that it seems. As soon as you turn it on you give away position. You light up like a Christmas tree and you just turned on a very powerful flashlight and anyone else with NV will see you coming a kilometer away. You need a passive way to see in the dark. Thermal binoculars give off no infrared light and they operate on the principle of temperature. Anything that radiates any type of thermal signature can be passively monitored. You can see them long before they see you. When I go out at night to practice locating a target I use a small unidirectional and a homemade parabolic microphones. Sound is very tricky at night especially around heavy rock and water. By practising a little it won't take long for you to become highly proficient at night time range finding and location. That's how I do it and keeping my couple of friends sharp so when the time comes they too can protect their families and get the hell out of Dodge before the whole shithouse goes up in flames. Cry Freedom!

Bit of a misleading title as this is Infrared and not true night vision. Night vision uses the available light, what little there is in any given area, and amplifies it. Infrared relies on waves that are emitted by anything that emits a heat signature. Still a very useful video. Thumbs up.

***** Dukes. They're meant to be put up.
@mrdojob

It's not really night vision or thermal imaging. It's more like a flashlight that uses infrared LED's. It's still bathing the area in light but just outside of the spectrum that our eyes can see which personally I find useless. Don't get me wrong this can be a fun gadget and useful for some but when I search for "homemade night vision" or "homemade thermal imaging" it only comes up with Infrared flashlights that I find both misleading and very disappointing.

So I just tried this with our Nikon Coolpix S3600. It was very simple to take apart, didn't even need to unhook the cable ribbons. It still seems to work fine and can see the infrared lights now. Only took me about 20 minutes. Our is only a 720p camera but it will work fine for us. Thanks so much for posting this!! Now to make or buy an infrared flashlight.

I've done this with a few cameras now to convert them to infrared camers and the glass you're removing is an infrared pass filter, so if you replace this glass with an infrared filter you then have a camera that will do infrared.
@jayryan7473
@jayryan7473 8 лет назад
Tip: Some smart phones don't have an IR filter. Another idea for IR light is a black reptile heat bulb. Not the most ideal light source but it does work.

very interesting, went right over my head, you lost me at , unscrew back, but enjoyed it. They investigate old houses, and scream alot, its a reality show, not a drama.

Just at the end when your wife asked if you needed the lights to make it night visiable, you said yes but thats not true-ish, it should still pick up any IR emitting object, like a BODY! I was hoping you'd point it at either of your faces, would love to have seen how well it would work like that. Very Cool, I did not know those cameras has an IR filter, gonna dig up an old one and try your experiment!

You know, the type that shows up aminals from therr body heat? Of coarse, a camera that did both would be best of boast wolds, but probalby would no be a cheep DIY.
