Calculation of Length of the Paracord 550 Ring Core: If you plan to make a ring for someone who is not present but has supplied you with their ring size you can look up the circumference and diameter from an on-line ring size table. But you need to add additional length to the 550 core to account for its thickness and the thickness of the microcord that will be wound around it . The thickness of a 550 paracord is 4 mm and the thickness of the micro cord will be 2 mm (1 on each side of the core). The additional combined length of the 550 core will then be (4 mm + 2 mm) x Pi = 18.8 mm. So you need to add 18.8 mm to the ring internal circumference (from the ring size table or measurement of the finger) . So for example my daughter's ring size is #6. The Ring Size table shows that the size 6 ring circumference is 51.7 mm. To prepare the 550 core for her ring you would need to measure a flat length of 51.7 mm + 18.8 mm = 70.5 mm. The only last input is that each of us has a different method and tools to melt together the ends of the 550 core to form a ring. A bit of experimentation may be required but I would suggest adding an additional 5 mm to the calculated length in order to allow for material loss in the melting process. Cheers, Murray

Awesome work, Tim, and an great video tutorial. This design is way better than the one I used with micro cord core for a number of reasons. On a side note, I noticed you were using the PT-200 Iroda Micro Torch. I suggest that you check out the Iroda PT-220 and the PT-230. In addition to the normal Butane flow adjustments these two torches have air flow control valves which give the user a much broader control range, equivalent to flame size and temperature reduction. They are fantastic for sealing paracord ends with fine precision and for attaching pieces of paracord together with little loss and no blobs of melted nylon. Cheers, Murray

Would paracord insides/guts work as micro cord if i don't have any on me at the moment?

Love to see if you could make it possible to insert a small NFC chip inside. Size of a Payment card chip. I could then always carry a payment option with me without a phone or a wallet. Size is roughly the same as the gold coloured contacts on our cards. They are thin, but can be easily glued on a piece of carbon fiber for rigidity. As I see now, there should be room below the outer layer.
